Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Team in Dublin, Ireland.
Key job responsibilities
As a Civil Engineer you are responsible for;
- Working with the other design and engineering professionals on concepts and build projects.
- Creating, reviewing and releasing data center Civil Engineering designs.
- Managing the portfolio of data center designs and features.
- Development and maintenance of CSA Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for civil engineering systems.
- Serve as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects including; review of civil engineering designs such as roads, drainage, civil site works, bulk earthworks, cut/fill analysis, retaining walls; evaluating civil engineering design options, and assessing civil engineering calculation assumptions.
- Evaluating reports and creating scope for geotechnical investigation testing
- Creating, reviewing and releasing civil engineering design Requests For Pricing.
- Manage our external design consultants.
- Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
- Work on multiple data center build and capital investment projects simultaneously.
- Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
- Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

Basic Qualifications
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Chartered Engineer in Ireland or equivalent overseas accreditation.
- 6-8 years of experience in civil engineering design for industrial, warehouse, or commercial projects.
- Detailed understanding of all aspects of civil engineering including but not limited to; roads design, drainage systems, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, slope stability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in civil engineering.
- Experience managing a team of designers to deliver packages to milestone dates
- Experience across disciplines such as structural, architectural, environmental engineering
- 5+ years of experience directly related to DC or mission critical facility design.

- Prepare conceptual site master plan designs based on information available from the due diligence site assessments
- Establish capital project design budgets for existing region and new region deployment.
- Collaborating with AWS finance teams to prepare funding applications and secure funding
- Develop design and permitting schedule for the project based on AWS standard design periods and local permitting requirements
- Partnering and communicating with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables
- Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule project engineering resources and Create, review and release RFPs for engagement of external design vendor, including review bids and make recommendations
- As CSA Design lead on Data Centre projects will Manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process ensuring high standards of deliverables complete on schedule.
- Co-ordinate and manage the input of internal structural, architectural and civil engineers during design and at design deliverable review
- Co-ordinate and manage the input of permitting lead
- Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Fire and Cabling design engineers;
- Influence and manage deviations to the AWS reference design based on localisation and site specific and internal customer needs
- Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design
- Collecting data from operations, construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
- Create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction;
- Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions during design and during the construction to comply with local regulations and reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering & 5 years working experience with 3 years experience in design of industrial or mission critical facilities
- Experience co-ordinating design with MEP engineering disciplines and the design co-ordination required with MEP on industrial facilities.
- Expertise in creating, reviewing and approving C, S or A designs and documentation.

Basic Qualifications
- Degree in an Electrical Engineering plus a cumulative of experience with power systems and mission critical electrical design.
- Excellent understanding of the European Electrical Codes coupled with detailed understanding of critical LV, MV and HV electrical equipment.

Our client is a successful flue system design, manufacture and installation business operating domestically and internationally. Due to the continued growth of its Data Centre business it wishes to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer to head up and manage its design team. Working closely with the manufacturing and installation teams the successful candidate will help tender, design and install flue systems in a range of industrial and commercial projects throughout Ireland and on the continent. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of steelwork fabrication, be comfortable with a range of design tools and packages such as CAD and Revit and have experience of working both on site and as a member of multi-disciplinary teams. Successful candidates are likely to have the following attributes, skills and experience, Relevant third level mechanical /engineering qualification, together with appropriate CPD. A minimum of 5-7 years' post qualification experience. Management experience with small teams and in a multi-disciplinary environment. Detailed Knowledge and experience of a contracting environment. Ability and experience of working both individually and as part of a multi-functional team. Experience and skills in AutoCAD 2D and 3D packages (Revit, Navisworks). In this role you will influence water chemistry and treatment, coordinating with design engineering colleagues, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers. This includes on site and large campus water systems. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the various water treatment features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance-based design approaches. As an Owner, you will strive to ensure the water treatment features of our buildings protect our people and keep our customer's data safe and uninterrupted over the life of the building. We expect you to contribute your expertise to the continual improvement of our water system design standards.
Primary responsibilities will be to perform and oversee project-related work, such as water supply analysis and design for buildings, including coordination with utilities and internal water teams to establish basic site infrastructure requirements. The ability to coordinate mechanical system space requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations, and to provide detailed construction specifications for water treatment systems. You will typically be responsible for the preparation of detailed designs for hydronic systems. You will review all design disciplines to ensure they meet the code requirements described in our design standards. In some cases, you will oversee and review this work and in other cases you will perform the work yourself.
As the team's subject matter expert, you will ensure that contractors have the information they need to build our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of this role you will work with internal and external stakeholders, including design engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, and other service providers, as well as local building and fire officials. - Driving improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization.
- Work with third party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Be responsible for providing high quality water treatment advice on a wide variety of projects globally while working with global Mechanical engineering teams to achieve alignment of water treatment systems objectives.
- Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
- Be responsible for code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review. Meet with AHJs as needed to ensure approval of water treatement features.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to Chemical/Process and/or Mechanical engineering degree in a related field with at least 10 years additional qualifying experience.
- Cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to water quality and chemical treatment
- Have experience in production of site and campus water mass balances (supply and discharge management) to inform other DCE stakeholders on the Basis of Design for water infrastructure, chemical treatment processes and compliance needs relating to water with a strong understanding in water treatment design solutions and scaling
- Experience applying local water laws and codes, International Code Council (ICC) requirements, and other water treatment industry standards, procedures, and methodologies
- Experience with processes of design review, specification, development of design standards, and submittal review including ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience directly related to process design, construction and maintenance of water systems within water treatment scope, ideally relating to application in industrial conditions, manufacturing, critical medical infrastructure, industrial, construction, or oil and gas.
- Technical experience of a range of treatment technologies including water softening, multi-media-filtration, pH correction, membrane-based treatment, disinfection (UV, AOP, Ozone),
- Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive water treatment design.

Key job responsibilities
- Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support our data centres.
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
- Participate in site selection reviews
- Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data center designs
- Manage change, versioning and configuration control.
- Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
- Define and approval of project scopes, request for proposals (RFP) and request for information (RFI).
- Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
- Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
- Travel for site review and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches
- Review and approve equipment submittals
- Work with internal teams to trouble shoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design related problems
- Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases
- Work with regional vendors and manufactures to specify the appropriate mechanical equipment.

A day in the life
Engineers will be responsible for innovation, design and leading design consultants for new AWS regions projects by delivering designs from concept to the permit and construction document set. You must be capable of defining critical equipment specifications and approving equipment submittals. Engineers will directly support construction and be a part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover. Basic Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission critical air and water cooling HVAC design
- Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.
- The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high level review.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer with Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design such as Pharmaceutical, Hospital or Semi-Conductor projects. Understanding of BIM & CFD modelling
- Previous consultant negotiation and management skills associated with design, construction and project execution.
- Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.
- Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. Knowledge of building codes and regulations.

You will be a part of the global BIM technology team responsible for implementing, managing, and adopting new BIM technologies and systems to support the design, construction, and operation of Amazon-owned data center facilities.
You will be responsible for administering and implementing new BIM systems. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of such tools and propose process improvements. You will work with BIM stakeholders to collect requirements and coordinate development with the engineering team.
Key job responsibilities
You must be able to work independently and with your team to complete tasks on time and without error. This includes working with internal teams as well as external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Your will:
- Administer BIM Common Data Environments, such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (former BIM 360), and other technology solutions.

- Evangelize, educate, and support primary design technology applications.

- Coordinate information management, smart object metadata and classification codes with asset information databases.
- Perform BIM data QA/QC and analysis.
