The ideal candidate should be a time served Plant Fitter or Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic with a minimum of 1 years post apprenticeship experience, who has the ability to diagnose and repair equipment faults.
To diagnose faults and repair/maintain a variety of small plant and tools in the fleet including mini-excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, small tools etc. Maintenance of large fleet of access equipment including boom & scissor lifts.
Provide quality customer service and assist sales staff by providing complete service reports in an accurate and timely manner.
Applicants should be good communicators, customer focused and cost conscious with a flexible approach.
Must have fluent English - written & verbal. Knowledge of the Cork road network/area is essential. Experience with access equipment a distinct advantage. Must have a full B drivers license.
C license a distinct advantage.

Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Heavy Plant Mechanic to join our team in Taghart Quarry. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and equipment used in our quarry operations. This is a hands-on role that requires a high level of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on heavy plant quarry equipment vehicles including mobile crushers, conveyors, loaders, dumpers, excavators and mobile screeners.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults and carry out necessary repairs to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
- Conduct welding to repair or modify plant components as required.
- Conduct regular inspections and servicing to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work completed, parts used and downtime experienced.
- Manage spare parts inventory to ensure critical parts are always available.
- Strictly adhere to all health and safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Provide training and guidance to apprentice construction plant fitter.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Diesel Heavy Plant Mechanic, preferably within the mines/quarry sector or a similar heavy manufacturing industry.
- Fully qualified with recognised National Craft Certificate.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if necessary.
