ABOUT THE JOB:
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection and Compliance Manager to lead the management & further development of our data privacy, compliance and risk functions.
Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer and based in our Head Office in Swords, Co. Dublin, the successful candidate will possess relevant experience implementing best practice frameworks. You will have excellent organisational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, initiative, and excellent influencing skills.
You will have responsibility for the company's data protection strategy ensuring compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations. You will have responsibility for regulatory compliance across the business in areas such as consumer law, advertising standards and will work with our corporate risk and compliance teams to ensure adherence to all internal policies and relevant laws & regulations. You will implement , oversee and advise on the company's risk and compliance framework and promote a culture of compliance within all business operations.
YOUR JOB – your tasks will include:

Data Protection –
Manage Data Privacy & GDPR impacts across the business, manage Subject Access Requests, Data Privacy Impact Assessments across the business, map Data Processing Activity and provide support to departments in assessing risks within their business unit. Provide training and audit of compliance with GDPR. Act as the company Data Protection Officer.

Compliance Planning
– Develop and manage the Harvey Norman Ireland Risk and Compliance Framework and plan in conjunction with the corporate risk management team. Undertake risk assessments in both head office, retail, and digital operations to determine the functional work areas that exhibit the highest risk, with projects designed to manage and control the relevant environment. Manage company Risk Register.

Compliance and Governance
- including Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations , examples include data protection , advertising standards , consumer regulations , environmental codes, and ethical standards.

Project Management
- Complete all assigned projects in line with the agreed scope and objectives. Responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of Harvey Norman regulatory framework and compliance programme with
other key stakeholders.

Procedure Development
-
Develop, in consultation with other key stakeholders, appropriate policies and procedures to
ensure ongoing compliance with legislation and best practice in the regulatory environment.

Legal
– Involvement in any regulatory reviews in conjunction with the CFO, Heads of Departments, and legal representatives. Manage GDPR /Data Protection obligations and reporting. Provide support to Head Office teams advise of impact and adherence to relevant legislation. Provide general legal support as required.

Business Continuity Planning
– Manage the BCP for HN Ireland.

Training
– Develop, and provide where required, training for both retail and head office staff in their regulatory obligations. Lift awareness and skill levels of staff in these areas.

Auditing
- Collect and analyse data across all retail and head office departments to assess the effectiveness of the compliance/risk management framework and address deficient controls, non-compliance with legal requirements and/or company policies.

Risk Management and Mitigation
: Advise management on risk mitigation strategies and the design of internal controls.
·
Reporting
- Prepare accurate, comprehensive and timely reports which set out any breaches, together with findings and recommendations made from audits, for relevant managers and the Executive Management Committee.

UK
: Following the recent expansion of Harvey Norman in the UK this position will provide support to the UK management team to implement the corporate framework for the UK market.
YOUR PROFILE – your knowledge, skills and experience include:

5+ years' experience working in a Data Protection, compliance or a similar regulatory role. Industry or professional services firm experience in a similar role.

Qualification in Data protection law / General legal qualification.
· Experience acting as Data Protection Lead.
·
An understanding and clear appreciation of the importance of the Compliance & Risk function.
·
An ability to identify key tasks and prioritise effective execution.
·
Experience in implementing a risk-based compliance plan.
· Project Management skills.

What Does An Average Day Look Like?

- Develop, implement and oversee the Group's data protection framework, policies and processes to ensure compliance with GDPR/UKGDPR and industry best practice;
- Establish data protection governance objectives and key risk indicators that align with the Group's risk appetite and compliance requirements and report to UK and Irish Boards on risks, threats and mitigation strategies;
- Lead and oversee cross border transfer strategies, including internal data sharing agreements and standard contractual clauses;
- Implement systems and processes to monitor, identify and mitigate data protection risks across business units and jurisdictions;

As Data Protection Manager, you will be part of the team responsible for the management and provision of advice on all data protection regulations impacting the Bank. The role includes responsibility for the management of personal data breaches, including timely engagement with the Data Protection Commission on behalf of the Bank, trend analysis and engagement with the business units.
This role sits within the Data Protection team in Regulatory Compliance and Conduct Risk, and you will report to the Deputy Data Protection Officer.
The Regulatory Compliance and Conduct Risk Team is an independent second line function that reports to the Chief Risk Officer. The team supports the Group Executive Committee and the Board in managing regulatory compliance, conduct and reputational risk across PTSB and is key to supporting the Bank in managing its relationship with its regulators.
Responsibilities:
Functional Strategy & Delivery
- Work closely with the senior management team to ensure effective and efficient communication in relation to data protection legislation and participate, as required, in monthly meetings with senior management.
- Responsible for the effective management and record keeping of data breaches, data protection related complaints and Data Protection Commission investigations. This includes collaborating with 1st line colleagues to mitigate reoccurrence of the breach.
Risk Management & Control
- Responsible for keeping up to date on all relevant data protection legislative developments and completing 2nd line forward looking horizon scanning on emerging regulatory developments. Collaborate with 1st and 2nd line colleagues to ensure effective implementation.
- Lead the provision of training on data protection obligations and developments.
Lead an inspiring Culture
- Champion and embed our values-based culture by living our PTSB values and behaviours every day in your interactions with team members, colleagues across the Bank and external partners.
- Support other relevant ad-hoc activities within the Compliance function.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and manage relationships with a variety of business areas and stakeholders in supportive and collaborative ways, always actively promoting a strong culture that values risk and compliance management.
- Build trust and credibility within the team and business by demonstrating a professional approach and strong understanding of governance, risk management, risk assessment and control practices, including applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
Requirements:
- A relevant professional data protection qualification.
- Direct experience in a data protection compliance and oversight role.
- Relevant management experience in Compliance or another function/department.
- A strong understanding of data protection law and regulation and how to apply it in a business environment, readily commanding confidence as an expert in your professional field.
- A good understanding of data protection & compliance risks across the banking industry.
- A good understanding of the financial services industry, relevant products and services and the wider regulatory environment.
- Strong influencing & communications skills and has the confidence to deal with management at all levels.
- Ability to produce written and verbal outputs with clarity and impact.
- Self-motivated, able to correctly set their own priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Highly organised with an ability to work under pressure and to strict timelines while managing conflicting priorities.
