We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist – AI/Deep Learning to enhance our capacity to develop new analytic products. As a key member of the Data Science Team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group's mission of helping people live healthier lives. You will work with other Data Scientists and subject matter experts to conduct and manage outcomes of various analytic studies. This position will report to the Director Data Science in Ireland and will support the development of an exciting new product which will form part of the OptumInsight product suite. The position will work in partnership with a diverse analytic peer group in Ireland, while building strong relationships with US-based AI/ML experts.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Analyze, review and interpret complex data through the development of case-studies, enabling the data to tell a story
  • Build and maintain production-ready machine-learning models
  • Identify drivers of patterns / behaviors uncovered in data and use these to explain business trends
  • Contribute to the design and realization of analytical based tools/assets to identify and monitor non-standard claim patterns
  • Engage with subject-matter experts to explore business problems and design solutions
  • Present analysis and interpretation for both operational and business review and planning
  • Support short and long term operational and strategic business activities through the use of data and develop recommended business solutions through research, analysis and implement when appropriate

**The Role**
Proofpoint is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist to join the Algo team within the Tessian Business Unit. In this role, your key responsibility will be to analyse data, build ML models and improve algorithms at the core of our email threat detection engine that protects some of the largest businesses in the world. You will collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify and solve the most impactful problems applying state-of-the-art machine learning tools and techniques. **Your day-to-day**
-Wrangle and draw meaningful insights from massive amounts of unstructured textual data using the latest tools and technologies like Spark, Iceberg, Athena, AWS SageMaker
-Apply unsupervised learning algorithms across billions of email interactions to identify emerging threat patterns
-Work with state-of-the-art machine learning models and techniques like encoder-decoder transformers, LLMs, anomaly detection as well as classical ML models to solve a multifaceted problem
-Engineer new features, train and deploy models to production using AWS SageMaker as the MLOps platform
-Adopt a data-driven approach to identify gaps in our detection algorithms and propose improvements to our models and algorithms
-Promote and drive ML best practices and cultivate an environment of experimentation and learning
-Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning, AI technologies, and incorporate them into our solutions where applicable
**What you bring to the team**
Essential
-Experience contributing to multiple highly impactful machine learning projects with proven results
-Hands-on experience in the NLP domain involving training, fine-tuning and productionising transformer-based models for text classification / text-embeddings (experience with LLMs, generative AI is a plus)
-Experience monitoring and maintaining performance of models over time in production considering model/data drifts In-depth experience with one or more deep neural network frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX)
-A creative mindset, propensity to care deeply about the impact their team has and to encourage novel ways of critical thinking in their team
Good to have
-Conceptual understanding of Graph Neural Networks and experience applying GNNs to solve real world problem statements will be a plus
-Experience working on large imbalanced datasets, evaluating and selecting models that work well in production on imbalanced real-world data

Required Qualifications: 3+ years professional experience in implementing ML and Data Engineering at scale. 3+ years of experience with Python & SQL programming language. 3+ years' experience with working in Dev/ML Ops model and industry deployment best practices using CI/CD tools and infrastructure as a code (e.g., Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes). 3+ years of experience in building cloud native analytical solutions, either on Azure or GCP. 1+ years designing, implementing, and optimizing machine learning algorithms and models using open-source machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and XGBoost. 1+ years' experience in end-to-end ML implementation lifecycle including feature engineering, training, inference, model drift measurement, and model observability. 1+ years' experience in building data engineering pipelines, and metric aggregation layers. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in Retail domain with a strong functional understanding of product pricing and promotion strategies is a plus. Experience in Google Cloud platform including Big Query, Vertex AI. Hands-on experience working in scalable distributed computation frameworks like Spark or Dask. Expertise with working with open-source ML platforms & toolsets such as Kubeflow, Airflow and Feast is preferred.
