Purpose of Position: The key functions of this position are to teach a range of School programmes, develop academic programmes and programme-related materials, and carry out research in areas as specified in this advert. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computing. The current positions are in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence in Business, FinTech and Cloud Computing. The School of Computing is one of Ireland's largest Schools of Computing with academic programmes at the leading edge of industry requirements within an innovation-intensive environment. Our school faculty is strongly focused on applied research on different aspects of computer science, with current involvement in several EU projects. Additionally, the School has strong industry links, is a part of the Dublin Regional Innovation Consortium, and encourages inventions, patents, and spinouts. Reporting to: Dean of the School of Computing Key Relationships: Dean/Vice-Dean of School of Computing Faculty/Programme Directors Programme Co-ordinators Students Computing Support Tutor Teaching Responsibilities: Actively participate in the School's teaching provisions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Supervise and mark student research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Attend committees and meetings appropriate to School programmes. Engage in the assessment processes of the College including setting and marking examinations and assignments, attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners. Programme Development: Assist in the development of existing and new programmes. This may involve drafting submission documents, writing new modules and revising existing ones, liaising with the validating bodies, and promoting, implementing, and reviewing complete programmes. Research & Innovation: Carry out research and innovation activities relevant to College activities, consistently publishing findings in peer-reviewed high-impact journals and reputable international conferences and fostering foreground knowledge activities such as innovation disclosures, patents, software development, etc. Pursue funded research projects, consultancy endeavours, and development work as appropriate. Actively participate in the conception and development of project proposals aligned with the School's research interests to attract external research and innovation funds from external entities such as Enterprise Ireland, European Union, SFI, etc. General: Act as programme director for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in consultation with the Dean of the School. Contribute to academic and disciplinary committees as requested. Represent the College at exhibitions, open days, recruitment trips, industry engagements, and other external events. Undertake the duties of the role by the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement. Carry out administrative and other duties as deemed necessary by the Dean of the School. Commitment to the mission, vision and values of National College of Ireland. Key Requirements: PhD in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence or Cloud Computing. The candidate should be able to teach the technical/practical areas of the subject area. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level is required. An established track record of research achievement, as evidenced by scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals with impact factors and reputable international conferences, is desirable. Evidence of research funding (for Academic II). Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Salary: The appointment will be to Academic II Salary Band €53,836 - €2,374 or Academic I Salary Band ,271 - ,027 The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; academic experience; research output and funding. **The Role**
Proofpoint is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist to join the Algo team within the Tessian Business Unit. In this role, your key responsibility will be to analyse data, build ML models and improve algorithms at the core of our email threat detection engine that protects some of the largest businesses in the world. You will collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify and solve the most impactful problems applying state-of-the-art machine learning tools and techniques. You'll be surrounded by incredibly smart, talented and friendly colleagues. Engineers at Tessian love to learn from each other and pull together as a team to succeed.
*This is a Hybrid role; Cork or Belfast.
**Your day-to-day**
-Wrangle and draw meaningful insights from massive amounts of unstructured textual data using the latest tools and technologies like Spark, Iceberg, Athena, AWS SageMaker
-Apply unsupervised learning algorithms across billions of email interactions to identify emerging threat patterns
-Work with state-of-the-art machine learning models and techniques like encoder-decoder transformers, LLMs, anomaly detection as well as classical ML models to solve a multifaceted problem
-Engineer new features, train and deploy models to production using AWS SageMaker as the MLOps platform
-Adopt a data-driven approach to identify gaps in our detection algorithms and propose improvements to our models and algorithms
-Promote and drive ML best practices and cultivate an environment of experimentation and learning
-Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning, AI technologies, and incorporate them into our solutions where applicable
**What you bring to the team**
Essential
-Experience contributing to multiple highly impactful machine learning projects with proven results
-Hands-on experience in the NLP domain involving training, fine-tuning and productionising transformer-based models for text classification / text-embeddings (experience with LLMs, generative AI is a plus)
-Experience monitoring and maintaining performance of models over time in production considering model/data drifts In-depth experience with one or more deep neural network frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX)
-A creative mindset, propensity to care deeply about the impact their team has and to encourage novel ways of critical thinking in their team
Good to have
-Conceptual understanding of Graph Neural Networks and experience applying GNNs to solve real world problem statements will be a plus
-Experience working on large imbalanced datasets, evaluating and selecting models that work well in production on imbalanced real-world data

Position Summary The ML Engineer, part of the broader Retail Analytics Engineering department, supports the Price Value & Assortment Analytics organization in the development of AI/ML driven analytical solutions at scale. The ML Engineer will actively collaborate with Data Scientists to successfully optimize, and scale complex ML models & optimizer solvers that enable highly dynamic & sophisticated pricing and promotion strategies. The incumbent in this role will have the opportunity to work on challenging business problems leveraging cutting-edge technologies including Big Data, Distributed Computing, and Machine learning. Key job duties include: Partner with data scientists to train, optimize, scale and support AI/ML models. Translating functionality into scalable, tested, and configurable platform architecture and software. Ensure models are integrated into production systems with high reliability and performance. Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of machine learning models. Iterate on models based on feedback and evolving business requirements. Build frameworks, reusable modules, and author best practices and standards to enable self-serve capabilities that enable data scientists to deploy solutions quickly and efficiently. Required Qualifications: 3+ years professional experience in implementing ML and Data Engineering at scale. 3+ years of experience with Python & SQL programming language. 3+ years' experience with working in Dev/ML Ops model and industry deployment best practices using CI/CD tools and infrastructure as a code (e.g., Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes). 3+ years of experience in building cloud native analytical solutions, either on Azure or GCP. 1+ years designing, implementing, and optimizing machine learning algorithms and models using open-source machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and XGBoost. 1+ years' experience in end-to-end ML implementation lifecycle including feature engineering, training, inference, model drift measurement, and model observability. 1+ years' experience in building data engineering pipelines, and metric aggregation layers. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in Retail domain with a strong functional understanding of product pricing and promotion strategies is a plus. Experience in Google Cloud platform including Big Query, Vertex AI. Hands-on experience working in scalable distributed computation frameworks like Spark or Dask. Expertise with working with open-source ML platforms & toolsets such as Kubeflow, Airflow and Feast is preferred. Experience in deploying supervised machine learning, time series modeling, CNNs, ensemble models. Exposure to deploying ML optimization models such as Pyomo/ IPOPT. Exposure in implementing Gen AI and/or NLP based solutions using LLMs. Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
