The position of Maintenance Fitter will be based in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo and may require occasional travel to other sites as required. Duties will include, but not limited to:
- Conduct maintenance activities in support of day-to-day production alongside our production managers and their teams.
- Ensure equipment breakdowns are dealt with in a timely fashion in line with business needs, and document corrective measures as required
- Support ongoing Preventative Maintenance Programmes
- Work alongside our contractors and electricians to ensure new equipment at the site meets maintainability and operability requirements
- Routine calibration, inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment onsite
- Assisting Engineering Manager with maintaining all maintenance records and routine inspections in compliance with our licenses and accreditations
- Assist and promote all continuous improvement programs with a strong commitment to quality and compliance
- Provide support to emergency situations outside of regular workings hours, as required
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years' previous experience in a similar position within the manufacturing industry
- Qualification in mechanical automation and maintenance fitting and or in metal fabrication desirable
- Must have experience in electrical fault finding
- Strong knowledge of welding, fabrication and fitting techniques
- Strong problem solving, analytical and trouble shooting skills
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with a team
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Flexible approach to work and commitment to completing tasks
- Robotic programming experience advantageous
- Demonstrated high performance history, proven ability to execute and get results
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude

Key tasks

McCarren Meats Unlimited Company is one of the oldest traditional pig slaughtering, processing and bacon curing company in Ireland.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidates will work as part of a team responsible for all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance, specialising in the repair of industrial equipment.
This is a shift role that covers a production plan in a busy food facility.
Weekly rotation Monday to Friday
Morning shift 5am to 1.30pm
Day shift am to 7pm. Occasionally overtime required.
What to expect in the job?
- Maintenance of the plant and equipment to optimum performance
- Be familiar with the daily production plan and work as part of the team
- Perform all prestart, hygiene and safety checks as necessary
- Report all faults or dame, electrical or mechanical defaults to the Maintenance Manager, ensuring all machine is only used when it is safe to use. Record checks as and when directed
- Repair of industrial production equipment such as machines, conveyors and packaging machines
- Assist the Maintenance Manager with the implementation of preventative maintenance programmes for all machines
- Assist with the continuous monitoring of all machinery and equipment within the plant
- Ensure real time repair of machines and equipment to get them back up and running within optimum timeframe
- Document all aspects of maintenance work carried out and keep management informed of potential issues
- Adhere to company safety policies at all times
Requirements
What we need from you?
- Must have prior experience in high speed machines and conveyors, packaging machines, gearbox repairs, air automation, hydraulics and welding
- Ideally must have significant experience working as a maintenance fitter with a manufacturing/industrial business, preferably within the food or packaging industries
- IT literate and experience in automation
- Experience of Lean Manufacturing processes would be beneficial but not necessary.
- Good communication skills, enthusiastic, hardworking and energetic.
