Job Description
The shift supervisor is responsible for production output and supervising the operatives on the shift and ensuring compliance on the shift with company policy and procedures and product specifications. He/she is also responsible for safety and ensuring that the work is being conducted in a safe manner in accordance with the company's policy and procedures and Irish legislation. The person will have a technical background, maybe a fitter or mechanic by trade, and will have worked in a manufacturing environment previously. Experience in Injection moulding machines would also be a distinct advantage.
He/she will be responsible for the smooth operation of the production machines on the shift. This will involve troubleshooting, fine-tuning of process and fixing machine breakdowns. It will also involve removing and setting up moulds in machines.
The production output encompasses the quality of the output and the quantity produced. The Quality of the product is paramount: it must comply with documented specification. Production is high volume, low cost. Margins on product are very tight - it is essential that production is right first time.
The supervisor will also be responsible for supervising and managing all operatives on the shift.
Remuneration is dependent upon qualifications/experience.
Duties are as follows:
- Produce the product according to agreed Quality standards and specifications.
- Maximise Output without compromising quality.
- Mould changeovers, machine maintenance, fix breakdowns, fault finding and process optimisation.
- Supervise, motivate and develop employees to achieve maximum output to a standard that complies with specifications and standards. Train employees so that they can carry out their responsibilities and also ensure that training is refreshed where required. Responsible for recording training.
- Manage employees in a fair and reasonable manner and refer all disciplinary matters to management. Complete performance appraisals of operatives.
- Comply with company policy and procedures and ensure that all cleanroom and hygiene regulations are adhered to at all times.
- Responsible for safe work environment and ensure all safety rules and regulations are complied with. Provide Safety training to employees under direct control.
- Organise and plan production to ensure that it is achieved in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Ensure that all paperwork is completed correctly and in a timely fashion.
- Monitor and review:
- Product quality – ensuring that all sampling and testing is performed,
- Production output,
- Reject levels,
- Non-conforming product produced,
- Operator performance.
- Ensure adequate raw materials are in the system for the duration of shift and the start of the next shift.
- Effective and informative Shift handovers.
The individual must be hard working and must have the ability to prioritise work and meet challenges head on. The work environment is busy and varied. Organisational, planning, and effective communication skills are necessary to fulfil this role. A self-starter with bundles of initiative is also a requirement. He/she must be flexible and willing to work late or start early on occasions. The company operates seven days per week, 24 hours per day.

Job Summary

- Safe operation being the primary objective, the Shift Supervisor ensures good schedules are achieved in accordance with the company's policies and procedures, this includes efficient shift start up handover to next shift and driving performance to achieve site metrics, Safety. - Maintain plant safety at the highest level with a focus on prevention of incidents via the See do Day (Near Miss Reporting) Program as well as providing an immediate response-thorough investigation-corrective action for all hazardous occurrences and accidents.
- Out of hours the Shift Supervisor acts for the Area Manager and engages the site call out support system as required.
- Provides front line response for safety, quality and plant downtime issues. Troubleshoots problems on the shop floor in conjunction with quality standards with the appropriate engineering/ process engineering support.
- When senior management is not onsite during weekends, the supervisor will serve as the site lead and point of contact for operational, warehouse, and maintenance staff. They will also be responsible for escalating any issues to the appropriate department owners as per escalation process.
- Act as incident responder for the site during periods when EHS and management are offsite.
- Constantly work to improve the compliance culture with respect to quality, housekeeping, cGMP, utilizing plant systems such as Deviation, CAPA and Change Control.
- Complete production paperwork including opening and closing work order documentation.
- Carry out complete review of Batch Cards including sign off.
- In conjunction with the Area Manager participate actively in Waterford Lean Daily Management System. Monitor actual v planned performance and take corrective actions as necessary in order to meet targets for safety, RFT quality, output and efficiency.
- Participate in production teams and plant cross functional teams. Play an active and key role in continuous improvement initiatives/projects.
- Promote and support site initiatives including safety programs, lean initiatives, training programs, and consistently interpret and apply all policies, practices and procedures among plant team members.
- Support Area Manager in Organization and execution of training for the team; identification of training requirements for the team; planning and evaluation of the personnel development activities in line with the company targets.
- Manage the team's performance, conduct performance 1 to 1's, support recruitment, training and development plans while addressing any issues that arise in a timely manner.
- Maintain a positive employee relations atmosphere. Ensure that there is good communication and co-operation by encouraging knowledge sharing.
- Participate in the resolution of team members relations issues.
- Review and approve work time in the appropriate timekeeping system. Maintain and verify accuracy of the hours each team member has worked.
- Adjust direct labor to support demand and manage available resources to ensure on time production and delivery of customer orders with consistent focus on labor absorption.

Responsibilities
SUMMARY
Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of the assigned operations staff by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the facility on a rotating shift basis.
- Monitor and operate, as necessary the boilers, flue gas treatment, water treatment, turbine/generator, switchgear, and other auxiliary plant systems.
- Tour all areas of the plant and monitor the activities of the assigned operating staff.
- During emergency or unusual situations, the shift supervisor shall direct or if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions as well as coordinate the activities of all personnel involved.
- Approve all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with facility procedures.
- Conduct regular safety reviews for operators under your supervision.
- Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Facility/Department Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise a group of employees in the Operations Department such as control room operators, crane operators, equipment operators, utility operators, auxiliary operators, tipping floor operators, scale operators and laborers. This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; approving time sheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.
