Telecoms Network Engineer : Meath/Hybrid We are looking for a skilled Telecoms Network Engineer with a proven track record in designing, provisioning, and operating Operational Telecommunication Networks. Key responsibilities include: Collaborating with sales and PMO teams to deliver networks on time and within budget Providing level 2 & 3 support for client incidents and troubleshooting network performance Configuring equipment and supporting field deployments for new solutions Monitoring and reacting to client network issues within the NOC Conducting risk assessments, preventive maintenance, and creating network documentation Championing technology changes and driving innovation in service offerings Essential Experience & Skills: 5+ years of telecom experience in utility services Proficiency with Ethernet switches, routers, firewalls, and OTA devices Strong leadership skills in setting technical standards and resolving issues Experience with LAN/WAN design, VPN configuration, and firewall management Expertise in incident/change management systems and network resilience Excellent communication, time management, and team collaboration skills Qualifications: Degree in telecoms, IT, or related fields CompTIA/CCNA or equivalent certification Full clean driver's license For more details and a confidential chat, get in touch ASAP! Position Description Networks Telecoms are responsible for the design, delivery, and operation of ESB Networks National Telecommunications Infrastructure. The Telecoms Service & Deployment Teams - Central & Southeast, is responsible for the safe installation, support and maintenance of telecoms technologies such as data traffic multiplexers, microwave radio links, SCADA UHF polling radio, satellite, tele-protection schemes, IP networks, telephony services and other Telecoms equipment successful candidates will play a key role in the safe deployment, operation, maintenance and future growth of ESB's national telecommunications network. On-Call or Availability may be a feature of this role. Key Responsibilities Support and maintenance of telecoms equipment and infrastructure Co-ordination of 3rd party contractors and equipment partners. Support, maintain and fault find DC Power and UPS standby power systems. Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems. Project management support for Telecommunications projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid. Experience and Qualifications Essential Either a 3rd Level qualification (NFQ Level 6/ 7) in an electrical/ telecommunications/IT discipline or minimum of 2 years relevant work experience. Full driving licence. Safety focused approach. Strong analytical problem-solving skills. Good communication and organisational skills. Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail. Adaptability and flexibility. Desirable Health & Safety experience/qualification. Experience working on electrical systems. Experience with preparation of safety documentation. Awareness of telecommunications technologies. Project experience. Familiarity with HV environments. Location This position will be based in ESB Networks Athlone. However, a flexible reporting location could be considered within these regions. Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB. The WAN Program Delivery team are part of Networks Telecoms and are the service owner and the delivery function for a range of telecoms technologies including DWDM and PDH/SDH migrating to MPLS-TP fibre, Microwave Radio, SCADA UHF polling radio, Satellite based SCADA network, Operational IP and a future LTE network. Key Responsibilities Commissioning and support of telecommunications infrastructure and services. Diagnostics, trouble shooting and problem solving of system faults and failures Maintaining a strong safety, quality, and performance culture Promote innovation and knowledge sharing within the team Attendance on site for fault and project-based activities Assist with preparation of technical specifications, supplier tenders and work on tender evaluations. Assist with preparation of solution designs for telecommunications systems and infrastructure for subsequent deployment. Assist with preparation of project documentation, including capital approvals, customer proposals and solution designs. Preparation of health and safety documentation relevant to your work area. Management and co-ordination of various telecommunications contractors. Recording of "as built" records for deployed services and systems. Ensuring professional, timely and productive communication with all stakeholders (EirGrid, PMO, other Network and Service Deployment Teams, management, internal service providers, vendors, 3rd party suppliers) for all faults, project works and technical queries Experience and Qualifications Essential At least 5 years relevant experience Third level qualification or equivalent work experience Familiarity with Telecommunications technologies such as Optical Multiplexers, TCP/IP, PDH/SDH, DWDM and network synchronization Familiarity with radio technologies (microwave/UHF) and satellite networks. Knowledge of Internet protocol (IP) Networks Knowledge of Network Synchronization for design, implementation and support Excellent interpersonal and written skills Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Full driving license as travel to site will be a feature of this role Demonstrate a strong focus on safety in the workplace in compliance with Health & Safety rules, particularly as work may involve hazardous environments such as High Voltage substations Self-motivated and capable of working on their own initiative.
