As a Cloud & AI Solution Engineer on the Azure Platform, you'll play a key role in helping mid-market customers modernize their infrastructure and unlock the full value of Microsoft's cloud. You'll work directly with technical and business stakeholders to design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient architectures that support AI workloads and business-critical applications.
You bring deep expertise in migrating core workloads-including Windows, SQL Server, Linux, PostgreSQL, and Oracle-to Cloud & AI. **The Role**
Proofpoint is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist to join the Algo team within the Tessian Business Unit. In this role, your key responsibility will be to analyse data, build ML models and improve algorithms at the core of our email threat detection engine that protects some of the largest businesses in the world. You will collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify and solve the most impactful problems applying state-of-the-art machine learning tools and techniques. **Your day-to-day**
-Wrangle and draw meaningful insights from massive amounts of unstructured textual data using the latest tools and technologies like Spark, Iceberg, Athena, AWS SageMaker
-Apply unsupervised learning algorithms across billions of email interactions to identify emerging threat patterns
-Work with state-of-the-art machine learning models and techniques like encoder-decoder transformers, LLMs, anomaly detection as well as classical ML models to solve a multifaceted problem
-Engineer new features, train and deploy models to production using AWS SageMaker as the MLOps platform
-Adopt a data-driven approach to identify gaps in our detection algorithms and propose improvements to our models and algorithms
-Promote and drive ML best practices and cultivate an environment of experimentation and learning
-Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning, AI technologies, and incorporate them into our solutions where applicable
**What you bring to the team**
Essential
- Proficiency in Python with the ability to write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code for data analysis, modeling and experimentation
- Experience contributing to multiple highly impactful machine learning projects with proven results
-Hands-on experience in the NLP domain involving training, fine-tuning and productionising transformer-based models for text classification / text-embeddings (experience with LLMs, generative AI is a plus)
-Experience monitoring and maintaining performance of models over time in production considering model/data drifts In-depth experience with one or more deep neural network frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX)
-A creative mindset, propensity to care deeply about the impact their team has and to encourage novel ways of critical thinking in their team
Good to have
-Conceptual understanding of Graph Neural Networks and experience applying GNNs to solve real world problem statements will be a plus
-Experience working on large imbalanced datasets, evaluating and selecting models that work well in production on imbalanced real-world data

What the project is about:
The COIN Project (Control-Oriented Innovations for Future Ocean Energy Farms) is focused on advancing renewable ocean energy in response to climate goals and growing concerns over energy security and pricing. By developing innovative solutions such as smart connectors for mooring and power, real-time AI-based wave prediction, and digital twin-based health monitoring, the project aims to overcome technical and economic challenges in wave energy. Hewlett Packard Labs is currently seeking a highly qualified, self-motivated machine learning/AI researcher to be part of a new and growing AI research team in Ireland, to accelerate research towards various applications of digital twins incorporating Machine Learning.
Hewlett Packard Labs is an international research organization with its headquarters and largest facility located in Silicon Valley, California. The AI Research Lab (AIRL) focuses on applied ML research and applications of interest to HPE and HPE's customers. AIRL's research focuses on Reinforcement Learning applications in sustainability, digital twins, complex scientific applications (like fusion energy), LLMs, trustworthy and responsible AI, and the data foundation infrastructure for AI. Our team is diverse, with a broad range of skill sets and expertise that enables the exploration of innovative ideas that are not possible in monolithic research organizations.
We are seeking highly qualified candidates to join our team as a machine learning research engineer. We are interested in individuals with a background in machine learning, time series analysis, reinforcement learning and Digitial twins. Digital twin applications require a strong engineering background with an aptitude to model physical systems. The ideal candidate demonstrates an entrepreneurial interest in creating new products and technologies with a fluency in system level analysis and design.
We expect all our team members to provide thought leadership and technical influence internally and externally, take innovative ideas and make them real - contributing along the full range from conception, to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. The ideal candidate thrives in an applied research environment, managing risk, and balancing management responsibilities with technical and scientific contributions, and brings such contributions to practice. We expect the successful candidate to collaborate with Hewlett Packard Labs' research teams, with external partners, and to work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community. The ideal candidate develops and programs integrated software algorithms to structure, analyze and leverage structured and unstructured data in product and systems applications. Can work with large scale computing frameworks, data analysis systems, and modeling environments. Uses machine learning and statistical modeling techniques to improve product/system performance. Formulates descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights/ algorithms and translates technical specifications into code. Applies, optimizes and scales deep learning technologies and algorithms to give computers the capability to visualize, learn and respond to complex situations. Documents procedures for installation and maintenance, completes programming, performs testing and debugging, defines and monitors performance metrics.
Education and Experience
- PhD degree (or MS with equivalent research and innovation experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, math, physics, statistics, mechanical engineering, etc.)
- Proven record of innovation with Deep Learning or with scientific and engineering computation involving the application of Machine Learning.
- Demonstrated experience with innovative solution development, developing proofs-of-concept, first-of-a-kind solutions, and technology transfer.
- Strong software development skills in Python and Pytorch are required.
- Strong application experience of Machine Learning with physical systems is required.
- Good understanding of digital twins, use of ML with Digital Twins, applications to sustainability
- A strong science or engineering background with aptitude for system level analysis and modeling.
- Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature.
- Excellent research and development skills.
