This role also supports transitioning designs from R&D into manufacturing and provides technical expertise for field troubleshooting and quality assurance initiatives. Owns derivation & test of product requirements and high-level design system and subsystem specifications. This includes derivation from user needs, writing, tracing, characterizing, and verifying specification performance. Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups. Will provide guidance and work direction to cross-functional team members including mechanical engineers, reliability engineers, software developers, and software test. Independently evaluates problems of high complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives. Designs and performs development activity independently with minimal supervision. Development of detailed subsystem workflow step and exception logic to guide software in development of instrument functions as well as to inform Theory of Operation for product/solution. Collects, records, analyzes, interprets, reports, and, presents results to cross functional colleagues and leaders. Responsible for employing DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) and product development best practices to manage technical risk and impart product robustness and reliability. Execute system verification and validation activities for their cross-functional project team including protocol writing, execution and reporting. Contributes to the transition from R&D to manufacturing/service and supports system troubleshooting activities for products in the field. Liaison between R&D and Quality/Reliability functions to inform/support functions based on quality procedures including risk analysis, verification/validation for specific subsystems. About you Must have a bachelor's degree in science or engineering. A minimum of 6 years relevant experience in systems engineering, medical device design, robotic system design or similar. Experience with Systems Engineering and requirements management, including: Demonstrated capability with requirement/specification management Systems integration and testing, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, verification & validation Experimental design, data acquisition, graphical analysis and use of statistical methods for large complex data sets. Experience implementing Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies. Beta-testing, and/or field implementation of new product launches preferred. Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, with global collaboration and external development partners. Ability to communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge effectively and clearly to other individuals and teams. Experience operating in at least 1 product development process: waterfall or agile; experience operating within design control. Your technical expertise will directly impact the safety, environmental compliance, and commercial success of thermal generation infrastructure. You will support projects through all phases-from concept and design to commissioning-while also contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices across the business. You will - Lead and support control systems engineering activities across all project phases-including concept design, construction, and commissioning-for major capital projects in the thermal generation portfolio. - Ensure the medium- to long-term integrity and performance of high-risk operational assets by applying advanced control systems knowledge and risk-based strategies. - Develop and maintain engineering and design standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal governance, and functional safety requirements (e.g., IEC 61508). - Provide specialist control systems expertise to project teams and operational staff, including guidance on DCS technologies, cybersecurity (OT), digitisation, fiscal metering, and environmental monitoring systems. - Ensure successful project execution by managing technical deliverables, reviewing design changes, and identifying and mitigating potential deviations during project delivery. You have - Higher level education or relevant industrial experience, including understanding plant operation and appropriate risk controls - affiliation with the IET and actively working toward Chartered Engineer status is desirable. - Proven ability to apply engineering principles to control systems, with progressing experience in areas such as system design, verification, functional safety, and commissioning of new installations or technologies. - Demonstrated understanding and application of safety, health, and environmental practices within control systems engineering, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational standards. - Experience applying engineering design and project standards, with the ability to lead defined work scopes and deliver high-quality outcomes on time and to specification. - Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions, develop engineering conclusions, and influence project direction across multidisciplinary teams.
