We are urgently seeking an Occupational Therapist for a hospital located in Westmeath, Ireland.
ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate patients’ functional abilities, personal activities of daily living (PADL), and cognitive status (including MMSE when appropriate).
Develop and implement individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans to promote independence, safety, and effective discharge planning.
Monitor, review, and document patient progress in line with professional and hospital documentation standards.
Assess and train patients in essential self-care tasks such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and showering, recommending assistive or adaptive devices where appropriate.
Evaluate and enhance patients’ ability to perform safe transfers and mobility; train staff and families on the correct use of hoists, slings, and mobility aids.
Assess and recommend adaptive seating, specialised equipment, and environmental modifications to promote safety, comfort, and independence.
Facilitate kitchen and domestic task assessments to promote independent living and safe use of household appliances.
Collaborate with nursing, physiotherapy, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and discharge planning; liaise with community OTs and external agencies for follow-up.
Ensure all occupational therapy interventions comply with professional and hospital standards; participate in audits, quality initiatives, and maintain patient confidentiality.
Engage in continuous professional development, attend mandatory training, and contribute to staff education on occupational therapy principles and safe patient handling.
RequirementsBachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Current registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council).
Minimum of one year’s post-qualification clinical experience in a healthcare, rehabilitation, or stepdown setting.
Demonstrated experience in functional assessment, rehabilitation planning, and the use of assistive/adaptive equipment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Sound knowledge of current evidence-based practice and relevant national standards.
Strong organisational, assessment, and documentation skills.
