The Data Center Global Services team is looking for a Controls Engineer for Construction (BMS/EPMS), responsible for the building automation systems within Amazon data centers to join our EMEA team. Our Control Engineers technical background across project/construction management, mechanical, electrical or technology background enable them to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms to strategically align building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business. They work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.

Controls Engineers in AWS deploys , maintains BMS(Building Management System) & EPMS(Electrical Power Monitoring System) across our leased/colocation data centers.

They co-ordinate with AWS DCEO( Data Center Engineering Operations) teams to implement new builds, upgrades etc and ensures high availability and high resiliency of these control systems.

Key job responsibilities

Your Role Responsibilities
Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.

Manage scopes of work relative to the site specifics and customer needs.

Manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.

Read and interpret specifications and implement those specifications as they apply the work environment.

Develop control panel BOM's

Develop ISA data sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters along with ISA data sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical, and various other types of instrumentation.

Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.

Develop logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System.

Prepare cable, routing plans and schedules.

Perform inspections, testing, and commission of the facility systems.

Provide technical assistance as needed to internal customers.

Coordinate project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.

Travel domestically and internationally to support other regions

A day in the life

Controls Engineer's day may begin with deployment efforts including on-site site management works , directing Controls vendors for installation / commissioing works and is responsible for quality and on time delivery of the tasks / project. While managing service works, CE will co-ordinate with Operations teams for permits and engages Vendor or performs services confirming to the task lists.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or other related engineering degrees
  • Minimum Three (3) years in BMS or EPMS Controls related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have an understanding of: electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.

Reporting to the Project Controls Team Lead or a Senior Project Controls professional, the Project Controls Consultant will support the project controls team in ensuring effective commercial management and project control processes are applied across projects. The Project Controls Consultant will primarily focus on providing support to the project controls team and project managers, including:

Supporting Cost Control And Financial Monitoring

  • Assist with tracking project costs and financial performance data.
  • Help with data entry and maintaining accuracy in project financial records.
  • Support the monitoring of performance parameters to help projects deliver commercially.
  • Assist in preparing basic reports on project financials.

Assisting With Change Management Activities

  • Support the process of tracking project changes.
  • Assist in documenting information related to change requests.
  • Learn to use established templates for change management.

Supporting Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Assist in collecting data required for Earned Value reporting.
  • Help populate standard templates for consistently monitoring EV.

Contributing To Project Support

  • Assist in gathering data for bid stage support activities.
  • Provide support during the construction stage by assisting with data entry and monitoring.
  • Help with in-project support tasks, such as collecting data for forecast updates or tracking subconsultants.
  • Learn and utilise standard templates and processes for commercial management.

General Support

  • Maintain accurate project controls documentation and records.

A Successful Project Controls Consultant/Assistant Will Likely Have

  • A Bachelor's Degree in engineering, construction management, finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Familiarity with Excel is required.
