Drivers will be required to bring products into the school, replenishing on-site boxes with extreme care and attention. This role requires drivers who are excellent at time keeping and take pride in the quality of their work.
Activities
- Report to the Transport Co-ordinator.
- Pick up the delivery van at the GAA Hub Location in Thurles and delivering school lunches throughout the area.
- Ensure that all orders are correct before delivery.
- Maintain temperature records.
- Maintain cleaning schedule and records.
- Drive safely and follow all laws and rules of driving to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Load, unload, prepare, inspect and operate a delivery vehicle and report any issues with same.
- Ensure van has fuel, oil and is ready to drive while being well-maintained and clean both inside and outside.
- Maintain standards that correspond to that of company policy.
- Maintain Personal Hygiene.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager
Requirements
- Drivers must have a full, clean Irish driver's licence.
- Flexible approach to working hours / routes.
- Drivers must have no convictions, as schools may require Garda Vetting.
- Drivers must have experience with independently driving and delivering goods.
- Knowledge of routing, use of handheld devices and Eircode's will be an advantage.
- Ability to lift boxes up to 14 kgs.
Rate of Pay: €15.50 per hour with additional subsistence.
Drivers will work during the morning hours. Approximate times are 4am to 1pm, Monday through Friday.
Please note. We deliver in line with school openings. When schools are closed (Christmas, Easter, Summer and Halloween) staff are off. The company provides continuous payment to our staff from September - June. We pay our staff a reduced rate during the school breaks. Staff are advised to apply to the Department of Social Protection for relevant Jobseekers Payment during July and August.

Overview Of Role
Offer every assistance to retail shop teams to increase sales and profits for the benefit of people who are blind and vision impaired, supporting and endorsing the aims and values of the organisation.
Responsibilities:
Support Vision Ireland Retail shops by collecting and delivering clothing.
Maintain assigned vehicle with regard to daily/weekly driver checks
Fully comply with Irish Driving regulations and traffic laws
Comply with the health and safety working practice
Ensure that all vehicles are kept clean and tidy and cleaned out at least once a week
Ensure no Vision Ireland Retail vehicle is damaged.
Ensure that no violation of the Road Traffic Act is breached when you or other drivers are using Vision Ireland Retail vehicles.
Ensure that verbal and written reports of any damages to vehicles are passed immediately to the line manager. Pictures to be taken and Insurance and contact details to be exchanged.
Present a good image of Vision Ireland Retail at all times.
Be willing to work reasonable additional hours and to perform any other additional duties as and when required to meet the needs of the business
Travel to meetings and training sessions as required
Have basic knowledge of Vision Ireland Retail's structures and current activities
Engage and support fund raising and marketing initiatives
Ensure that all instructions and information received is communicated to van team members and is actioned on a regular basis using the appropriate communication tools
Ensure all documents are completed, (e.g. collection/delivery notes signed, vehicle checklists, mileage sheets, fuel receipts) and returned to the Warehouse Manager.
Work with Shop Teams to ensure an effective time management programme is operated
Ensure all requests for practical help are administered confidentially and via the appropriate channels
Comply with Vision Ireland Retail van administration procedures (as detailed in the Van Drivers' Manuals) and all other directives within agreed timescales
Ensure a satisfactory level of compliance in respect of Vision Ireland Retail audits and health & safety audits
Ensure vehicles are securely parked and locked each day and that any shutters/gates are locked
Ensure that all Vision Ireland Retail policies and procedures, including equal opportunities, are correctly followed at all times by all team members
Minimise the environmental impact of van activities, ensuring that environmental policies and procedures are followed at all times by all team members
Comply with Vision Ireland Retail health & safety policies and instructions and report any maintenance or other security/safety concerns to the SMC
Ensure manual handling guidelines are followed at all times by all team members
Carry out all reasonable tasks and requests as assigned by manager/supervisor
Essential Experience, Skills And Competencies
Proven multidrop van driving experience
Eligibility to work fulltime in ROI
Good local geographical knowledge
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to use initiative
Ability to work on your own
Full, clean drivers licence is essential
Experience working for a notforprofit organisation is an advantage.
