As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE), you will be part of highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling fascinating and challenging problems building and supporting the operations of AWS owned data centres, and Colocation facilities . The AWS Commissioning team (ACx) understands, evaluates, defines and manages the expectations of construction quality in accordance to engineering designs to meet the customer requirements.
Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting vendors, contractors and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems such as:
-Medium and low voltage power systems
-Generators
-UPS
-HVAC
-Chilled Water Systems
-Building Management systems (BMS)
-Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
-Testing and balancing
-Pumps and Hydronic systems
The CxE shall provide multi-discipline input into the scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects. In addition, the CxE will be required to review component submittal packages, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), perform system level and integrated system testing. During commissioning, the CxE will continuously audit activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for comprehensive weekly reporting of status of all ongoing projects and lessons learned to continually improve the quality of our program. This position will include coverage of multiple inflight projects.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience directly related to mission critical facilities or data center infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical 'gineering or relevant discipline preferred.

Prepare for commissioning activities in short durations, by reviewing the contracts, carrying out Commissioning management plan meetings, and explaining how the activities will be carried out. Preparing essential documentation such as commissioning protocols, checklists, ISO sheets, etc. Able to work independently and follow instructions and provide updates, feedback to the direct manager in a timely manner. You will collaborate with engineering managers, leads, and peers in executing assigned tasks associated with electrical and controls design and manufacturing of custom air handling equipment. You will work closely with the Electrical Panel manufacturing department to create and develop bespoke Electrical panel designs and drawings. 

You will provide design and technical support by applying engineering knowledge and theory to create detailed electrical and control design with for custom air-handling equipment for mission critical, institutional, and industrial applications with high regard to safety and quality through all stages of project lifecycle, including design development, bid proposal, approval submittals, manufacturing and close out documentation.   

How you will do it

  • Review and interpret project specifications and drawings related to electrical and control aspects of air handling equipment including detailed compliance reviews.
  • Create detailed power distribution schematics related to custom air handling equipment using CAD software to project specifications, customer requirements and industry-based codes.
  • Create detailed controls schematics for custom air handling equipment per project specification, customer requirements and industry-based codes.
  • Create detailed electrical panel and control panel layouts using CAD software to project specifications, customer requirements and industry-based codes.
  • Utilize engineering theory and code application to properly size electrical components commonly used in air handling equipment.
  • Perform calculations related to the electrical design of air handling equipment including but not limited to minimum circuit ampacities, overcurrent protection and amperage using methods defined by relevant industry codes.
  • Select and evaluate power distribution and controls products for use in air handling equipment and create detailed bill of materials for applicable to created designs.  
  • Compile detailed project submittal documentation including drawings, data, calculations, and product data specific to submitted equipment design.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical and controls engineering teams to ensure related interdisciplinary design elements are coordinated effectively.
  • Provide technical support to external and internal customers related to electrical and controls design including support to manufacturing engineering, production, procurement, and field staff.
  • Provide estimating support during project bids.

What we look for

  • Electrical engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.) or Electrical Engineering Technical Diploma
  • 3+ years experience in Electrical and Controls design of HVAC equipment
  • Strong knowledge of industry related controls and electrical products, applicable codes and standards
  • Proficient with drafting in AutoCAD, AutoCAD electrical and other related applicable electrical design software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines
  • Ability to interact positively and build relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial
