SUMMARY

The Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting Apprentice will serve as an integral member of the Maintenance and Engineering team in an end-to-end (Drug Substance, Drug Product and Packaging) manufacturing facility.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high standard of work, adhere to schedules and be a good communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate will also have good self-awareness, act decisively and be a complete team player.
If successful the candidate must attend block releases through a number of phases throughout the 4 year apprenticeship program. This may require attendance to one of the various technical institutions while maintaining and keeping the FAS / Solas register up to date.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support to the on-site maintenance and engineering personnel in daily routine and non-routine tasks.
- Operate and maintain systems such as emergency standby equipment, utilities and HVAC.
- Opportunity to provide technical support to various cross functional teams throughout the site.
- Responsible for providing support to all equipment so they remain operational, available for use and ensure it is GxP compliant at all times.
- Ensure that all maintenance duties are carried out in accordance to cGMP regulations, safety considerations and site quality standards.
- Use of permit to work system and other on-site safety systems to control engineering activities.
EDUCATION
Applicants must have achieved at least Grade D in five Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics, English and preferably one Technical/Science subject. (Current leaving cert students may apply but offer is subject to successfully pass these subjects).

- Proven knowledge and experience with one or more of the following will be an advantage: SCADA, Control Systems, Vision Systems
- Pack equipment systems, Cognex and Serialization experience – Some level of experience in all or any of these is highly advantageous
- Strong exposure to automation systems integration, solution design, in life sciences or medical devices is essential
- Experience in implementation and troubleshooting of SQL database systems for real time process data collection is an advantage.
- IT/Networking experience would be advantageous
- High level languages experience would be advantageous
Person Brief
Candidates must have a B.Sc. Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with emphasis in software development, electrical, electronic or automation discipline, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in industry, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, blue chip or relevant GMP manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication & problem solving skills as well as strong stakeholder & vendor management skills.
As this role is fully onsite in Sligo and the successful candidate must be based in Sligo or within a reasonable commute. Only candidates with a current valid work permit to work in Ireland can be considered due to project timelines.

Job Description
Horizon Controls Group are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automation Systems Validation Engineer (CSV) to join our dynamic team. The CSV Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the compliance of automation systems, including DeltaV, Rockwell, and Siemens PLCs, with regulatory requirements within our highly automated and highly regulated biotech plant.
• Develop and execute validation protocols and test scripts for automation systems, including the DeltaV platform (DCS), Rockwell, and Siemens PLC-based control systems.
• Perform risk assessments and impact analyses to determine the criticality of automation systems and identify validation requirements.
• Collaborate with automation engineers, process engineers, and quality assurance professionals to develop validation strategies and documentation in accordance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, GMP, GAMP).
• Conduct IQ/OQ/PQ (Installation Qualification/Operational Qualification/Performance Qualification) activities for new automation systems and equipment.
• Execute periodic revalidation activities and manage change control processes for automation systems to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems validation, including deviations, discrepancies, and non-conformances.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams on validation best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Utilize the Kneat online validation platform for efficient and streamlined validation documentation management and execution.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in validation and qualification of automation systems within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Proficiency in validation principles and methodologies, including risk-based validation approaches.
• Hands-on experience with the DeltaV DCS platform and familiarity with other automation platforms such as Rockwell and Siemens PLCs.
• Experience of utilising and configuring Kneat online validation platform is essential.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, GMP, GAMP) related to automation systems validation in the biotech industry.
• Experience with validation documentation, including validation plans, protocols, reports, and traceability matrices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
