We are seeking an experienced Automation & Control Systems Engineer to take ownership of the design, programming, and delivery of advanced smart factory solutions. In addition, this candidate is responsible for maintaining and expanding the labs which host both automated and manual testing as well as conducting staging and certification of the product media during the ship-stage of a release.

Responsibilities
Financial services industry experience is preferred.

  • Work closely with the scrum master, product owner, architect, business analysts, product specialists, developers and other project team members to assist in carrying out the software quality responsibilities of the Scrum team
  • Create comprehensive test automation scripts from business requirements and functional specifications documents for product features of moderate complexity
  • Execute manual and automated functional, integration, regression, and performance tests
  • Maintain automated and manual test script libraries for functional, integration, regression, and performance testing
  • Align with the Software Development Life Cycle practices, comply with Information Security and Data Governance practices
  • Interpret results of automation tests and document software defects in issue tracking system; proactively communicate issues with developers and other project team members
  • Provide testing leadership by identifying opportunities for improvement in the Scrum team's QA methodology, innovate by researching and recommending new approaches to automation of testing, including use of Artificial Intelligence
  • Adhere to a testing schedule to ensure efficient and effective product delivery

Qualifications
Education:
B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study or Business with an MIS background. MS degree strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 2 - 4 years of experience in software testing in a process driven technology environment
  • Demonstrated experience programming with C#, SQL and shell scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash
  • Demonstrated experience implementing automation tests with Silk4Net strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and executing automation test scripts against web, native/desktop applications, APIs and batch applications.
  • Demonstrated experience using test cases, scripts, and automated test tools for verifying requirements on multi-tier applications

Summary:

Our client, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Co. Kerry, is seeking an
Automation Engineer
to join their Automation Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring reliable, compliant, and efficient automation systems that support manufacturing operations, process control, and integration with wider site systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement reliable and robust process control systems (DCS, PLC/SCADA) and vendor-packaged equipment to meet business and process requirements.
  • Ensure successful system integration with upstream and downstream systems, including filling lines, utilities, MES, and data historians.
  • Coordinate with design teams and control system vendors to deliver compliant and efficient automation solutions.
  • Create, review, and approve automation and OT-related project documentation, including schedules, user requirements, design documents, and IQ/OQ/FAT protocols for L2 systems, ranging from standalone lab equipment to aseptic filling lines.
  • Participate in and support qualification and validation activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of site procedures for the administration and maintenance of automation and OT systems.
  • Configure network parameters (IP Address, DNS) and verify communication between systems through appropriate firewall configurations.
  • Develop documentation for system server and network requirements and coordinate delivery with the IT department.
  • Participate in vendor and system assessments to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role within the life sciences industry.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional project environments.
  • Proven experience across CQV activities and full SDLC lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience in the design and implementation of DCS and PLC/SCADA platforms.
  • Excellent understanding of ISA-95 and ISA-88 standards.
  • Experience in OT network design, configuration, and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in L2–L3 system integration projects.
  • Experience implementing DCS or PLC/SCADA systems within drug product or aseptic fill-finish environments is highly desirable
