Unijobs on behalf of the HSE are currently recruiting for the position of Medical Technician. The contract is on a month to month basis. Please read the full description & qualifications required. Hours are on an Ad-Hoc basis. Hours will be across any of the 7 days. The hourly rate of pay is based on HCA salary in line with HSE salary scale. *This position is subject to Garda Vetting and Foreign Police Clearance, if applicable you will be required to obtain these prior to commencing in this role. Vaccinations will need to be up to date, with proof of same, prior to commencing in the role* Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (Please read carefully) To collect venous blood samples throughout the Hospital in order to provide a peripheral IV cannulation, phlebotomy and electro cardiography service which meets the needs of inpatients and outpatients in accordance with hospital guidelines, policies and procedures. Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation Perform Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation as requested by medical staff in accordance with the IV cannulation and associated policies. Be competent in the selection of the appropriate Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation and other equipment, secure Cannula safely, date label and document. Venepuncture. Obtain blood specimens as requested by medical staff in accordance with the Venepuncture and associated policies. Be competent in the selection of the appropriate sample bottles, safety needles and other equipment for all common laboratory investigations as described in the laboratory user manual maintaining a closed system at all times. Electro Cardiography Be competent to perform an Electro Cardiography tracing for all procedures Interact with patients to obtain and verify information for laboratory records. Identify patient by verifying Name, Date of Birth and Hospital Number /or address in outpatient setting before proceeding. Explain procedures, allay fears and elicit co-operation and consent. Ensure patient dignity is protected at all times. Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained in line with data protection policy. Ensure that documentation is concise, accurate and in accordance with requirements of service in UL Hospitals. Provide aftercare and assistance to patients affected by procedures. Report any defective equipment. Clean specified equipment in accordance with infection control and local cleaning policies. Maintain basic level of IT skills. Participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives. Candidates must have: Professional Qualifications & Experience, etc. a) Or Possess the Certificate recognised by the HSE in Phlebotomy , IV Peripheral Cannulation and Electro Cardiography Or Be registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hEireann). Or Be minimum a 2nd year Medical Student having completed relevant clinical skills of Phlebotomy and Cannulation. And b) Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, scientific, technical and administrative capacity to fulfil the functions of the role. Annual Registration for Nurses only Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the general division of the Nurses & Midwives Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hEireann). And Nurse/Midwife Phlebotomists must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC) Candidates must: Demonstrate professional and clinical knowledge and skills in line with the requirements of the post, including an awareness of pathology lab tests and safety issues. Demonstrate commitment to providing a quality service and a patient centred focus. Demonstrate planning and organising skills, including the ability to work flexibly and under pressure. Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships including the ability to work within a team. Demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrate excellent communication skills including sufficient command of the English language as to effectively carry out your role. Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills including the ability to empathise with and treat patients and colleagues with dignity and respect.
