Full Job Description

The Skerries Community Association CLG (SCA) is an umbrella group comprising of a governing body (the Board of Directors) and many committees, made up of several hundred volunteers, devoted to making the quality of life in Skerries even better. The Association is a not-for-profit entity, currently working towards Charity Status.

The SCA is responsible for the oversight and support of the Board of Management of Skerries Community Centre, and the committees of Tidy Towns, Town Twinning, Skerries Cycling Initiative, Sustainable Skerries, Age Friendly Skerries , Skerries Autism Friendly Town and Skerries Sustainable Energy Community Initiative. The Board of Directors, in addition to supporting all the wonderful work of the committees, is responsible for the financial reporting, governance and strategy of the organisation.

About the Volunteering Opportunity

The Board of Directors wishes to fill a board vacancy and has identified a critical gap in the team for a communications expert. The proposed Director will be an active member of the Board of Directors, meeting monthly to discuss governance, finances and committee updates. In addition, they will be responsible for the communications of the Board, both internally with committee members and volunteers and externally with the community of Skerries to ensure all the great work of the Association is shared. This is a voluntary position.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure that the SCA is complying with its governing documents and The Charity Regulator’s governance code;
  • Ensure the SCA assets are being managed efficiently and properly;
  • Provide strategic leadership to the SCA;
  • Uphold and work towards achieving the vision, mission, values and objectives of the Association;
  • Create and maintain the Communications Strategy of the Association, using social media, the website, local news outlets and visuals.

What we are looking for

  • A resident in the electoral area of Skerries and Holmpatrick and over 18;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills;
  • Strong knowledge of the community of Skerries;
  • Experience setting up and running websites and social media;
  • Commitment to making Skerries an even better place for those who live, work and visit here.

Time requirement (this is an approximation)

  • Preparation for and attending the monthly Board meetings in Skerries Community Centre (1hr Prep, 2 hour meeting);
  • Ad hoc Board level support via email and WhatsApp (1hr per month);
  • Managing the communications of the organisation (4-6 hours per month).
