This position will report to the Senior Director Data Science in Ireland with a dotted line to US-based Data Science leadership. This role will support the development of an exciting new product which will form part of the Optum Insight product suite. The position will work in partnership with local analytic leadership in Ireland as part of the broader Optum Ireland ecosystem, while building solid relationships with US-based AI/ML experts. In addition to building and leading a high performing data science function, the role will also be accountable for translating United Health Group's culture and values into action and be a role model for all members of the team.

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Provide leadership for Optum Insight data science product team in Ireland in partnership with other key senior data science leaders in Ireland and the US
+ Be a hands-on Technical leader, actively contributing to model design, review and critical technical decision

**Required Qualifications:**
+ PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field OR a Master's degree with significant industry experience

+ Demonstrated proficiency in AI/ML and deep learning frameworks such us PyTorch
+ Proven knowledge of deep learning architectures

We are looking for a Data Science Manager who will support the Analytics & AI pillar of our Data Science & Engineering CoE. You will lead and coach our team of data scientists. This role requires an individual who is passionate about data science, coaching teams, and delivering high-impact machine learning and generative AI solutions.
The successful candidate will have substantial hands-on experience with Databricks and a proven track record in team leadership and talent development. They are a self-starter, a person who can communicate with both business and technical audiences, looking to inspire and be inspired, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big (while paying careful attention to detail) and enjoys working in a fast-paced team that will support Kerry's Digital Transformation journey.
What will I be doing?
- Lead, coach, and manage a team of data scientists, ensuring they adhere to Databricks platform best practices.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, guiding team members to develop their talent.
- Drive strategic data science initiatives from conception to deployment, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, data analysts, AI architects, AI ops engineers, data governance, product owners and other stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of projects.
- Oversee the evaluation, selection, and application of machine learning and generative AI techniques/frameworks, ensuring best practices and optimal outcomes.
- Monitor team performance, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to facilitate professional growth.
What do I need to be successful?

- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading and managing a data science team.
- Hands-on expertise with the Databricks platform, specifically in machine learning and generative AI applications.
- Strong experience designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models and generative AI solutions in production cloud computing environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coach and inspire team members.
- Databricks Certified Machine Learning Professional (strongly preferred).
- Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate (strongly preferred).

We are looking for a Data Science Architect to lead the design and evolution of our data science systems across machine and cloud platforms. As a key member of the R&D team, you will shape the architecture that powers deep learning inference on TOMRA Food sorters and drive innovation in our cloud-based MLOps platform that was developed to train the models. This role blends technical leadership, system design, and strategic foresight to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that create real customer value.
Role and Responsibilities:
System Architecture & MLOps:
- Design DL vision models by selecting a suitable backbone, neck and head and testing the performance of those combinations. Innovations in these areas are highly welcomed.
- Design architecture for real-time deep learning inference on TOMRA sorters, including GPU specifications.
- Maintain & improve architecture of in-house cloud-based MLOps platform (data science pipelines).
- Design & advise on new features for the MLOps platform.
- Follow latest improvements in AzureML ecosystem and come up with efficiency improvements.
- Optimise model lifecycle process and come up with performance improvements for our DL models in order to create customer value.
- Produce architectural plans for our data science solutions and ensure that these are well communicated and understood by the rest of the data science team.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to data scientists.
- Stay up to date of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our systems remain cutting-edge.
- Understand customer needs and assist in translating these to technical product requirements.
- Follow latest DL model trends and push improvements to the data science team (this includes making use of new libraries).
Qualifications
About You:
- Master's or higher degree in Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics or an equivalent field.
- Computer vision background and expertise.
- Proficiency with several machine-learning tools, application programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, Pytorch, TensorRT, Tensorflow).
- Experience with AzureML, Databricks, AWS or similar and tools like MLFlow.
- Experience with data visualisation and labeling tools such as Voxel51 & Labelstudio or similar.
- Experience with databases (SQL, LakeFS, Azure blob…).
- CUDA experience is a bonus.
- Experience with DL inference on edge devices and GPU benchmarking.
- Track record of completing full development cycle of data science products that were applied in production on large scale.
- In-depth knowledge of data science principles & DL backbones (also mathematically).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and licensing requirements.
- Proven experience in influencing and communicating effectively with a team.
