Purpose

Advises and guides the company and demonstrates leadership on EHS matters to ensure the safety and health of the workforce, and the protection of the environment. Ensures the company is aware of, and complies with applicable environmental, health and safety legislative and other requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and improve the Health and Safety Management System. Participate in audits of the Management System on a scheduled basis.

  • Investigates, prepares, communicates and manages reports on incidents, injuries, ill-health, and corrective actions as required.
  • Conducts risk assessments including ergonomic evaluations.
  • Maintains and updates SDS's and chemical inventories.
  • Supports and contributes to the site's life safety programs to include emergency response.
  • Understands and proactively follow through on the Health and Safety Management Procedures that have been identified as relevant to position.

Overview of role:

To support the staff health and safety programme, UPMC Aut Even are looking for a dynamic candidate for the role of Occupational Health Nurse (OHN). The OHN will have day-to-day responsibility for nurse lead pre-employment medicals, health surveillance, immunisations, and health promotion initiatives. They also work collaboratively with Occupational Physicians managing pre-employment healthcare screening and fitness to work reviews. The position holder will also develop and lead a company Wellbeing Programme. This position is part-time, permanent and is based on-site at UPMC Aut Even Hospital.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Manage the occupational health service for UPMC Aut Even employees to a high professional standard using an evidence-based approach and strategic planning.
  • Review Pre-Employment Medical Reports and liaise with occupational physicians on any follow up requirements.
  • Carry out health assessments of employees to ascertain their fitness, advise on adaptations, identify higher risk individuals and those who will be working with occupational hazards providing a plan of care considering the individual needs and their roles and responsibilities within their roles.
  • Provide advice and management on any adaptations that may be required based on the risk assessment provided.
  • Identify higher risk individuals who may be more vulnerable to occupational health hazards, such as pregnant staff, and carry out risk assessment, providing recommendations incorporating legislative guidelines.
  • Maintaining a high standard of recording of assessments and treatments including outcomes in complete confidence. Maintaining accurate departmental manual and computerized records.
  • Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics, and legislation.
  • Liaise with the Director of Nursing, Infection Control, Quality Manager, and other Managers where necessary to ensure a high standard of occupational health care for staff at all times.

Organisational / Advisory

  • Ensuring the health and safety policy is adhered to.
  • Ensure that procedures are in place for keeping records of all referrals to occupational health issues.
  • Ensure professional standards in respect of confidentiality and security are observed.

Education and Training

  • Participate in the identification, development, and delivery of induction programmes to health service employees.
  • Engage in performance review processes including personal development planning as appropriate.
  • With appropriate functions, develop and implement employee health & well-being programmes.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programmes appropriate to OHS.

Health & Safety

  • Provide input into the development and evaluation of health & safety procedures, emergency procedures to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Assist in observing and ensuring implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection control.
  • Ensure completion of incident / near miss forms / clinical risk reporting.
  • Adhere to department policies for the maintenance and safety of any equipment supplied for the fulfilment of duty.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Be registered in the General division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • A minimum of five years of practical experience, three of which are in occupational health.

These vessel diseases can lead to heart attack, stroke, critical limb ischemia and other serious vascular conditions.
**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
Under the Supervision of the site EHS Manager, assist and support the maintenance of an effective EHS management system that complies with legislative requirements, Abbott technical and management standards. Provide day to day support as an EHS Team member fostering safety and occupational health awareness on site and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Provide day to day support for Occupational Health, safety and environmental department including database entry, metrics management, equipment calibrations, 5s, co-ordination of site occupational health and safety communication processes, site recognition processes and co-ordination of occupational health, safety and environmental related training activities.
+ Support implementation of continuous improvement actions that align with strategic focus and audit readiness.
+ Support standard work activities ensuring continuous compliance to Corporate and technical standard requirements.Identify and manage improvement activities as required.
+ Act as Abbott Clonmel representative at Abbott Ireland wellness forums.Oversee management and execution of wellness events on site including external reporting requirements.
+ Oversee and improve occupational health initiatives on site including the development of a framework for occupational health standard activities, the site ergonomic stretch programme, the site gym and fitness programme and the annual flu vaccination programme.
+ Co-ordinate environmental monitoring in line with the site monitoring plan.
+ Leverage technical expertise to collaborate with functional support teams providing advice and consultation on all occupational health, safety and environmental elements.
+ Support completion of area risk assessments in line with the site risk reduction programme.
**EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES**
+ National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline. Relevant work experience advantageous but not essential or an equivalent combination of education and workexperience.
+ Working knowledge and application of business concepts, procedures and practices. Will perform this job in a quality system environment.Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
+ Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has a general knowledge of technical alternatives and an understanding of their impact on the systems environment.
+ Cultivates a wide range of internal networks and begins to develop anexternal network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks.May demonstrate basic project management skills by acting as a project lead on small, well defined projects.Provides guidance to less experienced staff. Influence exerted at peer level and occasionally at first levels of management.

We are currently recruiting an Occupational Health Nurse for a growing team on behalf of one of Irelands leading Occupational Health Providers based in Clondalkin, Dublin .

This is a Full Time Permanent position working 39 hours per week Monday Friday during office hours in a pharmaceutical setting.

You will work in a Big team .

Hourly rate is between 28 to 32 per hour depending on experience. There is no option to work from home.

  • Have a recognised Occupational Health qualification Essential
