The Opportunity

We currently have a requirement for a Project Engineer to join our Roads team in Ireland.

The successful candidate will work within the Transport Infrastructure team delivering a range of rural and urban design projects including major TII road projects, Minor TII road improvement projects, as well as urban street design incorporating Public Transport and Active Travel and Greenway projects. The successful candidate will gain invaluable experience within an established consultancy with flexible working options between home and office. They will be involved in a diverse and challenging range of projects for high profile clients within Ireland and further afield. This role also offers the successful candidate long-term opportunities for career development.

A role in the Highways team will include opportunities to input into design and coordination, often liaising with other multi-disciplinary contributors to projects. You will be required to deliver projects to the required technical standards in a timely manner, reporting to the team leader or project manager as appropriate. You will have experience in planning and design of road schemes including feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, statutory processes, preparation of contract documents, contact administration and construction supervision.

As a Highways Project Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Prepare technical designs for projects in accordance with approved design standards and procedures in line with the delivery programme.
  • Undertake research to inform updates to existing and the development of new national design standards and policy.
  • Ensure that relevant legislation, regulations, policies, strategies, and technical guidance is interpreted, followed and communicated across the team with guidance from senior members of staff.
  • Implement the appropriate QA procedures for all deliverables and ensure compliance with H&S requirements; and
  • Communicate effectively and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of individuals. This would typically include but is not limited to; roads and streets team colleagues andproject managers, other internal design disciplines, clients and contractors.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about Transport Infrastructure with a level 8 degree in Civil Engineering or similar.

We also value:

  • 3-5 years post graduate experience, preferably in a consultancy environment.
  • Working towards chartered professional status.
  • Technical Report writing.
  • Working knowledge of Road Design Aspects (Geometric/ Drainage/ TSRM/ Pavement etc.)
  • AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively manage your time and deliver projects in a timely manner.
  • Geometric Design experience (Open Roads Designer, Civil 3D or equivalent).
  • Drainage Design (MicroDrainage or similar).
  • TII Publications (Standards and Technical).
  • Traffic signs and road markings (Traffic Signs Manual).
  • Vehicle Restraint Systems.
  • ArcMap GIS.
  • Road Safety Audits.

Harrington Civil Engineering have an exciting opportunity to join our growing company, and we are now hiring for a Site Engineer to join our team. This is a six month Fixed Term contract of employment for an immediate start. Key objective: Site Engineer required for civil engineering construction contracts. Ideally, the candidate should have minimum 2-5 years relevant experience on Civils/Drainage/Roads/Earthworks projects. The candidate should have experience in setting out, using GPS Systems, Total Stations, and be proficient with the use of AutoCAD software. Principal Duties Ensure Compliance with current Irish Health & Safety Regulations and with company health & safety policy on site. Oversee quality control onsite for all aspects of the works Assist in the supervision and monitoring all aspects of the works on site on a daily basis. Setting out all elements of works Maintaining daily site records and testing records. Assist in the updating the works programme. Supervising sub-contractors works on site. Liaising with clients and their representatives, including attending regular progress update meetings Effectively and efficiently organising site facilities in order to meet agreed deadlines Resolving any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise. Skills/Experience Relevant experience in pipeline, earthworks and roads Have at least 2 years post graduate relevant experience on site. Proven track record as a Setting Out Engineer on road engineering projects within the last 12 months. Proficient in use of setting out equipment - GPS, Total Station, Dumpy levels Experience working with AutoCAD Able to communicate and be fluent in English (Written and Spoken) Must be able to work on own initiative and part of a team. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Team in Dublin, Ireland.
Key job responsibilities
As a Civil Engineer you are responsible for;
- Working with the other design and engineering professionals on concepts and build projects.
- Creating, reviewing and releasing data center Civil Engineering designs.
- Managing the portfolio of data center designs and features.
- Development and maintenance of CSA Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for civil engineering systems.
- Serve as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects including; review of civil engineering designs such as roads, drainage, civil site works, bulk earthworks, cut/fill analysis, retaining walls; evaluating civil engineering design options, and assessing civil engineering calculation assumptions.
- Evaluating reports and creating scope for geotechnical investigation testing
- Creating, reviewing and releasing civil engineering design Requests For Pricing.
- Manage our external design consultants.
- Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
- Work on multiple data center build and capital investment projects simultaneously.
- Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
- Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Perform and present business case analysis.
- Solid working proficient with civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.

As a Data Centre (DC) Civil Engineer at AWS, you will lead designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. As a DC Civil Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for Civil Engineering design requirements.

Basic Qualifications
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Chartered Engineer in Ireland or equivalent overseas accreditation.
- 6-8 years of experience in civil engineering design for industrial, warehouse, or commercial projects.
- Detailed understanding of all aspects of civil engineering including but not limited to; roads design, drainage systems, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, slope stability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in civil engineering.
- Experience managing a team of designers to deliver packages to milestone dates
- Experience across disciplines such as structural, architectural, environmental engineering
- 5+ years of experience directly related to DC or mission critical facility design.
- Detailed understanding of building construction, forensic analysis of building design and construction defects, and evaluating value engineering for building super structure.
- Basic understanding of large scale mechanical and electrical system components and designs. - Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of DCs.
