  • Building structure design experience using all the main materials on a variety of structural projects but particular emphasis on Electrical Infrastructure, Transformer bunds, Foundations for Electrical Switchgear, New and Existing Substation Buildings, Drainage
  • Highly motivated Engineer with previous consultancy experience
  • Experience in Eurocodes essential
  • Knowledgeable in finite element and frame analysis software for steel and RC frames, flat slabs, etc. (Tekla, SCIA, etc)
  • Proficiency in Civil Design software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage.
  • Experience mentoring Junior Engineers.
  • Level 8 degree in relevant field (level 9 is advantageous).
  • Chartered status preferred.
  • 6+ years relevant experience.

Reporting to the Central Engineering manager, the Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring technical compliance on all project and, management of RIBA3-5 design processes and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing Design Delivery Schedules/Programmes along with the Client, Project Manager, Design team and consultants.
  • Coaching/mentoring junior engineers on projects.
  • Attending design related meetings and provide continual input to optimize design and minimize futile work, in person or through MSTF teams.

  • Engage in the recruitment process for engineers at all levels from Graduates to Lead Engineers. Engagement involves setting criteria for selection, developing Roles & Responsibility, interviews, selection, etc.
  • Manage the Company People Platform (MPP) from all aspects of setting goals, compensation review, ratings, maintaining organisation chart, approving leave, etc.
  • Ensure that the Engineering SOP's are robust, current, implemented & in use on projects and, where required, developed/implemented as needed.
  • Engage with planning and construction in producing programmes/schedules, primarily advising on the design phased elements, material lead times and on an ongoing basis updating progress.
  • Advise planning on any impacts that result from change management, issue, material delays and technical issues and potential mitigation.
  • Engage in development of off-site workshops & assembles and sub-contractor schedules to ensure engineering input is captured.
  • Oversee BIM involvement for engineering aspects.
  • Ensure BIM queries/enquiries, such as Request-For-Information (RFI) posts on BIM360, are managed and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the final handover requirements are to be considered in all the various steps associated with engineering from submittal to installation acceptance.
  • Ensure all safety requirements are met and reiterate to engineering and site teams continuously the importance of same and in particular the new members.
  • Engage with Offsite Site Assembly (OSA) and Offsite Site Manufacturing (OSM) to ensure engineering requirements are aligned prior to commencing, monitor during construction and meet handover requirements.

About The Role
Reporting to the CSA Design Manager, the Civil Design Engineer will be a senior member of the Project Team.

You will have notable cross-discipline design and technical experience in addition to the ability to communicate and engage with stakeholders, at all levels as required. This will include managing design packages from initial review, through to assisting with estimation, procurement, planning and handover for execution on site. With the ability to support the end-to-end project deliverables at all stages, the Civil Design Engineer will be integral to the delivery of high valued projects for major data centre clients.

You will be highly motivated to succeed in a dynamic, high-pressure, and fast evolving environment. A strong interest and curiosity in all aspects of the construction industry is expected. The role is responsible for both technical engineering knowledge as well as management of project team deliverables.

A key part of the role is the need to prioritise, co-ordinate and to successfully deliver compliant building facilities. In addition to working as part of a high-performance team, the Civil Design Engineer will hold responsibility for effectively supporting the CSA Design Manager, as well as MEP Managers and Engineers within Central Engineering, and CSA Managers and Engineers on site, to ensure that relationships are maintained, expectations are met, and Mercury Engineering's interests are upheld.

Team Management
Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction managers to develop comprehensive project plans and ensure delivery on schedule.
  • Collaborate with any other consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, estimators, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project.
  • Liaise with clients and other 3rd parties as required, such as insurance companies, vendors, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive scope-of-works (SoW), task information deliverables list (TIDP), and responsibility matrices (R&R/ RACI) for civil discipline.
  • Raise any design-related risks to planning, commercial and management, and establish a course to minimise their impact.
  • Maintain accurate records of key design activities (eg. changes, issues) as they arise and escalate to management as appropriate.
  • Assist the Central Engineering and site teams with proactive contributions to construction and team matters.
  • Attend design related meetings and provide continual input for optimisation.
  • Collaborate on new design issues/ changes/ research within the team.
  • Assist with new tenders and PCSA (pre-construction services agreements) deliverables within the Business Unit.

Project Management & Planning

  • Oversee the construction process to ensure adherence to design specifications and schedules.
  • Assist in developing design delivery schedules along with the client, project manager, design team and consultants.
  • Manage the deliverables and approvals processes of design packages to ensure full approval for procurement.
  • Check design programmes on projects are aligned to consultant resource and construction/ procurement requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and report progress and quality of work.
  • Correctly follow information control and flow standards e.g. for RFIs, use of BIM360, etc.

Technical Engineering

  • Ensure civil technical compliance on all projects.
  • Ensure knowledge of client and country-specific design standards.
  • Analyse and interpret geotechnical and SI reports and surveys.
  • Assess coordination of civil with substructural design.
  • Assess and mitigate potential risks and issues as they're identified in design, or that could have potential impact on construction activities.
  • Review design proposals by others for suitability and constructability.
  • Offer proposals for added value (VE) and off-site manufacturing (OSA).
  • Utilize CAD and BIM software to create detailed civil design proposals for review.
  • Ensure material choices are aligned to project requirements, budget, and QEHS standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive handover packs to the site team for any packages under your responsibility.
  • Coordinate and manage coordination of civil discipline and interfaces with MEP, structure and architecture.
  • Check plans, drawings, and quantities for accuracy of calculations.
  • Manage, monitor, and interpret the contract design documents supplied by the client or architect.
  • Identify requirements for statutory engagements and approvals on projects related to civil networks.

Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Civil Design Engineer, based in Dublin. The Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out calculations, manage a team of engineers and technicians to deliver the civil aspects of projects
  • Knowledge of varied European conditions will be advantageous
  • Experience in varied aspects of Civil engineering including roads design, role alignment, drainage and earthworks
  • Chartered status is advantageous- the company will also actively support the employee with achieving this status
  • Role will involve liaison with architects and other design team members, attendance at client meetings, presenting updates and deliverables to clients
  • Candidate will be required to report on project progress to management
  • Candidates will be required to visit sites throughout Europe and monitor progress and quality of works

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Civil Engineering Design and Civil Engineering fundamentals
  • At least 7 years experience in designing and delivering civil aspects of engineering projects
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Chartered status is advantageous
  • Experience in international projects is a plus

Energy Engineer – Civil Design (Renewables Focus)

We have a new opportunity for an
Energy Engineer
to join a multidisciplinary consultancy specialising in infrastructure, energy, and environmental services.

With offices across Ireland, this
Dublin-based position
offers the successful candidate the chance to join an established, dynamic company, expanding their expertise and broadening their professional experience.

You will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of our Energy and Planning division, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of activities within the Energy and Planning sector, including
civil design, project management, environmental assessments, and preliminary design for renewable energy developments
.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver projects in line with agreed timelines, quality standards, and budgets set with the client.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of
    civil and CAD design documentation
    , collaborating closely with Project Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain adherence to internal Quality Assurance and Management Systems.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the project team to ensure seamless project delivery.

Role Requirements

  • A degree in
    Civil Engineering
    (or related discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in civil design
  • Candidates from a
    consultancy background
    are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Previous
    civil design experience on Solar Farms, Wind Farms (onshore or offshore)
    , or a strong interest in transitioning into the renewable energy sector, is highly desirable.
  • We will also consider candidates with
    civil design and environmental engineering experience at the planning stage of projects
    .
  • Chartered Engineer status is an advantage.
  • Highly motivated professional with strong energy and drive.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical abilities.
