Greenhill Nursing Home Carrick on Suir are seeking an experienced full time chef to help enrich the lives of our residents by providing high quality, fresh meals catered to a range of dietary requirements. The chef is an integral part of the day to day running of the nursing home. Qualifications

Proven culinary expertise/qualification with knowledge of HACCP guidelines, hygiene and food safety regulations

Previous experience in a medical/care of the elderly setting an advantage working with different food textures

In depth knowledge of dietary requirements catering to diabetic diets etc.

Experience in effectively managing a kitchen in terms of stock rotation, ordering, supervising kitchen assistants, maintaining high standards of cleanliness

Main Responsibilities
Care:

  • Ensure the highest levels of care are maintained by supporting / assisting Clients, when required, with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and all other aspects of daily living.
  • Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. Physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide attention when needed, whilst ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
  • Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility, or physical / Learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
  • Closely monitor Clients who may be confused and / or who have behavioural problems.
  • Assist in the promotion of continence.
  • Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last office
  • Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with clients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the care centre.
  • Answer Nurse call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
  • Under the supervision and guidance of senior Care Staff, report on the wellbeing of Clients.
  • Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
  • Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments / assistance as and when required.
  • Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Nursing Home's disposal of waste policy.
  • Ensure the Nursing Homes resources are used appropriately.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used by Clients / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Nursing Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company's attention to detail to philosophy.
  • If applicable, care for clients' clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
  • Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Assist Clients who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.) Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required. Wash up as requested / required.
  • Escort Clients travelling to and from the Nursing Home e.g. on social outings, hospitals visits etc.
  • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients.

Care:

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure that each Client within the Nursing Home has an individualised Care Plan. Client Care Plans to be reviewed on a monthly basis or even more frequently as and when required, in accordance with An Bord Altranais guidelines & Company policy.
  • Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals as required. Ensure a clear and concise handover report is given to all relevant Staff Members at the end of each shift.
  • Administer prescribed medicines and document the same accordance with the Company's procedure and An Bord Altranais.
  • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' personal and financial affairs in line with the Financial Policy, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship which exits with Clients.

Communication:

  • Participate in Staff and Client meetings as and when required.
  • Establish and maintain good communication with Clients, Relatives and with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide administrative support when required.
  • Health & Safety:
  • Report immediately to the D.O.N or person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or another.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of, the Nursing Homes' Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire Procedures.
  • Report to the D.O.N, or the maintenance, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Promote safe working practice within the Nursing Home.

General:

  • Adhere to all appropriate An Bord Altranais guidelines / regulations.
  • Maintain all documentation and records as required by both the Registering Authority and the Directors of Nursing

  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals, such as GP's, Physios and other members of multi-disciplinary teams, to exchange information about the background and progress of patients and Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if they detect larger health problems, such as diabetes
  • Meet continuous education requirements and maintain an up to date CPD folder
  • Write patient case notes and reports and collect statistics; as well as managing their payments, and issue receipts
  • Place stock orders and log repairs

The Homemaker is responsible for: -

  • Greeting and welcoming all visitors to the House.
  • Creating meaningful events and activities for the residents which are both planned and unplanned.
  • Welcoming Assisting with the planning of meals and mealtimes and organizing and serving the meals to the residents in the House in a person centred way, showing flexibility, awareness of individual needs/preferences and choice.
  • Maintaining residents' fluid and food intake charts where necessary and keeping the Nurse/Carer Lead informed of same.
  • Liaising with the House team/catering on any changes in the dietary requirements for residents and reports any changes in residents' eating patterns to the Nurse/Carer Lead in the House.
  • Ensuring that the kitchenette is kept clean and tidy and running smoothly.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning jobs are completed within their span of duty.
  • Ensuring that cleaning tasks include washing the dishes, sweeping and washing the kitchen floors and the dining area after the residents have finished their meals.
  • Ensuring that the fridge is kept clean, free from spillages and is defrosted every week and that any food stuffs out of date are disposed of.
  • Ensuring that the cooker and microwave are kept clean.
  • Ensuring that all areas within the kitchenette and kitchenette storage areas is kept clean and tidy and well maintained.
  • To ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained, complying with local and national infection control guidelines.
  • Ensuring that equipment and surfaces that come into contact with food, e.g. chopping boards, sinks, storage containers, knives etc must be disinfected.
  • Ensuring that s/he is familiar with the Craddock House Policy on Food Safety and the associated House Rules and cleaning schedules and completes the relevant records.
  • Making sure that all cleaning cloths, tea towels, residents serviettes etc are laundered or replaced when needed.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning agents and chemicals are locked away and out of reach from residents who may have the propensity to walk into the kitchenette. The domestic laundry room in the House is kept locked when not in use and all detergents are safely locked away.
  • Ensuring that connecting door into the kitchen is kept closed at all times.
  • Ensuring that any other additional responsibilities as directed by the Director of Care and/or Person in Charge are carried out

Responsibilities:

  • To focus on a person centered approach whilst maintaining Craddock House's policies and procedures.
  • To respect privacy, dignity and to promote confidentiality within a warm homely setting.
