The Role

As an Environmental Compliance Officer, you'll play a vital role in
enforcing waste legislation
and
investigating illegal activity
. This role is both investigative and operational, with no two days alike. From carrying out inspections and audits to conducting surveillance and presenting evidence in court, you'll be at the forefront of protecting the environment and ensuring compliance.

You'll work closely with enforcement partners, including Local Authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency, An Garda Síochána, and Customs & Revenue Service, helping to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and report on illegal waste activity.
  • Inspect and audit waste producers, facilities, collection permit holders, and waste in transit.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret data on waste activities.
  • Conduct surveillance (overt and covert) when required.
  • Prepare detailed reports, maintain case files, and update management systems.
  • Provide evidence in court proceedings when necessary.
  • Collaborate with enforcement partners to strengthen compliance efforts.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone with
at least 3 years' proven experience in either waste management, investigations, enforcement, or compliance-related roles
. Alongside this, you'll bring strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to represent findings in formal settings.

Ideally, you have:

  • A degree in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent NVQ Level 8 qualification).
  • At least 3+ years' relevant professional experience (waste management, investigations, enforcement, or compliance).
  • A full, clean driver's licence (Category B minimum).
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Environmental Compliance Officer - Based in Dundalk, Co Louth

Working as part of the Environmental Compliance and Planning team on day-to-day basis dealing with matters relating to a number of waste management facilities that the company has in operation throughout the country along with all the environmental, compliance with national and EU Environmental legislation;

The successful candidate will be involved with the following:

  • Ensuring compliance with Waste Licences issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in Dundalk. You will also service the Cavan EPA licence & Drogheda Facility, reporting back to the Compliance department in Ballymount.
  • Implementing EHS policies and procedures across the Group to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines;
  • Carrying out internal and external audits of the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 and Quality Management System ISO 9001;
  • Managing the Waste Collection Permit issued by the National Waste Collection Permit Office (NWCPO), submitting permit review application, attending site audits, ensuring compliance with permit conditions, developing and reviewing procedures, updating Vehicle Management System (VMS), liaising with the NWCPO;
  • Supporting Environmental Consultants in the development of Environmental Liability Risk Assessment (ELRA), Closure Plan (CP) and Firewater Risk Assessments (FWRA) in alignment with the EPA licence conditions;
  • Managing the Environmental Monitoring Contractor, scheduling all sites monitoring in accordance with Licence/Permit requirements, analysing report results to comply with Environmental Limit Values (ELV), communicating with facility managers and arranging collection/testing when necessary;
  • Facilitating Site Inspections by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and Local Authorities
  • Managing all sites on the EPA Web Portal (EDEN) and
  • Liaising with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Local Authorities;
  • Updating AutoCAD drawings for planning applications, waste storage plans and site layout plans following new projects, regulations and guidelines;
  • Providing reports and statistics to customers and also preparing internal reports for the management team.

Requirements;

  • Must have an IE driving licence (Category B) and own car
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other MS Office products
  • Environmental/Environmental Engineering qualification essential
  • Experience with AutoCAD beneficial

The ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST will;

Working as a Graduate in our Environmental Management Assessment teams will mean working on innovative projects, exploring and learning about the numerous facets of the requirements for Environmental Impact Assessment. You will be working on projects across a broad range of clients, sectors and scales.

Our Environmental Management Assessment Teams:
Environmental Management
As a Graduate working in this team, you will assist in providing advice and support to clients, at each stage of the consenting process, through inception, optioneering, design, planning, construction and operation for infrastructure and development of all sizes and sectors.

Our Experts assess the social and environmental risks and impacts, devise solutions that address these impacts. You will be embedded in multidisciplinary teams and mentored by experienced Consultants, gaining exposure to real-word challenges and innovative solutions.

Day-to-day activities could include:

  • Performing professional-level tasks that contribute to project and service line goals.
  • You may be involved in creating content (for marketing), developing Project profiles, analysing competitor strategies, or presenting information to build your confidence and provide a range of experiences.
  • You may be required to collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively (both written and verbal), and potentially manage your own time and projects.

Graduates joining our 2026 intake, could be involved in projects such as: Heathrow Airport, The Great grid upgrade, Sizewell C permits and consents and East Western Rail.

Environmental Consents – Project Management
We a looking to recruit Graduate Environmental Project Manager's to join our growing Environmental Project Management team to play a key role in multi-disciplinary environmental projects, supporting the Project Manager and Technical Lead to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget in a friendly and supportive environment.

Day-to-day activities could include:

  • Assisting the Project Manager in developing project management documentation including project. management plans, cost estimates and forecasts, risk registers, project schedules and stakeholder registers.
  • Scheduling meetings, taking minutes and tracking actions.
  • Monitoring project schedules and tracking progress.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary environmental project teams consisting of technical/professional staff and suppliers.
  • Assisting in the administration of supplier contracts.
  • Preparing invoices and tracking project spend.
  • Undertaking information management activities such as working in Common Data Environments.
