Role Purpose

This is a pivotal role requiring an experienced individual capable of providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and expert governance to ensure the Medical Council's support functions operate in a way that optimises the overall effectiveness of the Council and enables the delivery of its strategy. Role requirements:

Essential

  • Professional qualification in accountancy (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA) or equivalent, a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of Financial Strategy formulation and execution.
  • A minimum of 5 years' senior leadership experience, including at least 2 years within the Public Sector, with responsibility for:
  • Leading sizeable multi-disciplinary teams, with Finance as a core area of responsibility; additional leadership across Procurement, ICT, Facilities, and People and Culture is considered an advantage.
  • Public sector financial management, including strategic budgeting, financial forecasting and procurement processes

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Strategic Financial Leadership and Management

Olympic Handball Ireland

('OHI')

is the National Governing Body for handball over the 32 counties of  Ireland. Olympic Handball Ireland is responsible for the grassroots development of the sport, as well as national league and cup competitions. It is responsible for the development of national teams at all age groups, as well as developing coaches and referees and works in conjunction with multiple stakeholders, including Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, Olympic Federation of Ireland, Federation of Irish  Sport, European Handball Federation, and International Handball Federation.  

The Board

The Board is responsible for the governance of the sport, ensuring the delivery of our Mission, Core  Values and Strategy. We are seeking to further strengthen the skill set and gender balance within the  Board. As a director, you will have input into the delivery of our strategy and will contribute with  insight and experience at meetings. All Directors are non-executive and act in a voluntary capacity. The  Board is supported by a

team of staff

who look after the executive functions of the organisation. 

What we need from you

We are looking to bring in a director with suitable experience such as a formal accountancy degree to  support the continued development of Olympic Handball Ireland. This is a volunteer (unpaid) role to  assist in the application of governance by the board and the organisation.  

Ideal candidates will preferably have some of the following skills sets:  

  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector.
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values.
  • Commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance.
  • Knowledge of Olympic handball is desirable but not essential

General Duties of a Director

  • Acting within the Olympic Handball Ireland Constitution and the law as it applies to NGB's.
  • Faithfully fulfilling the fiduciary duties of a Board Director as specified within the Republic of Ireland Companies Act and adhering to the policies and procedures outlined in Olympic Handball Ireland policies.
  • Acting in the best interests of Olympic Handball Ireland at all times and particularly in relation to  assets, property, statutory obligations and management requirements as outlined in Olympic  Handball Ireland policies.
  • Acting independently and not on behalf of any other person or organisation.  - Abiding by Olympic Handball Ireland's Conflicts of Interest or Loyalty policy.  - Not accepting gifts or gifts in kind in the capacity of a Board member.
  • Acting with integrity, promoting the reputation of Olympic Handball Ireland and not bringing the  reputation of the organisation into disrepute.
  • Promoting and preserving the obligations of confidentiality and data protection within the Board  and Olympic Handball Ireland as a whole.
  • Providing adequate time and commitment as required to fulfill the role of Board member,  adequately preparing for meetings and participating in committees and special events where  appropriate and required.

Co-opted Directors are co-opted until the next Annual General Meeting where they will be elected by the members for a three-year term.  

Flexibility is required to attend Committee meetings (this may include chairing a committee) when  scheduled (approx. 4 times per year). Attendance at other key meetings and events, including participating in ad-hoc meetings subject to availability.  

Outside of Board meetings, the time commitment required would be 6-8 hours per month.

Key Responsibilities And Duties
Strategic Financial Leadership and Management

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organisational goals.
  • Advise the CEO and SLT on financial planning, risk management, and investment decisions.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and multi-year financial forecasting.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee all financial operations including accounting, payroll, cash flow, and financial controls.
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for the Board, SLT, and funders.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team to manage their departmental budgets. Prepare departmental and project expenditure reports and cashflows for project and departmental managers.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including tax, audit, and charity regulations.
  • Proactively plan for funder audits and respond to funder audit reports in a timely manner.

Governance and Board Support

  • Act as Secretary to the Finance and Audit Subcommittee, preparing agendas, papers, and minutes.
  • Support the Board in understanding financial performance, risks, and strategic implications.
  • Ensure financial policies and procedures are up-to-date and effectively implemented.

Risk and Compliance

  • Lead on financial risk management, including internal controls and fraud prevention.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, funder requirements, and best practice standards.
  • Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Collaborate across departments to support programme budgeting, grant management, and financial literacy.
  • Promote financial transparency and understanding throughout the organisation.

We are recruiting a
Finance Director
to join a very busy commercial real estate consultancy. The ideal candidate is driven and experienced and looking to enhance his/her career within one of Europe's leading Commercial Real Estate Consultancy firm.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and technical skills and work in a stand-alone role, in support of both local management and the finance team in Paris HQ, to ensure financial management information and day to day accounting deliverables are provided to a high standards within local and Group timescales. The Finance Director will have a solid background in financial accounting and have the ability to provide a positive impact from day one.

The Finance Director scope of responsibilities ranges from local accounting, tax and performance steering to Group reporting for accounting and management data. The Finance Director will be a member of the Executive Committee and report into the Chief Operations Officer, BNP Paribas Real Estate Ireland. They will have a functional reporting line into the Chief Financial Officer, BNP Paribas Real Estate.

Main Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To
In accordance with local rules and standards and also BNP Paribas group procedures

Accounting field

  • Managing the book-keeping and monthly closing with some support from an administrative assistant
  • Managing the Aged Debtor accounts and ensuring compliance with group provisioning policies and procedures;
  • Adapting and maintaining the accounting systems, methods and policies to deliver improvements in financial analysis and the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports;
  • Advising on and dealing with tax issues and timely submission of VAT and PAYE returns
  • Managing the Company's treasury reporting;
  • Developing and implementing finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures;

Performance Management field

  • Leading the Performance Management production and reporting for actual, estimate and budget, as well as control plan;
  • Assisting in the delivery of the strategy and plan of the business lines and support business change and process improvement;
  • Reporting, analysing and improving the cost allocation methodology to include overheads and cost allocation methodology for central functions;

Control and Governance field

  • Maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards and reporting, in liaison with the management and Group procedures, including separation of duties and 4-eyes checks with the support of the local COO
  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts, monthly management packs, year-end and interim audit schedules and board reports and comply with the latest statutory, regulatory rules and standards;
  • Liaising effectively and timely with internal and external Audit, involving the examination of the organisation's accounts, analysing risk, inspecting the organisation's current practices, investigating any financial anomalies and recommending improvements;
  • Liaising with non-financial members of staff, providing financial information and advice;
  • Liaising with on a regular basis with the Finance team in Paris HQ and BNPP RE CFO
  • Participating in projects led by BNPP Group Finance stream
  • Supporting and advising management in decision making, as requested by the Managing Director;
  • Liaising with HR on financial matters to include salary and bonus schemes modelling;

Qualifications And Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA);
  • A minimum of 4 years post qualification experience working in a similar role
  • Previous experience working in a large, complex organisation would be an advantage.
  • Strong financial planning & analysis experience;
  • Strong accounting background (Profit & Loss / Balance Sheet expertise);
  • Good knowledge and practice of internal control rules;
  • Experience of producing reports and financial statements;
  • Budget monitoring and costs analysis experience;
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office package, expert Excel user;

Soft Skills

  • Team player with excellent formal and informal communications skills and interpersonal skills. It is an essential requirement of the role that the successful candidate is fluent in English, both spoken and written
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Proven ability to effectively multitask work;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to follow instructions and excellent reporting skills and follow up are a must;
