The Role
We are seeking a curious, innovative Data Scientist / AI Engineer to join our rapidly growing Data Science team. This team pioneers AI-driven solutions spanning advanced algorithms, generative AI, and autonomous AI agents. Your work will enhance internal efficiencies, elevate our product and service offerings, and unlock new monetizable AI-powered capabilities for our customers.
You will collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Product Managers, and Analytics teams to design, develop, and deploy state-of-the-art AI models and agentic systems that deliver measurable business impact. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of connected intelligence in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions including advanced algorithms, generative AI models, and autonomous AI agents to solve complex business challenges and enhance customer experiences.
- Build scalable, reliable AI/ML pipelines and infrastructure in partnership with Data Engineering and Analytics teams.
- Automate end-to-end AI workflows: model training, evaluation, deployment, and continuous monitoring to ensure robustness and performance.
- Translate ambiguous, real-world problems into innovative AI-driven solutions leveraging the latest research and technologies.
- Stay at the forefront of AI advancements—experiment with emerging generative models, reinforcement learning, and agentic AI frameworks.
- Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to align AI capabilities with strategic goals and deliver actionable insights.
- Ensure all AI initiatives comply with data privacy, security, and governance standards.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of innovation, best practices, and continuous learning.
- Contribute to evolving our AI methodologies, tooling, and infrastructure to maintain a competitive edge.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in AI, data science, or machine learning engineering roles.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Snowflake) and their AI/ML services.
- Proficiency in SQL and working with large-scale data warehouses.
- Familiarity with MLOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, and monitoring.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in an agile, fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex AI concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with generative AI models (e.g., GPT, diffusion models) and AI agents (e.g., conversational agents, autonomous systems).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Background in IoT, automotive, or related industries.
- Passion for innovation and continuous learning in AI, especially in generative and agentic AI.

The scope of the team covers Pharmacy and Medical drugs claims, with the team owning
+ Tools to support PDL (Prescription Drug List) Strategy
+ Using innovative and advanced analytics to deliver insights into member use patterns and behaviour (including predictive modelling)
+ Partnering with Optum to manage generic drug pricing
+ Leverage business and data knowledge to identify opportunities for enhanced rebates, reduced trend, or improved member experience

**Responsibilities**
+ Provide leadership to the Pharmacy Data Science team, empowering the team to deliver high-quality solutions across multiple initiatives
+ Collaborate with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to design data-fueled solutions aligned with business objectives including member journey analytics, and utilisation management
+ Partner with Optum on generic drug pricing management to maximise value for UHG
+ Mentor and provide guidance to team members to ensure statistical integrity, accuracy, and adequacy across all analytics processes
+ Analyze, review, and interpret complex data to identify drivers of trends, uncover affordability opportunities, and enable the team to optimise processes and outcomes
+ Develop and influence the design of analytical tools and dashboards to monitor patterns and performance across key business metrics
+ Collaborate with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to explore business problems and design innovative solutions using data-driven approaches
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, statistics, bioinformatics, actuarial science, or similar numerical discipline
+ Leadership experience within a Data Science or Advanced Analytics environment, including oversight of teams
+ Understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, medical claims billing, and associated data environments
+ Proven ability to deliver analytics projects that provide measurable business value
+ Experience working with complex datasets, applying computational algorithms, statistical methods, and programming techniques to derive actionable insights
+ Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, or similar
+ Ability to break down complex problems, design solutions, and communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master's degree or PhD in applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, statistics, bioinformatics, actuarial science, or a related field.
+ Experience leading cross-functional teams or collaborating across departments to achieve shared goals.
