GEA Refrigeration Ireland Limited, a market leader in industrial heating and refrigeration solutions for various sectors, is seeking a Trainee Technical Sales Engineer. About the Role:

Looking to kick-start a career in technical sales? This is an exciting opportunity to work with our seasoned Sales Managers and Service Team to support existing clients and cultivate new business prospects in Ireland. We mainly work with end-users and consultants and this position reports to the Senior Director Representative Refrigeration Division Ireland.

As a Trainee Technical Sales Engineer, you will be immersed in industrial refrigeration and heat pump applications which covers all facets of engineering including electrical, mechanical, process and more. While prior industrial refrigeration experience is preferred, we welcome candidates who may not have this background but are eager to learn and grow and are passionate about engineering, sustainability and problem solving.

Location:

You can choose to work from any of our offices throughout Ireland or from a home office, providing you with flexibility and a comfortable work environment. We have offices in Cavan, Naas and Cork.

This job requires travel throughout the country to attend site visits on average 1-2 days per week.

The first 6-9 months will require regular time in our Cavan office during onboarding and to gain familiarisation with our systems, people, technology and processes. This also allows us to give you the necessary support to begin your training journey as a technical sales engineer.

Responsibilities / Tasks

Job Overview:


In this role, you will:

  •  Learn to qualify sales opportunities

  • Attend site visits and conduct surveys of plant rooms and equipment under the guidance of our team

  •    Assist in identifying viable solutions for new and retrofit heating and cooling projects

  • Participate in heating & cooling calculations

  •  Collaborate on equipment selection using both in-house and external selection software

  •  Aide in producing preliminary layouts and P&ID drawings

  •  Attend trade fairs and conferences representing the company

  •  Coordinate with equipment suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing for projects

  • Assist in cost calculations and estimates for projects

  •  Contribute to tender preparation, including written proposals and financial aspects

  • Learn to manage and maintain our CRM Database for our live enquiries and leads

  • Support the handover of sales orders to our Engineering and Execution teams for installation

  • Engage with clients for presentations and solution discussions

  • Collaborate with Sales Management for business growth

Your Profile / Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

While industrial refrigeration experience is beneficial, candidates with the following attributes are encouraged to apply:

  • Full driving license and willingness to travel throughout Ireland

  • Third level qualification in any engineering related field

  • Minimum of 2-Years experience working in industry

  • Strong desire to learn and grow in technical sales

  • Basic understanding of engineering concepts across multiple disciplines

  • Willingness to acquire knowledge in refrigeration systems, including Heat Pumps and ammonia solutions

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills

  • Initiative, enthusiasm, and the ability to prioritise tasks for deadlines

  • Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word – key requirements include:

    • Calculations and Estimating - Excel

    • Presentations and Sketches - PowerPoint

    • Quotations and Reports - Word

    • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience carrying out site surveys, assessments or measuring and taking notes on site

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Visio to generate drawings

  • Field sales or customer service experience in any industry

  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems or heat pumps

  • Knowledge of heating systems or chill water circuits

  • Previous experience in technical sales

  • Passion for renewables, energy efficiency and sustainability
