Job Description

Who we are

About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About The Team
The Privacy and Data Protection team is dedicated to ensuring that users' data is handled responsibly and securely, thereby fostering trust in Stripe's Privacy and Security practices. Stripe will succeed at our mission of increasing the GDP of the internet only if we prove ourselves worthy of our users' trust. We build application & infrastructure solutions into Stripe's Data Platform so that data protection guarantees are always on by default. We do this by targeting application & infrastructure layer protections to abstract complexity, and provide intuitive, out-of-the box solutions for common concerns, enabling teams to integrate quickly and get on with their work. This team will work closely with various engineering and cross-functional teams across Stripe to achieve our objectives.

What you'll do

We're looking for an engineer who is passionate about building engineering solutions for privacy and security governance of large scale data. This role is critical for Stripe business and for the future of internet-enabled commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build services and frameworks and tooling used by all of Stripe's engineering teams to provide privacy and security controls on our data.
  • Build solutions that can be either centrally applied or used by other teams to improve the privacy and security postures of their datasets.
  • Create new ways for Stripe to safely interact with data as new opportunities arise, for example the safe usage of agentic AI.
  • Collaborate with our users and cross-functional partners to improve on these systems.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2-10 years of professional hands-on software development experience
  • Has a curious and learning mindset, regardless of level or experience
  • Has empathy, strong communication skills and a deep respect for the power of collaboration
  • Works well cross-functionally and cross-team; and your co-workers at all levels trust you
  • Drives clear next steps when encountering ambiguous spaces without clear lines of ownership
  • Thinks creatively and holistically when solving problems
  • Prefers simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have a good intuition for what is lasting and scalable
  • High standards for code quality and a constructive attitude to help others raise the bar

Preferred Qualifications

  • Privacy, security, data governance and/or data engineering experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • Experience with Go, Java or Ruby

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €104,000 - €156,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant's location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
