The role
The Electronics Engineer will work in our Spirometry unit, to help drive continuous roadmap delivery. Spirometry is a common office test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale. Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect breathing.

The team

The Spirometry team consists of hardware, mechanical and software engineers and the Electronics Engineer will assist the team in developing and maintaining features for our spirometry devices.

The applicant must have a BSc/HNC/HND in electronics and and must have an existing Irish work permit. The laboratory is responsible for CE Marking, EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), electrical safety and radio testing of a wide range of commercial products from vehicles and medical devices to domestic products. We currently have a team of 15 engineers and are now looking to add an additional Product Compliance Engineer due to recent growth.

If you have previous experience of electronic testing with a good understanding of electronic principles and are interested in moving into the product compliance field then apply now for immediate consideration

This role requires good engineering ability to grasp the functioning of a wide range of customers equipment and identify appropriate test plans on a daily basis. You will work in a busy, modern test laboratory, testing electrical/electronic equipment and systems, whilst managing job progress through to completion of test reports

The Role

The role of Test Engineer will involve:

· After extensive training, the successful candidate will serve as a EMC test specialist on customer equipment.

· Performing testing and evaluation of electrical products to International Standards.

· Interpreting standards and evaluate products for product safety.

· Extensive customer liaison and require regular updates during the test process.

· Managing complex issues during the testing with the customer. During the test process the engineer will discuss solutions to problems rather than wait until the end of the test programme.

· Writing of all the test reports and feeding back issues post test to the client.

· Participation in new standards development – Cenelec, ETSI, IEC

The Person

To be successful as a Product Test Engineer you will need:

· Ability to understand the functioning of a wide range of product technologies

· This position requires a strong electrical background and understanding of electrical systems.

· Candidates possessing a background in maintenance and installation of electrical equipment will be considered.

· Degree level or equivalent desired, although not required.

· Experience in the radiofrequency technology is a plus, but will consider entry level position for the right person.

· Good understanding of electronic principles (power supply design, computing principles, interface circuits such as telecoms ports, ethernet and CAN bus, RS485 etc)

· Previous work experience working within the fields of electronics with a desire to get into product compliance testing.

Our Peripheral Intervention (PI) business unit offers a comprehensive range of medical products, devices and services for the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous disease, cancer detection, and end-stage renal disease and maintenance.
**About the role**
As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will be crucial in advancing both new and existing hardware development initiatives from feasibility concept through to implementation. This position focuses on the design, development, and testing of complex electronic systems, including analog and digital circuitry, PCB assemblies, and cable harnesses. You will lead circuit-level design activities such as architecture planning, component selection, schematic entry, and board bring-up, while ensuring seamless integration of hardware into broader system architectures. Your expertise in AC/DC and DC/DC converters, power management, and 3-phase AC systems will be essential in delivering robust and high-performance solutions. Additionally, you will support compliance with international standards (UL, IEC, FDA, CE/EMC) through rigorous testing and documentation, including EMC testing, ESD, transient, and radiated emissions evaluations.
Collaboration is central to this role, requiring close coordination with multi-functional teams in software, mechanical design, and systems engineering to align with project timelines and budgets. You will contribute to firmware development in embedded environments using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN, and collaborate with hardware peripherals, including sensors and motor drivers. Proficiency in electrical drawing tools like SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical is expected, along with a strong understanding of design validation processes, including FMEA, technical reviews, and test protocol execution. Your contributions will directly impact the delivery of innovative, compliant, and high-quality products that advance the world of health.
**Main responsibilities will include:**
+ Actively participate in the new and existing product development efforts from concepts to implementation
+ Drive circuit level hardware design phases including architecture and design, component selection, schematic entry, board bring-up and integration of complex printed circuit board and cable assemblies into systems/instruments.
+ Experience of EMC testing including Immunity Testing, Capacitive Voltage Emissions, Current Probe Emissions, ESD Testing, Transient Testing, Radiated Emissions Testing
+ Cable harness, power management, 3 phase AC systems
+ Experience in AC/DC, DC/DC convertors.
+ Experience developing firmware using Communication protocols - I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, etc in an embedded environment.
+ Effectively work with cross-functional teams, including software, mechanical design and system engineering, aligning with the schedule and budget of the project through different phases of the product lifecycle.
+ Have experience with the interfacing of hardware peripherals like sensors, motor drivers, etc
+ Have experience with electrical drawings packages like SolidWorks Electrical, Eplan, AutoCAD Electrical, etc
+ Support project teams in general activities related to ongoing product design & development.
+ Evaluate and implements designs to ensure that all agency requirements (UL,IEC, FDA) are being met throughout the design process.
+ Apply tools like FMEA to determine and document root cause of product's system or component failure.
+ Generate design specifications, test protocols, execute testing and associated test reports.
+ Participate in technical design reviews to ensure electrical design integrity and safety are achieved.
+ Develop and implement test procedures to verify design operation and compliance to international standards e.g. CE/EMC.

**About you**
+ Hold a Level 8 Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience as an Electronics Engineer, testing circuit components.
+ Strong digital and analog circuit design background that includes: microprocessors, analog circuitry for theoretical analysis, circuit level, board level simulation, and experience with building blocks for modular systems, Labview, and strong design skills and tools for schematic capture, board layout, and simulation are all advantages.
+ PCB design and integration
+ EMC testing (Immunity, Emissions, ESD, Transient, Radiated)
+ Power systems: AC/DC, DC/DC converters, 3-phase AC

You will be part of the team involved in the design and manufacturing of Medical Device Instruments. You will be working on complex medical device instruments including immunoassay, chemistry, and hematology to serve the needs of laboratories of any size – today and tomorrow.

The successful candidate will work on instruments that use multiple technologies to deliver patient results. This involves mechanical, electronic, software, fluidics, and chemistry. Involving various sub-assemblies that for example, aspirate patient samples, complete mixing operations, store reagent and complete all handling operations of samples around different parts of the instrument. You will gain experience across different technologies and how they integrate.

The Critical Skills Required.

  • An energetic Electrical Electronic Graduate Engineer willing to learn
  • A good background knowledge of electromechanical systems
  • Has some basic software experience (C, C#, python)
  • Has knowledge of motion control (Servo, Steppers)
  • Good electronic knowledge (analog, digital and microcontrollers)
  • Hardware debugging using oscilloscopes/ logic analysers and multimeters
  • Experience of simulation and modelling – SPICE, LT spice or similar tools

Electronic Hardware Engineer
As an Electronic Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing Sonova's engineering capabilities through the introduction of new technologies and world-class practices.   • Support the manufacturing operation through new technology introduction, training, process optimization, and cost-saving initiatives
  • Provide specialist electronic and problem-solving support for production, including amplifier testing, UCT issues, and other hardware components
  • Design, develop, and refine test equipment and processes, defining user requirements and translating them into technical specifications
  • Source or manufacture test equipment and infrastructure as required
  • Develop electronic hardware modules using CAD tools and maintain all associated documentation and technical reports
  • Manage the implementation of test platform upgrades and support CE certification processes
  • Train colleagues on test and acoustic equipment and maintain spare part inventories

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering with a minimum of 1 year of full-time industrial experience in the development and manufacture of electronic test equipment
  • Experience using PCB design software (e.g., Eagle) from design to integration
  • Knowledge of EMC-sensitive design and CE marking requirements
  • Skilled in CAD tools and familiar with fabrication techniques such as cutting, drilling, and milling
  • Experience with documentation control and calibration of measurement equipment is desirable
