**Location/Division Specific Information**
Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic guides. The Sample Management Team Leader will be based in our GMP Labs in Athlone is working in a team managing all samples coming to the site for analysis and distribution of same.
You will be responsible for leading a dedicated team in sample management at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., an outstanding chance for impactful leadership.
**Responsibilities**
+ Build work schedules and assignments.
+ Ensure policies and procedures are accurate.
+ Train staff and assess competence.
+ Participate in staff hiring, corrective action, evaluation, and career progression.
+ Coordinate sample accessioning, routing, storage, shipment, deidentification, relabelling, discard, destruction, and aliquoting.
+ Review and recommend process improvements and efficiency gains.
+ Recommend IT improvements.
+ Author, review, and implement procedural documents.
+ Define and monitor performance metrics for quality and efficiency.
+ Serve as a back-up for management when needed.
+ Ensure contracted maintenance and qualification of environmentally controlled units (ECU) or equipment used to prepare or store specimens is performed.
+ Monitor ECU trending reports to prevent equipment failure.
+ Ensure accurate call response processes and teams are in place to respond to ECU failures after-hours.
+ Investigate and resolve problems with samples or shipments.
+ Address Process Deviation Reports/CAPA.
+ Participate in audits and general capabilities department tours.
+ Respond to environmental unit alarms and participate in on-call responsibilities.
+ Direct daily operations of work.
**Requirements**
+ Secondary level education and ideally some 3rd level/formal qualification
+ Min 2 years experience in GMP environment
+ 1+ years experience demonstrating leadership qualities
+ Proven track record in managing sample management operations.
+ Strong leadership and team-building skills.
+ Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
+ Ability to successfully implement process improvements and efficiency gains.
+ Experience in IT improvement recommendations.
+ Competence in monitoring performance metrics for quality and efficiency.
+ Willingness to participate in on-call responsibilities and address ECU failures.

**Hours:** (applicants must be able to work these shifts)
Morning shift - 6.30am - 3.15pm M-T, 6.30am - 2.15pm F.
Core Shift - 8.30am - 5.15 M-T, 8.30am - 4.15pm F.
Evening Shift - 12.30pm - 9.00pm M-T, 11.30am-7pm F.
Rotational shift, evening shift every 4 weeks.

It is an interdisciplinary project with multiple clinical research sites, laboratory projects and over several collaborators across the Republic of Ireland and the globe.
In collaboration with the project manager and clinical fellows, the research nurse will manage study set-up, data collection/management, patient recruitment, adherence to all SOPs, and check accuracy of outcome measures.
The research nurse will oversee the human studies recruitment and so will manage informed consent, discuss the study goals/sample collection with patients and prepare ethical study documentation for submission/approval, ensure appropriate follow up with patients and record any adverse events.
They will collect basic demographic and clinical data, organise follow-up clinic visits, liaise with clinical research fellows regarding biomaterials collection, storage and transport, will implement GCP throughout.
The follow-up visits will coincide with planned clinical visits and candidate will maintain close communication with their responsible clinician.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements for the purpose of conducting research in the University.
Project Title: Precision Endo-Omics: a quantitative approach to intestinal luminal imaging.
Post Duration: 12 Months Salary: CNM1: €56,642 -€66,705 p.a.

ABOUT UCC CTG: The UCC CTG is a new HRB funded collaborative team which aims to bring together a dedicated team of cancer specialists and research staff across the south of Ireland.
The UCC CTG is part of Cancer , a translational cancer research centre within the College of Medicine & Health at University College Cork.
The UCC CTG group includes 3 cancer trials units at Cork University Hospital ( ), University Hospital Waterford and Bons Secours Hospital Cork.
For more information about the group, check our website: or our Trials ABOUT ACADEMIC RESEARCH AT : The role will be hosted in Cancer and the Cancer Trials Cork Unit at CUH ( ) in the Breast Lung Gynaecology portfolio.
The CUH unit has been in operation for close to two decades, serving a geographically diverse population of 1.2 million in the South of Ireland.
This team has grown over the past few years and continued growth is projected for years to come.
The CNMII will work closely under the guidance of Professor Roisin Connolly /CNM3 /Nurse Management and team members.
As a summary, the role will include: Co-ordination of clinical and translational aspects of the project including direct interface with pathology department, scientific collaborators, external laboratories and data scientists etc.
Clinical responsibilities.
Working with pathology for slide cutting and storage, labelling etc Coordination of sample distribution to labs and payments/invoices for correlative studies.
Keeping accurate logs of the specimens and results, linking with Castor database (study database) where relevant Collection of clinical data from relevant databases when required for abstract preparation Supporting team meetings (minutes/agendas/follow up tasks) specific to the project Support other studies taking place in the Cancer Trials Cork unit at Cork University Hospital where deemed necessary and in keeping with funding requirements Engage cross-functionally with different stakeholders, knowledge sharing, and building relationships.
This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy, organization and an awareness of time management.
The MINA study - 'Microbiome Immunotherapy Neoadjuvant Assessment' - is a prospective observational study that aims to characterise and evaluate the bacterial population shown to be present in the immediate environment of breast tumours.
Previous work has shown that these bacteria can alter the effectiveness of some commonly used anti-cancer drugs, and so it is hoped that data from this study can support the development of new biomarkers that can measure how well some patients might respond to chemotherapy compared to others.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Qualified Nurse (Mandatory RGN, BSc).
Oncology background or related experience would be a strong advantage.
Strong interest in gaining experience in this area will also be considered without previous experience in Oncology nursing.
