About the job

We are the Irish based EU Research Engineering team, and we research and build services that land in open source communities for eventual integration in our product lines. The services we create help us knit together Red Hat’s strategy and advance our understanding and knowledge of future facing technologies. This greatly benefits the communities we base our projects in, which in turn helps Red Hat build better products the open source way. That’s where you come in.

We want a passionate research oriented developer to help our team discover, develop, deploy, and integrate these services. You’ll work with colleagues around the globe every day and directly in the communities they serve. You’ll share what you know and learn with the team and the community at large.

This is a project based in Ireland and we are looking for colleagues to join us in the Waterford office on a fixed-term 2-year contract.

What you will do
  • Contribute to cutting edge projects such as INCODE , CODECO , AC3
  • Research, develop, architect, integrate, and deploy services in multiple programming languages
  • Stay in tune with important open source projects and technological advances that solve problems in our technology areas, and work with teammates to evaluate them for use
  • Use a comprehensive, standard set of tools -- git repositories, Ansible playbooks, email, and issue tracking -- to collaborate and communicate with your teammates and the community
  • Build community around team projects by constantly encouraging contribution and mentoring others
  • Submit to and present on your work at community conferences occasionally to raise visibility of our work and promote our open source way
What you will bring
  • Demonstrable high level language experience such as Python, Java, Golang or JavaScript
  • Knowledge of DevOps concepts and practices
  • Experience with standard team collaboration tools like Git and issue tracking
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation (we like Ansible!)
  • Hands-on experience with building CI/CD automation
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot not just your own code but others
  • Comfortable working on your own in a self directed manner with a high degree of uncertainty due to working on cutting edge research

The following is considered a plus:

  • Familiarity with developing in a containerised environment
  • Familiarity with Red Hat products such as OpenShift, Ansible and our Middleware stack
  • Experience of working in an Open Source project is helpful
