Job Description

To drive technical development and productivity improvements in the lab, with a specific focus on Organic Chemistry. Develop documentation and systems, complete validations and obtain accreditation, provide technical support and training as required to colleagues in the team. To provide technical leadership to ensure both Eurofins business objectives and Customer requirements are consistently delivered.

REPORTING TO: Laboratory Manager/Team Leader

Qualifications
  • Significant experience in a UKAS 17025 Laboratory working with GC – MS/ GC – FID, GC MS/MS and LC MS/MM– will have extensive maintenance and troubleshooting experience on minimum of one above listed technique.
  • Experience in method development, method optimisation and validation.
  • Able to research and advise on emerging technologies, method improvements, automation and emerging contaminants.
  • Able to develop any new and diverse organic analytical techniques as required by the customer and business (mainly GC – MS and LC-MS based)
  • Able to demonstrate technical knowledge to supervise and lead others through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Proven track record of training, knowledge sharing in respected scientific techniques within commercial set-up.
  • 5 years minimum experience working with GC and LC instruments.
  • Able to investigate complex investigations related to performance of the methods, implement change improvements and preventative measures.
  • Quality: ensure that quality systems are fit for purpose, including improving documentation, processes, training.
  • Scientific Degree in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

This is a production focused role intended to be doing daily testing, maintaining TAT, improving performance in both production and quality.

General responsibilities:

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure laboratory is operated in a safe manner in accordance with Eurofins H&S system requirements.
  • Assist with thorough contract review of all work received to ensure customer requirements are understood and achieved.
  • Drive performance efficiencies to deliver continuous improvement in various operational and customer KPIs including.
  • Assist with daily planning of Department’s workload to ensure customer deadlines are met and continually improve TATs.
  • Coordinating the Equipment Calibration schedules liaising with the individual departments and external suppliers.
  • Co-ordinating participation in External Proficiency schemes, to ensure that the scope of accreditation is effectively covered across all testing disciplines.
  • Perform testing as required to ensure customer and operational needs are met.
  • Provide supervision, training and guidance to staff as required. Participate in training programmes, undergo further training as required and participate in schemes to ensure on-going competence and development of skills.
  • Ensuring that Customer Instructions are complied with and that correct and appropriate methodology is used at all times.
  • Ensure that laboratory resources – equipment, materials and staff – are properly used at all times.
  • Ensure samples are received into the laboratory in accordance with documented procedures including attention to temperature control, storage, preservation and prevention of cross-contamination (where relevant).
  • To uphold and maintain company and customer confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and systematic records in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Possess good working knowledge of relevant documents within the Quality System including Test Methods, Quality Manual, methods and client specific standards or specifications (where relevant).
  • Proactively support maintenance of QC systems and method validations to meet INAB/ISO17025 and customer requirements.
  • Proactively investigate any faults or problems and, if not resolved, report findings to Management without delay.
  • Support as required the timely investigation of customer complaints, queries and other sources of non-conforming work
  • Ensuring that excellent standards of housekeeping and hygiene are maintained at all times according to stipulated procedures.
  • Uphold client confidence in the accuracy and response times of testing.
