The AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) Organization is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join Routing, Performance and Design Engineering team under Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) Org. Network Development Engineers partner with our broader Infrastructure organization on configurations standards and tools, and collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software tools.
The Routing, Performance and Design Engineering team is responsible for setting the routing and topology requirements for one of the world's largest backbone networks. This team develops innovative routing and topology designs starting with the needs of our customers. The team owns tracking design performance, ensuring it meets customer expectations, and continuously works on optimizations for the network on behalf of customers.
Key job responsibilities
Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Create and implement changes on the network.
- Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.
- Lead network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimization.
- Sustain Amazon Web Services' next generation networks for significant AWS customers by providing critical network support to diagnose, mitigate impact, and resolve large-scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools.
- Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border and everything in between.
- Partner with our broader Network/Infrastructure organization in the areas of network engineering, configurations standards, and tools.
- Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.
- Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
- Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Collaborate with highest tier escalation engineers/resolvers.
- Create and review documentation and process regarding network. implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.

Engineers in the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization have a wide range
of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next gen platforms
along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability
through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our
network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale allowing our engineers to
develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage durable solutions that
look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and
reliability perspective. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of
traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers during events.
- Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments.
- 4+ years experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems.
- 4+ years experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.
- 1+ year of experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS, etc.

Basic Qualifications

- Management of Geotechnical Design packages for Data Centre Campuses, HV/MV Substation and Grid Connection projects;
- Create, review and release RFP's for external design consultants
- Work within a multidisciplinary design team on developing site layouts during data centre masterplanning design;
- Manage our external CSA Design Consultants through the Design & Construction Administration phases of projects;
- During the Design Phase, act as the Owners Representative ensuring timely delivery, within budget and to the required quality level. Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in power system analysis and design
- Proficiency in using power system analysis software, such as ETAP, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD.
- Experience with transmission and distribution systems, generation, renewable energy and energy storage systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with a recognized body
- Experience in substation design and protection system coordination
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration and distributed generation technologies
- 3 years of experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design.
- Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python or MATLAB, for custom software development.

We're hiring for an experienced Power Systems Engineer to play a critical role in designing and modeling electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting technical analyses, modeling power system performance, and providing recommendations to optimize the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our power systems.

You will be involved from the early planning (per-design) stages to develop, review, improve and approve power architecture typologies and you will be leading the development of protection coordination studies during the execution phases.

Key job responsibilities
- Perform detailed power system studies, including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, and transient stability analysis, using advanced software tools
- Develop and maintain accurate models of the electrical transmission and distribution network, incorporating the latest system changes and upgrades
- Analyze system performance data to identify potential issues and bottlenecks, and propose solutions to improve system reliability and capacity
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including substation design, operations, and planning, to ensure seamless integration of power system enhancements
- Overseeing third-party vendors to ensure quality and integration of power system studies into main projects.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact power system design and operation
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior members of the team
- Participate in the development of technical standards, policies, and procedures for the organization
