Job Title: Staff Nurse - Cath Lab
Reports: Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM)
Accountable: Director of Nursing
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Role Purpose
You must practice within the Codes of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by the Nursing and Midwifery board of Ireland (NMBI) and comply with the policies and procedures.Personally and professionally you are accountable to the patient. You are personally accountable for your own actions at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered in the general division of NMBI
- Evidence of personal professional development
- Ongoing skills training - relevant to care required for patient case load
- A minimum of 4 years post registration experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
1.1 Utilising assessment skills and techniques to determine patient needs on admission.
1.2 Documenting nursing admission assessment thoroughly and accurately.
1.3 Continually assess patient condition.
1.4 Clearly identify patient problems for which nursing care will be given.
1.5 Develop and document a care plan based on patient needs and best practice.
1.6 Update the written or computerised care plan.
1.7 Develop appropriate and individualised patient education and discharge planning and utilise available ward resources for same.
1.8 Collaborate with other health care team members within the defined clinical area in accordance with the patient care plan.
1.9 Develop discharge criteria from time of admission.
1.10 Plan work to allow time for training, meetings etc.
1.11 Provide safe, comprehensive nursing based on current standards and research, perform procedures according to established policy and procedures.
1.12 Administer the developed care plan in a consistent and flexible manner.
1.13 Fulfil prescribed orders completely and accurately.
1.14 Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely accurate and safe manner.
1.15 Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
1.16 Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality
1.17 Function effectively in an emergency situation.
1.18 Adapt to changing workloads.
1.19 Know and practice within legal requirements including those set down by NMBI
1.20 Evaluate and update care plans appropriately.
1.21 Evaluate personal nursing practice as compared to standards of care and know own ability and competence.
1.22 Participate in quality assurance by assisting to identify recurrent nursing problems and co(1)operate in data collection and problem solving.
1.23 You must comply with all hospital policy's in relation to Infection Prevention and Control. Every employee has a responsibility to know how to reduce infection in their role.
1.24 Promoting the safety, health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients and respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients and their families; 1.25 Maintaining appropriate and accurate written/electronic nursing and midwifery records and care plans regarding patient care in accordance with local/national/professional guidelines;
1.26 Taking responsibility for own competency and learning and development needs and actively contribute to the learning and development of the wider nursing and primary care team
1.27 Co-operating with the introduction of ICT systems, utilise and analyse the data and adopting the use of new systems in line with policies and procedures.
1.28 Ensuring that records are protected and managed as per policy and in accordance with relevant legislation
1.29 Working closely with colleagues across the hospital in order to provide a seamless service delivery to the patients
1.30 Evidence of participation in audit and evaluation of care provision including collection of quality care metrics where same are in place.

Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
Beaumont Cardiology Interventional Suite/Cardiology Day Ward is a rotational, dual area, cardiology service. It is a fast paced and rapidly changing service. The department performs elective, inpatient and emergency cases including coronary angiograms, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), TOEs, electrophysiology procedures and cardiac devices such as pacemakers and ICDs. We also perform more complex structural cases including insertion of Left atrial appendage closure devices and ASD/PFO closure device implantation. It is a Monday-Friday service providing care with a multidisciplinary team approach to deliver a high standard of patient care, working together to provide a safe environment and efficient service.
Principle duties and responsibilities:
To deliver and maintain a high standard of nursing care including virtual pre-assessment, pre intra and post procedure care, patient education and discharge advice.
Highly motivated and enthusiastic, exhibiting ability to work effectively as part of a MDT and independently within their scope of practice.
To maintain a high standard of professional and ethical responsibility.
To work to a safe and efficient standard within the quick changing environment.
To be adaptable to emergency situations working in the fast paced department.
Clinical Role:

Demonstrate expertise in the nursing assessment and management if emergency cardiac situations including acute cardiac chest pain patients and arrhythmias.
Have the ability to anticipate, recognise and rapidly respond to the unpredictable situations within the CIS and recovery/cardiology day ward.
Provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients in a highly complex and technical area.
Reassure and support patient's pre intra and post procedure.
Ensure safe and efficient set up of procedure equipment before each procedure adhering to ANTT and maintaining sterile environment.
Assist the medical team during cases by circulating within the lab and close monitoring of patients condition.
Administer medications as per ABA guidelines.
Assesses patients regularly for change in clinical condition and respond accordingly.
Participate in local audits in preparation for annual review.
Establishes care priorities based on patient and department need.
Functions quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Adapts efficiently to a changing workload.
Respects dignity and confidentiality of patients serving as an advocate as necessary.
Deals with department incident and accidents in accordance to the hospital policy.
Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in others areas of the hospital as needed.
Assists with the day to day running of the work list, assist with notifying wards of upcoming procedures.

Participate in the clinical induction of new nurse staff and ability to guide more junior staff within the department.
