JOB PURPOSE:
- To assist in provision of care to our Residents and work as part of a team to achieve excellent standards.
- To ensure Clients retain their dignity and Individuality.
- To be involved in the general activities of the Nursing Home.

You must have a:
- Genuine interest in working within a Caring Environment
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Willingness to be team player
- FETEC/NFQ 5 or equivalent and a willingness to participate in training and development
Main Responsibilities
Care:
- Ensure the highest levels of care are maintained by supporting / assisting Clients, when required, with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and all other aspects of daily living.
- Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. Physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide attention when needed, whilst ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
- Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility, or physical / Learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
- Closely monitor Clients who may be confused and / or who have behavioural problems.
- Assist in the promotion of continence.
- Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last office
- Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with clients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the care centre.
- Answer Nurse call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
- Under the supervision and guidance of senior Care Staff, report on the wellbeing of Clients.
- Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
- Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments / assistance as and when required.
- Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Nursing Home's disposal of waste policy.
- Ensure the Nursing Homes resources are used appropriately.
- Clean and maintain equipment used by Clients / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Nursing Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company's attention to detail to philosophy.
- If applicable, care for clients' clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
- Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the company's policies and procedures.
- Assist Clients who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.) Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required. Wash up as requested / required.
- Escort Clients travelling to and from the Nursing Home e.g. on social outings, hospitals visits etc.
- Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients.

Details of the Service:
The service caters for adults & Children with a Moderate to severe range of intellectual disability or autism in a variety of residential, respite and supported settings.
These settings are located in Maynooth, Co. Kildare and Dublin( Tallaght, Dundrum, Rathfarnham, Crumlin, Stillorgan, Ballyboden)
Hawthorns, Grove Avenue, Stillorgan, Co. Dublin is a 25-bedded residential service, The centre caters for residents with moderate to severe learning disability some with challenging behaviour/ dual diagnosis.
Aisling House, Maynooth, County Kildare is a 16-bed service consisting of 5-community houses in a cul de sac in Maynooth. This service caters for residents with severe intellectual disability and presenting with communicative behaviours/dual diagnosis.
Sorrento, Maynooth, Co Kildare 6 bed house on its own grounds which offers ground floor accommodation to residents.
Good Counsel services, ocated in Crumlin and Terenure is a 16 bed centre for people with a mild to moderate intellectual disability which also includes Westfield House, Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham. 9 bedded unit for our more elderly dependent clients who have transitioned from Good Counsel Centre.
Community Houses X8 Firhouse, Ballyboden Rathfarnham,Churchtown, Tallaght Residents living within the community who have varying needs and supports there is an emphasis on community inclusion.
Respite Services (Children's Respite Service) 2 houses
Farmleigh – Palmerstown
Liffeyvale - Stillorgan
Is 9 bedded Residential Respite service for children on Autism Spectrum Disorder and mild intellectual disability ranging from 6 years to 18 years old. Children attend the service on rational basis and attendance is determined by the needs of families and young people. Residential is provided on planned basis.
Adult respite services- provides respite to adults with ASD /ID within a community based setting, service users attend on a rotational basis.
The HSE provides a wide range of community based services for people with Intellectual Disabilities and co-existing conditions in various social circumstances within the Regional Health Area. These services are strategically evolving and developing within the Regional Health Area and the Assistant Director of Nursing will have a pivotal role in the development of these services.
Purpose of the Post:
The Director of Nursing 1, Assistant serves as part of the Senior Nurse Management Team and will operate within the wider hospital management team.
The Director of Nursing 1, Assistant is responsible for the standard of nursing care within the directorate and leads the nursing team in the development and coordination of the service within the directorate's defined priorities.
