The OHN will have day-to-day responsibility for nurse lead pre-employment medicals, health surveillance, immunisations, and health promotion initiatives. They also work collaboratively with Occupational Physicians managing pre-employment healthcare screening and fitness to work reviews. The position holder will also develop and lead a company Wellbeing Programme. This position is part-time, permanent and is based on-site at UPMC Aut Even Hospital. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Manage the occupational health service for UPMC Aut Even employees to a high professional standard using an evidence-based approach and strategic planning. Review Pre-Employment Medical Reports and liaise with occupational physicians on any follow up requirements. Carry out health assessments of employees to ascertain their fitness, advise on adaptations, identify higher risk individuals and those who will be working with occupational hazards providing a plan of care considering the individual needs and their roles and responsibilities within their roles. Provide advice and management on any adaptations that may be required based on the risk assessment provided. Identify higher risk individuals who may be more vulnerable to occupational health hazards, such as pregnant staff, and carry out risk assessment, providing recommendations incorporating legislative guidelines. Maintaining a high standard of recording of assessments and treatments including outcomes in complete confidence. Maintaining accurate departmental manual and computerized records. Purpose of Post: To embrace strategic aspects of a wider workplace health services agenda which includes healthy working lives, workplace health promotion and working health services. There is a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the OHS. Organisational/Advisory: Make workplace visits to assist in the identification and control of workplace hazards in accordance with health and safety legislation. Investigate cases of work-related illness or disease and report these to the consultant in occupational medicine or Health & Safety Officer as appropriate. Conduct occupational health surveys and research programmes. Participate on the various committees which are appropriate to staff health and wellbeing. Accept on-going responsibility for providing OH care for those employees in the allocated area. Work with the physician in occupational medicine in establishing appropriate standards of occupational health care. Ensure that procedures are in place for keeping records of all referrals to occupational health issues. Ensure professional standards in respect of confidentiality and security are observed. The Occupational Health Nurse Advisor will: Provide input into the development and evaluation of health & safety procedures, emergency procedures to ensure compliance with statutory obligations in conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer and Risk manager. Observe report and take appropriate action on matters detrimental to staff wellbeing. Assist in observing and ensuring implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection control. Ensure completion of incident / near miss forms / clinical risk reporting. Adhere to department policies for the maintenance and safety of any equipment supplied for the fulfillment of duty. General: Develop pro-active relationships with staff and CNMs to promote the role of an effective OHS. Develop and maintain effective communication with other health and safety professionals and with the Health & Safety Authority. Adhere to professional standards and guidelines set out by professional and statutory bodies relevant to the work of an OHS. Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by management. Carry out prevention strategies and management of occupational blood & bodily fluid exposure (OBEs) and provide follow up care to healthcare workers involved in such incidences. Maintain and monitor the use of Needle stick Injury Packs within all clinical Departments and provide regular training to the staff and managers on the prevention and management e.g Needle stick Injury Sharp Injures. Carry out monthly audits on the Safe Use of Sharps using the MEG Audit tool and report results to managers of relevant Departments. Maintain a data base on OBE injuries and report on same in the quarterly Health and Safety committee meetings and Annual Clinic Audit. Manage immunization programmes for staff in accordance with occupational health vaccination policies and medicinal protocols. For a full job description please email: Qualifications & Experience: Registered in the General division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). Have at least 5 years post registration experience. Have at least 2 years' experience in a management role, ideally in the speciality of occupational health. Ideally hold a recognised Occupational Health qualification or undertaking one. Professional Knowledge: Demonstrate experience of case management, or condition management programmes. Demonstrate experience in an occupational health nurse advisor role. Demonstrate knowledge of health promotion in work settings. Demonstrate knowledge of infection control issues. Demonstrate experience of manual handling risk management Demonstrate knowledge of stress management techniques. Experience of occupational health provision in healthcare setting. Promote good relationships with other key members of the clinic staff through the exercising of attitudes which convey an understanding and awareness of the wider function of the clinic.
