Here's what you'll do:

In this role you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team on field surveys including preliminary ecological appraisal, Phase 1 habitat surveys, other botanical surveys, ecological impact assessment and a range of protected species surveys.

From time to time, fieldwork is likely to require working away from home and some working at night when surveying.

In addition to field skills, good organization, research and planning skills are also required to support a team which works safely and to a high technical standard.

You'll also need to be able to work with a range of taxonomic groups, and you'll be encouraged to pursue your own interests.

Qualifications

• 2:1 degree and above (or equivalent) in Ecology or a subject with ecological component - Ecology, Environmental Biology, Zoology, Environmental Diagnosis and Management, Wildlife Conservation/Biodiversity, Conservation Biology and Resource Management, Species Identification and Surveying, Environmental Science/Consultancy, Environmental Management and Sustainability, Biological Science
• Keen interest and understanding of Irish wildlife
• Irish plant and animal (indirect and direct field signs) identification skills
• Excellent field skills
• Previous exposure to protected species surveys
• Ability to record data efficiently and methodically
• Strong Microsoft Office skills including Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

• Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject
• Proven experience of Fossitt habitat, IVC and botanical surveys
• Have held protected species licences, such as survey licences for bats

Role Responsibilities:

• Project Management and coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments, Appropriate Assessments, Planning Applications and other Environmental Reports.
• Undertaking discharge licence & waste permit applications.
• Provide expert technical assistance to the Consultancy department.
• Liaising with clients, managing their projects and promoting our services.
• Technical report writing.
• Finding solutions to environmental challenges on projects and delivering high quality outputs within specified deadlines.
• Coordinating project teams where required.
• Working as an integral member of the Environmental Team and actively participating with fellow professionals to expand the organisation.

Role Requirements:

• Hold a B.Sc., M.Sc. in a relevant environmental discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years similar experience, ideally in an environmental consultancy setting.
• Essential to have demonstrable experience in a similar role, fulfilling comparable duties and responsibilities as those mentioned above.
• Knowledge of environmental, planning and waste management legislation.
• Experience in EIA, and Appropriate Assessment is essential while experience in other environmental disciplines is desirable.
• A full clean driver's licence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Appropriate Assessments, Planning Applications, and other environmental reports.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a skilled and ambitious individual to join our Air Quality and Licensing team. This role involves delivering air quality and odour assessments, including air and odour dispersion modelling and air/ odour/ dust assessments for Environmental Impact Assessments. It also involves working on other aspects of projects, particularly climate change assessments. The role will be on a team working on impactful environmental projects that shape a sustainable future.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in any of our offices (Dublin, Cork and Tullamore). The work will be mostly office-based; however, occasional site visits will be required. A full driving licence is required.

Role Responsibilities

• Carry out air and odour dispersion modelling using AERMOD.
• Prepare air, odour and climate change chapters of Environmental Impact Assessments.
• Work on various aspects of Industrial Emissions and Air Pollution Licences, including applications for new licences, Technical Amendments, compliance management, etc.
• Provide clients and multidisciplinary teams with strategic advice and innovative solutions regarding stack emissions.
• Stay current with legislation, methodologies, and trends in air quality and odour assessment. Update template documents with relevant new AQS and similar.
• Learn new methodologies for assessment where required, prepare templates and train relevant team members
• Ensure use of appropriate modelling tools and resources for dispersion modelling
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success
• Support project budgeting, proposal development, and financial performance tracking
• Contribute to internal training, mentoring, and continuous professional development

Required experience and qualifications:

• Degree in Environmental Science or a similar relevant degree , or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in an environmental consultancy
• Air dispersion modelling using AERMOD – minimum 2 years of professional experience
• Excellent understanding of air quality principles and regulatory frameworks, such as;

Medium Combustion Plant Directive

BAT ELVs for emissions to air for various industries

The EPA's AG series Guidance

• Experience with EIARs or licensing processes
• Competence in compiling comprehensive technical reports and delivering high-quality findings and recommendations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical report writing
• Full Irish driving licence and eligibility to work in Ireland
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Teams, Excel, SharePoint)

Desired experience and qualifications:

• Master's degree in Environmental Science or a similar or related discipline
• Membership of a Professional Organisation.
• Project financial management .
• People management and mentoring experience.
