Job Summary:
The Electrical Design Engineer works as part of our Suretank Engineering team based in Dunleer/ Castlebellingham to support the design and manufacture of our products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of electrical circuits on tanks & modular units to specific customer requirements,
  • Ensuring that all engineering documentation created as part of tasks meet the requirements of internal procedures & strict timelines. This includes engineering drawings, BOMs, Calculations, Technical Specifications and other project deliverables,
  • Maintain and control engineering documentation for each contract as per the requirements of Suretank business and quality manuals. Liaise with customers to ensure that all contract requirements have been accurately documented and obeyed,
  • Ensure that design outputs comply with all relevant national and international design codes and standards.
  • Compile relevant documentation from vendors, contractors, and other departments for inclusion in protocols / reports.
  • Review and approve documents prepared by contractor organisations (e.g. vendor SAT's, FAT's, commissioning protocols, project change controls).
  • Provide technical support for production to ensure installations are to specification and code
  • Carry out electrical design calculations as required

Qualifications and Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will have an honours degree in Electrical Engineering,
  • 3-5 years' experience in and Electrical Design role within a commercial environment.
  • Previous exposure to or experience with electrical design (Layouts, schematics etc) using EPlan or similar is preferred.
  • CAD / Solidworks / Revit / SAP experience is an advantage.
  • Proven commercial awareness
  • Demonstrated pro- active, practical & flexible approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentational skills.
  • Necessity to travel to deployment locations

  • Familiar with utility tendering processes and full project lifecycles.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficiency in Eplan and AutoCAD 2D (desirable).

Role Overview

Davenham Switchgear Ltd, a Legrand group company are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our industry-leading Electrical Engineering team based in Clondalkin.

This is a fully onsite role, where you will collaborate with stakeholders to design and manage electrical switchgear assemblies. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the design of low-voltage switchgear products and should be proficient in AutoCAD. Experience with other design software is an advantage.

You will manage various projects from inception to completion, overseeing the design process or providing technical expertise on specialized projects. This role involves managing multiple projects concurrently, ensuring seamless project delivery and maintaining high client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design: Participate in all aspects of the electrical design process for switchgear control units, from concept to completion.
  • Develop: schematic designs, wiring diagrams and layout drawings using CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN) and ensure all designs meet company and national standards and safety regulations.
  • Project Management: Oversee the entire project lifecycle as the point of contact, including scope management, design approval, and ensuring timely deliveries. Coordinate with production teams to manage scope changes, project milestones, and client expectations. Attend vendor meetings and manage outsourced services (e.g., 3D/BIM modelling).
  • Team collaboration and client engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships, handling technical inquiries, project updates, and ensuring smooth handovers. Prepare for and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), supporting clients with test documentation and guidance through the FAT process.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Manage and submit all necessary documentation throughout the project, including as-built drawings, test certificates, warranty information, and final handover documents (H2C). Ensure proper handover documentation and O+M Manuals are uploaded to client systems on completion of each phase/project.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering in power systems is an added advantage
  • Minimum 2 - 4 years of post-graduate experience, ideally in LV switchgear design
  • Experience in producing drawings, calculations, and technical specifications
  • Familiarity with engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and industry standards
  • Effective time management skills to meet tight project deadlines
  • Certification in Project Management is an added advantage

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently
  • Strong communicator, capable of working in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrates initiative and a drive for achieving excellent results

Key Skills

  • AutoCAD (essential) or similar (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • MS Office Suite
  • Procore (experience is beneficial but not essential)
  • Strong proficiency in computer systems and effective file management
