This is a leadership role within the Marsh Product Development & Engineering team (PDE) and is based in the MMC Innovation Centre in Dublin.
The role of the Principal Engineer is to lead the engineering team in the development of advanced, innovative, scalable, secure, and user-centric solutions that delight our business colleagues and customers. You will drive the technical direction of the software product to deliver to business needs and fully embrace and incorporate the use of AI tooling in the engineering process.
We are looking for candidates who have the aptitude, ability and willingness to experiment with and productionise new technologies to deliver software solutions that bring the best of what tech can offer to our business colleagues and users. Your leadership will ensure the products are built with best practices, focusing on security, performance, maintainability, and innovative AI integration
This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to lead and shape strategic technology capabilities for Marsh.
We will count on you to:
- Lead and inspire engineering teams: Manage and mentor a small team of experienced and AI-enabled full-stack engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role, where you will lead by example and show by doing.

- Your experience with large scale, complex, business critical globally deployed solutions. You bring real world experience of e.g. site reliability engineering (SRE) practices, etc
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a distributed environment, with an ability to form great working relationships across teams, locations, and time zones.
- Credible at all levels of the organisation: can communicate effectively at C-suite level, and with on-the ground engineers and development teams.
Why join our team:

Job Description
As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn't changed — we're here to stop breaches, and we've redefined modern security with the world's most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We're also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We're always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.
*About The Role:
Our mission is to make
all*
of our customers' security-relevant data continuously available for automated detection and response, threat hunting, and other Falcon use cases. To enable this, the systems behind NG-SIEM are growing to accommodate >100 PB of event and action data ingested every day, up to 10 years of retention, and dozens of millions of queries per hour across large sections of the data stored.
As our new Principal Engineer on the LogScale Search team you will be responsible for delivering this scale to customers by developing new features as well as improving existing functionality. You will own the technical vision and direction of our product. You will be joining a distributed team of highly collaborative engineers who share a strong passion for the product. In this role you will get a chance to work on hard engineering problems that do not have well-defined solutions. You will become one of the go-to experts of the LogScale, and will have a broad understanding of the entire LogScale architecture.
Please note; this role is open to candidates in the UK or Ireland (Remote) only.
*What You'll Do: *
- Evolve and apply the technical vision for getting to >100 PB/d of event and action log ingestion, while enabling greatly multiplied query intensity over this data set.
- Lead by example on customer and product focus, as well as on hands-on operational excellence.
- Deliver key parts of our systems directly as an individual contributor, or as part of a project-focused engineering team.
- Demonstrate promising approaches to problems or opportunities via proof of concept software, and then secure owner buy-in and funding; ensure teams stay on track during delivery.
- Move our product mission forward: partner with your peers to develop the NG-SIEM technical and product strategy and roadmap, and own the execution of that roadmap.
- Engage with principal engineers across CrowdStrike to ensure that we are coherent in our technical strategy across Falcon modules and across the CrowdStrike technical landscape.
- Your impact is not bounded and you will be enabled to engage and collaborate with various teams and ensure our product's success. You will work cross functionally with your peers in the product engineering organization as well as with field leaders in sales, customer success, and support.
- We are a remote first company so you must bring your excellent verbal and written communication skills to bear when you are working with teams across the globe. You'll also travel a few times every year to meet with teams and peers.
*What You'll Need: *
- 12+ years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining multiple software products/systems/releases, preferably in a SaaS delivery model, across all phases of the development lifecycle, and across multiple software stacks;
- 8+ years of experience as an engineer in a force-multiplying position (delivery through others);
- Current hands-on experience as an engineer (3+ years) owning a distributed system that handled tens of billions of requests per day or more than 1 PB of data per day;
- History of significant and continued impact on customer experience and business results;
- Demonstrated track record of operational excellence when operating services that span many components across several geographical regions;
- Experience working with and growing strong engineers within remote teams across geographies and cultures;
- Ability to communicate and articulate crisply at all levels from executive staff to individual contributors.
*Bonus Points: *
- Hands on development experience in Scala.
- Solid grounding in the technology of at least one cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Expertise with Kafka.
- Exposure to or experience with Log Management or cybersecurity products.
- Machine learning and data science familiarity and hands-on experience.
*Benefits Of Working At CrowdStrike: *
- Remote-friendly and flexible work culture
- Market leader in compensation and equity awards
- Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs
- Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge
- Paid parental and adoption leaves
- Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role
- Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to build connections
- Vibrant office culture with world class amenities
- Great Place to Work Certified across the globe
