Our client is seeking applications for the position of Consultant Geriatrician to join their dynamic and multidisciplinary team.
The Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine will jointly lead the MASS service and provide clinical oversight for the service with the 0.5WTE Consultant in Psychiatry for Later Life and in conjunction with the local governance group on implementation of service re-design for persons with dementia and suspected dementia in Longford/Westmeath such that key objectives under the National Dementia Model of Care, are delivered.
This post will establish a new Consultant led specialist Memory Assessment and Support Service for patients with cognitive concerns. This is a key part of the National Dementia Model of Care, as well as the National Clinical Programme for Older Persons (NCPOP) whilst adhering to Slaintecare principles.
The post will enhance patient pathways between ICPOP and other ECC speciality services – Respiratory; Cardiology and Endocrine / Diabetes. The inpatient service will benefit from enhanced delirium and dementia care with improved links to MASS and Community Health Networks/Primary Care to facilitate early discharge of patients with delirium and dementia.
- Registration as a specialist in Geriatric Medicine on the Irish Medical Council (IMC) Specialist Register.
Candidates not yet on the Specialist Register but eligible within 6 months may be considered. - Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of complex older patients.
- Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary and cross-sector teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- The Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine should have experience in the diagnosis, subtyping and management of cognitive disorders/dementia.
