Media & Public Affairs Manager We're excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Media & Public Affairs Manager to join our Communications & Brand team. This senior role is pivotal in shaping our organisation's reputation, managing media engagement, delivering thought leadership, and supporting public affairs activity that positions us as a trusted leader in the insurance sector. This role demands excellent media judgement, a strong news sense, and the confidence to advise senior leaders. You'll be a skilled communicator and relationship builder, capable of turning complex business messages into clear, compelling stories that resonate across audiences. You'll collaborate closely with our Marketing team to amplify campaigns, identify thought leadership opportunities, and bring proactive storytelling ideas to life across earned and owned media channels. We support flexible working, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team, and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, increasing to the majority of your working week from September 2025. This includes attendance at our head office, client visits, or industry events. Key Responsibilities: Lead external media relations and public affairs strategy across all lines of business. Build and maintain strong relationships with national, business, and trade media. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on media engagement, profile building, and reputation management. Identify proactive media opportunities and manage media risks with sound judgement. Lead reactive media handling and issues management as needed. Shape and deliver thought leadership content and campaigns aligned with business strategy and reputation priorities. Work closely with Marketing to amplify campaigns and identify news angles. Draft high-quality press releases, media statements, briefing notes, speeches, and opinion pieces. Prepare and brief senior spokespeople for media engagements and speaking opportunities. Collaborate with European and global communications teams to localise and amplify campaigns. Engage with key external stakeholders including industry bodies, regulators, government, and business forums. Monitor public policy, regulatory, and reputational developments impacting the business. Manage PR agency relationships, set clear SLAs, oversee deliverables, and evaluate performance. Lead budget management for external communications, ensuring alignment with priorities and strong ROI. Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 5-7 years' experience in communications, media relations, and/or public affairs (essential). Third-level qualification (degree) or equivalent combination of education and experience (essential). In-house communications experience (desirable). Experience managing PR agency relationships and communications budgets (desirable). Membership of relevant professional bodies such as PPRI or MII (desirable). Building a sustainable tomorrow We are looking for a Head of Public Affairs & Insights to join our team in Ireland on a 12 month fixed term contract. This role will support business growth through market intelligence, public policy engagement, and stakeholder influence in the Irish market. Experience and knowledge of Irish public affairs and political landscape is essential, construction sector knowledge and regulatory monitoring experience is also desirable. Key skills required include an ability to engage stakeholders at national level in the public and private sectors, experience in strategic communication and public policy interpretation, and the ability to translate complex trends into actionable insights. Your mission Insights Monitor, analyse and report on public policy developments relating to infrastructure and construction. Gather and analyse market intelligence in target product/market areas. Undertake/support periodic research on target markets and new trends as required. Produce monthly market insights report for Ireland. Provide market updates for Ireland Segment monthly and quarterly reports. Work in partnership with the Client Account and Insights teams to inform on market trends, policy developments, client priorities, and strategic positioning to support pipeline growth and relationship-based sales. Produce and disseminate ad hoc briefing papers to support positioning on significant policy issues relating to Ireland. Public Affairs Develop and embed a structured approach to public affairs management in Ireland. Create networking and relationship-building opportunities for BAM leadership with relevant senior public and business leaders. Develop relationships with key industry bodies to facilitate government engagement and wider networking, and ventilate BAM policy positions. Liaise with external public affairs consultant to implement our PA & PR strategy. Coordinate effective and ethical use of corporate hospitality and entertainment to support relationship-building. Who are we looking for? A comprehensive knowledge of the Irish political and business landscape. A working knowledge of the Irish construction and infrastructure market, and how micro and macro trends impact it. The ability to take data from several sources, analyse and communicate back to key stakeholders at all levels within the business. Familiarity with CRM systems. The role will directly interface with the Senior Leadership team(Executive Director Ireland, Director Building/Civil, Head of Insights etc) so previous experience in communicating with key figures is a must. Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of, and network in, the Irish political and business environment Significant high-level experience in market analysis and public affairs Demonstrable capability in proactive engagement with C-suite/Ministerial stakeholders Personal attributes : A curious, self-starter, who is articulate and able to make the complex easily understood. Acting as a disciplined and focused ambassador for BAM, the successful candidate will build BAM's reputation with significant decision-makers and identify market trends that align with our strategy to create real client value.
