MEP Project Director - MADRID, Spain
DB Recruitment are looking for an MEP Project Director to join one of the world's most respected general contractors and work alongside top-tier professionals on some of the most advanced builds in the region.
Current roles are primarily based in Madrid, with future opportunities expected further afield in Europe. Depending on your role, you may be site-based (with relocation support if needed), or offered remote working options, which will be clarified during the interview process.
Your day to day will include:
Project Start-Up Phase
- Arrange and chair handover of project from estimating department to construction team.
- Liaise with the Operations Director of the project regarding staffing for the project.
- Validate project and in doing so develop business plan, cost control system, cash flow and billable schedules, etc.
- Produce procurement plan, drawing / design plan, construction programme, s-curve and histogram.
- Liaise with client and design team on procurement and engineering issues.
Project Running Phase
- Ensure the delivery of the project within time constraints and cost.
- Ensure compliance with programme, materials deliveries, and engineering, quality and safety issues.
- Attend meetings with client & hold weekly progress meetings with sub-contractors and ensure that safety and training are discussed.
- Hold monthly team meetings to discuss project progress against milestones
- Submit monthly internal reports to the Operations Director, to minimise company exposure to risk on the project.
- Manage and coordinate installation of the project.
- Manage labour and subcontractors ensuring compliance for installation in accordance with the projects specification and contract documentation
- To ensure that all health, safety and welfare obligations associated with the project delivery are met.
Project Completion Phase
- Understand the requirements and actions to be taken to test, commission and handover the project prior to the commencement of the commissioning period
- Ensure all systems are demonstrated to Client and projects Building control officer.
- Prepare final account with the QS, submit and agree with client in line with company objective.
- Produce a project close-out report and submit to the Operations Director.
- Maintain contact with client for warranty period and thereafter when retention monies are collected.
- Post contract completion i.e. clearing site/archiving/financial & practical review/installed drawings and manuals/secure disposal of confidential information and systems

Maintenance & Repair:

- Respond promptly to breakdowns and diagnose faults accurately using a logical and systematic approach.
- Troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults, including wiring, circuits, control systems, and instrumentation.
Operational Efficiency & Improvement:
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures to prevent recurrence.

Health, Safety & Food Safety:
- Adhere strictly to all company health and safety policies and procedures
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, BRC, IFS) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Technical Support & Documentation:
- Provide technical support and guidance to production operators on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain and update engineering drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with production, quality, and other departments to achieve operational goals.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues and management regarding plant status, issues, and progress.
3. Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
- Minimum of a recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (e.g., Degree, HNC/HND, City & Guilds, FETAC Level 6/7 equivalent).
- Apprenticeship in a relevant trade (e.g., Mechanical Fitter, Electrician) is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) as a Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineer/Technician in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably within the food or beverage industry.
- Demonstrable experience with preventative and reactive maintenance of industrial machinery.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.
