Academic Tutor/Learning Support Tutor - MTU Kerry Unijobs DAC are currently recruiting a number of Academic Tutors/Learning Support Tutors to engage within the Munster Technological University based on the campus in Tralee Co. Kerry V92 HD4V . We are looking for someone to commence in September and the contract will be in line with the Academic Year 2025/2026 with an intended end date of the 14th of August 2026. The hourly rate being offered is €35.00 and the total number of hours per week will be dependent on the demand from the students within the University. Person Specification Academic Tutors should have knowledge of the subject area, including module content, assessment procedures and other subject specific information. Academic Tutors should be graduates of the subject area and ideally have previous tutoring experience. Academic Tutors should be able to adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of diverse learners. Where no suitably qualified tutor to Level 8 (Honours degree) is available either through the Academic Department or through the Tutor Panel, the role of Academic Tutor may be filled by a tutor with an ordinary level primary degree. Learning Support Tutors provide individual support to students in such areas as study skills; time management; academic writing skills; exam preparation and exam performance skills. Learning Support Tutors should hold an understanding of the requirements of learning at third level and how these apply across multiple disciplines. Learning Support Tutors should demonstrate flexibility in their approach towards a diverse range of learners. Preferably Learning Support Tutors should have previous tutoring experience. The Academic Tutor and the Learning Support Tutor are required to familiarise themselves with the role outline provided in the MTU Kerry Campus, Access, and Disability Support Services "Guidelines for Tutors and Students, Additional Tuition and Academic Writing Support. Principal duties and responsibilities: The Academic Tutor will revisit course materials provided by students on a one-to-one basis, this may involve recapping of material covered in lectures. The Academic Tutor will prepare a tutorial plan after the first session and agree objectives with the student for the number of tuition hours that have been approved. The Academic Tutor will prepare for each session by engaging in appropriate research and retrieving necessary material in advance. This saves time to focus on the session's content. The Academic Tutor will discuss with the student the difficulties they are having and the learning and teaching methods that suit them best. During a tutorial session, they should prompt the student for responses, present questions and help the student to answer the questions in a structured and academic manner. The Academic Tutor should strive to create a stimulating and interactive learning environment which enhances the student's understanding of the module content. The Academic Tutor may assist with exam revision and offer guidance on exam performance skills. At the end of each session, the Academic Tutor should ask the student for feedback and agree the material to be covered in the next session. The Academic Tutor should give adequate notice to the student if unable to fulfil an appointment and reschedule the tuition for the next available time. The Learning Support Tutor will offer guidance and support to students in the development of skills required for learning at third level. The Learning Support Tutor may be required to support a student in their organisational skills and their time management of college assignment workload. The Learning Support Tutor may be required to assist the student in interpretation of assignment briefs. The Learning Support Tutor may be required to offer academic writing guidance in line with guidelines provided. Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills: Appropriate Honours primary degree (second-class or higher) in the relevant area.
