The Data Center Global Services team is looking for a Controls Engineer for Construction (BMS/EPMS), responsible for the building automation systems within Amazon data centers to join our EMEA team. If you are passionate about the customer experience, think and act globally and have the ability to contribute to major new innovations in the area of building controls and automation this is the challenge you are looking for!
Our Control Engineers technical background across project/construction management, mechanical, electrical or technology background enable them to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms to strategically align building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business. They work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.
Controls Engineers in AWS deploys , maintains BMS(Building Management System) & EPMS(Electrical Power Monitoring System) across our leased/colocation data centers.
They co-ordinate with AWS DCEO( Data Center Engineering Operations) teams to implement new builds, upgrades etc and ensures high availability and high resiliency of these control systems.
Key job responsibilities
Your role responsibilities:
Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
Manage scopes of work relative to the site specifics and customer needs.
Manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.
Read and interpret specifications and implement those specifications as they apply the work environment.
Develop control panel BOM's
Develop ISA data sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters along with ISA data sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical, and various other types of instrumentation.
Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.
Develop logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System.
Prepare cable, routing plans and schedules.
Perform inspections, testing, and commission of the facility systems.
Provide technical assistance as needed to internal customers.
Coordinate project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
Travel domestically and internationally to support other regions
A day in the life
Controls Engineer's day may begin with deployment efforts including on-site site management works , directing Controls vendors for installation / commissioing works and is responsible for quality and on time delivery of the tasks / project. While managing service works, CE will co-ordinate with Operations teams for permits and engages Vendor or performs services confirming to the task lists.

Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or other related engineering degrees
- Minimum Three (3) years in BMS or EPMS Controls related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Have an understanding of: electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams, preferably in a Controls, Mechanical or electrical construction environment
- Experience as a Controls Engineering Specialist
- Minimum 3 years of field service experience preferably with the following products: Siemens: Apogee Honeywell: Building Controls/Trend Schneider Electric: PowerLogic/Struxureware Power User Level Windows Skill Set. Your day-to-day will include but not be limited to the following tasks and responsibilities.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Provide best practice Project Controls expertise and service across the programme incorporating cost management, project scheduling, reporting and risk management
+ Facilitate programme controls meetings to engage the design consultants, the Contracting Entity's staff and contractors to align on expectations, optimize schedule, cost & risk performance and drive consistency in programme controls methodology.
+ Monitor and report on all projects within the programme (from promotion through to project completion), and relay cost, time and risk information to the programme director to facilitate strategic decisions.
+ Recruit and mentor a high-performing team of Project Controls professionals while ensuring the right level of resources are retained for optimum delivery.
+ Coordinate reporting with programme controls office in central functions
+ Take a proactive approach to the implementation of relevant business systems and processes to enhance the efficiency of the programmes performance
+ Work with the Head of Programme Controls to ensure the implementation of new key process changes and interventions
**Cost Management**
+ Direct, support and performance manage the cost managers in implementing and utilising the contracting entity's cost procedures, tools and processes to the highest standards to allow for effective monitoring and control.
+ Develop key objectives and the strategic direction of the Cost Management function including processes, procedures, systems and resources
+ Oversee all weekly and monthly cost reporting across the programme
+ Chair Monthly Project Reviews to ensure that all major projects are being managed effectively from a cost, time and risk management perspective
+ Provide support, advice and expertise to the contracts and commercial manager in relation to contentious claims and disputes that may arise on construction and consultancy contracts Maintain a database of benchmarked costs (internal and external) for all projects across the programme
**Schedule Management**
+ Direct, support and performance manage the Schedule Lead in carrying out his/her duties
+ Develop key objectives and the strategic direction of the Project Scheduling function including processes, procedures, systems and resources
+ Peer review monthly progress reports
+ Oversee the development of the yearly programme of work and approve the associated cost and resource loading on an annual basis
+ Oversee the development and maintenance of the Master Programme for all projects in the programme
+ Peer review business-critical project schedules so that timescales proposed to the wider business are realistic and achievable
**Risk Management**
+ Direct, support and performance manage the Risk Manager in carrying out his/her duties
+ Develop the key objectives for, and strategic direction of the Project Risk Management function including processes, procedures and systems
+ Peer review monthly risk reports
+ Oversee the development, maintenance and adoption of fit-for-purpose project risk registers across the programme
+ Formally review key risks across all major projects on a monthly basis
+ Support the Risk lead in the completion of Quantified Cost & Schedule Risk Analysis on key projects
+ Chair risk workshops (where necessary)
+ Take direct responsibility for the development of a schedule risk-adjusted budget for each financial year
+ Oversee the maintenance, updating and reporting of corporate risk to the Corporate Risk Manager's office
+ Act as the key interface with the Corporate Risk Manager on behalf of the programme

As the successful candidate, you will have experience working within our primary infrastructure markets along with having the following qualfications and experience.
+ Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or equivalent technical degree and/or minimum 15+ years' experience, at least 3+ years within the aviation industry
+ Knowledge of project financial and cost management systems
+ Knowledge of risk management systems and development of corporate and project risk strategies
+ Significant experience of leading, managing and organising teams within an operational service delivery area
+ Strong commercial and financial awareness including monitoring and co-ordination of budget.
+ Experience in programme scheduling and resource integration
+ Excellent project management skills with the capability to provide the motivation to ensure that targets are met, and timelines achieved
+ Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage deliverables within tight timelines

**Summary:**
Meta is seeking a data center Controls Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Controls SME will be a part of the facility operations team and will be responsible for reliability and quality of the Building Management System (BMS). The Controls Subject Matter Expert will need to have a broad understanding of controls system and equipment function and will be responsible for procedure-based controls equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight. The candidate will support data center daily operations and global quality/standardization initiatives and will have a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
**Required Skills:**
Controls Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities:
1. Accountable for all Building Management System (BMS) changes and enhancements at the data center as part of a global fleet
2. Diagnose and repair complex control system malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and experience with testing and creating modifications in multiple languages of systems software
3. Troubleshoot and repair controls hardware including controllers, relays, measurement devices, actuators, and associated equipment with mechanical and electrical device systems
4. Review operating equipment data for efficiency improvements, monitor all building systems for abnormal operating trends, and make optimization adjustments accordingly
5. Collaborate with other disciplines to make modifications to BMS settings to manage the building space
6. Ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration between local controls team and applicable local and global teams
7. Manage controls vendors while supporting site operations including direct oversight to all system configuration and component upgrades
8. Provide QA/QC oversight of controls scope, review proposals and review programming through commissioning process for new construction and retrofits
9. Oversee all control system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems comply with best practices, including change control processes
10. Provide technical controls training and support to all Facility Operations staff
11. Collaborate with the global controls team to provide feedback on global controls strategies and implement global initiatives at the data center
12. Communicate all issues and upcoming controls work with site management
13. Travel expectations can be significant during the first 6 months for initial training and onboarding. After initial onboarding, there would be occasional travel for factory witness tests, collaboration, training, etc
**Minimum Qualifications:**

14. 7+ years of controls experience in programming development, start up, and commissioning of complex systems - central plants, air handling units, and evaporative cooling/humidification systems
15. Bachelor's degree or trade certification in related field plus 3+ years relevant controls industry experience will be considered in lieu of 7+ years controls industry experience
16. Experience in critical environments
17. Working knowledge of critical facility operations with experience or understanding of procedure-based work
18. Theoretical & practical understanding of control equipment & systems, with expertise in control equipment design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and/or construction
19. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and life safety systems associated with critical environments
20. Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings and controls diagrams
21. Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment

+ Proven Project Management skills through the delivery of Automation and or Digitalisation projects.
