Manager, Software Engineering - Financial Crime Solutions (Crypto)
Overview
---
Are you passionate about people and motivated by building teams that love what they do? Do you lead with empathy, integrity, and a desire to create real impact through strong collaboration?
This is a unique opportunity to lead a talented software engineering team working on Crypto Secure - a powerful risk assessment platform helping Mastercard issuers gain greater visibility into their crypto spend, transaction volumes, and AML risk exposure.
As Software Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with Product, Data Engineering, and technical leadership to evolve our ways of working, strengthen team culture, and ensure strong alignment between business goals and engineering execution. You'll wear many hats - mentor, coach, delivery leader, sounding board - and play a key role in how the team grows and succeeds together.
Role
---
Lead People & Delivery
- Provide clear, dependable leadership across multiple software squads.
- Translate business and product goals into actionable team-level plans.
- Balance accountability with empathy - knowing when to push, and when to give space.
- Foster psychological safety and create an environment where people feel empowered, trusted, and motivated to do their best work.
- Champion transparency, open communication, with a focus on impact and delivering outcomes.
Grow & Support the Team
- Actively support engineers through regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship.
- Help team members identify career goals and work with them to shape a path toward growth - technical, leadership, or otherwise.
- Promote a culture of curiosity, inclusion, and continuous learning.
- Use your engineering background to offer guidance when needed, while empowering autonomy and ownership.
- Lead hiring efforts to build and retain a high-performing, diverse team.
Collaborate Across Functions
- Partner with Product, Data Engineering, QA, and others to align priorities and remove blockers.
- Encourage cross-squad collaboration while preserving developer focus and reducing context switching.
- Drive consistency in delivery practices through shared rituals - planning, retros, standups, desk checks.
- Maintain visibility of squad health, capacity, and delivery status - sharing clear signals of progress and risk.
Drive Operational & Delivery Excellence
- Champion best practices across CI/CD, automation, observability, security, and performance.
- Evolve our internal operating model through feedback and experimentation.
- Promote a value-delivery focused approach to estimation, planning, and execution.
- Reinforce the importance of metrics - using them not just to report, but to learn, adapt, and improve.
All About You
---
Leadership & Collaboration
- Proven experience managing engineering teams, ideally in an agile setup.
- Strong communicator who builds trust across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable navigating delivery across multiple workstreams, teams, or stakeholder groups.
- Familiar with frameworks like SAFe, and with driving clarity in complex environments.
Engineering & Delivery Expertise
- Solid grounding in modern SDLC practices, including agile, DevOps, and CI/CD.
- Experience with full-stack technologies like Java, Spring Boot, React, and Postgres.
- Familiar with secure development, accessibility, and performance optimisation in cloud environments.
Mindset & Approach
- People-first leader who values team health as much as delivery outcomes.
- Adaptable and pragmatic - focused on finding the best path forward in changing conditions.
- Passionate about building inclusive, high-performing teams where people feel safe, supported, and excited to grow.
Why You'll Love This Role
---
- Lead a brilliant team delivering a meaningful product in the crypto security space.
- Help people grow with confidence and purpose - through mentorship, opportunity, and clarity.
- Partner with experienced software and data leaders on real-world problems that matter.
- Help shape how we build - with a strong voice in improving our engineering culture and delivery model.
- Be part of a company where your leadership makes a difference.
