The Role
As an Environmental Compliance Officer, you'll play a vital role in
enforcing waste legislation
and
investigating illegal activity
. This role is both investigative and operational, with no two days alike. From carrying out inspections and audits to conducting surveillance and presenting evidence in court, you'll be at the forefront of protecting the environment and ensuring compliance.
You'll work closely with enforcement partners, including Local Authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency, An Garda Síochána, and Customs & Revenue Service, helping to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and report on illegal waste activity.

- A degree in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent NVQ Level 8 qualification).
- At least 3+ years' relevant professional experience (waste management, investigations, enforcement, or compliance).
- A full, clean driver's licence (Category B minimum).
- Strong analytical, organisational, and reporting skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

- Managing the Environmental Monitoring Contractor, scheduling all sites monitoring in accordance with Licence/Permit requirements, analysing report results to comply with Environmental Limit Values (ELV), communicating with facility managers and arranging collection/testing when necessary;
- Facilitating Site Inspections by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and Local Authorities
- Managing all sites on the EPA Web Portal (EDEN) and
- Liaising with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Local Authorities;

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Appropriate Assessments, Planning Applications, and other environmental reports.
- Prepare discharge licence and waste permit applications.
- Provide technical expertise to the consultancy and clients.
- Build strong client relationships, manage projects, and promote services.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and deliver solutions to complex environmental challenges.
- Coordinate project teams when required, ensuring work is delivered on time and to a high standard.
- Actively contribute to the Environmental Team, sharing knowledge and helping grow the organisation.
What We're Looking For
- B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in an environmental discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in environmental consultancy or similar roles.
- Proven experience in EIA, Appropriate Assessment, and environmental project management.
- Knowledge of environmental, planning, and waste management legislation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong team player who is self-motivated and solution driven.
- Flexible and willing to learn new skills across environmental consultancy disciplines.
