ROLE PURPOSE
- To work with the Physiotherapy manager in co-ordinating and developing a quality patient centred physiotherapy service across the organisation and in their designated area.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Candidates must have:
- A Physiotherapy qualification validated by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy
- CORU registration
- Continued Professional Development Diary including evidence of reflective practice, In-service training, courses attended and Clinical Governance gained.
- Post graduate courses relevant to Acute Medical care in Physiotherapy
- 3 years relevant clinical experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
- Carry an inpatient clinical case load appropriate to the post.
- Participate in outpatient respiratory physiotherapy provision
- Be responsible for the patient assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are patient centred and in line with best practice.
- Communicate and work in co-operation with other team members in providing an integrated quality service taking the lead role as required.
- Document Patient records in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies
- Develop and promote professional standards of practice.
- Work within own scope of professional competencies in line with principles of best practice professional conduct and clinical governance.
- Operate within the scope of practice of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy.
- Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality.
- Adapt to changing workloads.
Administration
- Actively participate in the improvement and development of Physiotherapy services by liaising with the Physiotherapy Manager.
- Gather and analyse statistics and participate in audits as directed by the Manager.
- Carry out other duties appropriate to the post as required from time to time by the Physiotherapy Manager
Communication Skills
- Maintain documents according to the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic.
- Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions.
- Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care team.
- Recognise self-limitations and seek assistance.
- Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
Education
- To act as a mentor for Physiotherapy colleagues.
- To keep abreast of new developments in the Physiotherapy profession and identify opportunities to improve the service
- Maintain CPD relevant to area of speciality
Health and Safety
- Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures which includes ensuring equipment used on the service is maintained to the required standard and defects are reported to appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
- Implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice.
- Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others.
- Be aware of Risk Management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action.
- Report any adverse incidents or near misses.
- Adhere to department policies in relation to the Care and Safety of any equipment.

Role Purpose
The role and responsibility of Healthcare Assistant includes the following: to train, provide support and encourage service users to participate fully in their work, activation, training and education programmes.
The Healthcare Assistant is a member of the Day Services Department and will deliver care in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Team Members in the delivery of appropriate services to those attending Day Services, having due regard for their safety and the safety of others, both on and off the premises, including outdoor activities.
- Support service users in conjunction with Person Centred Planning (PCP) to set personal goals. Develop and carry out a plan to achieve these goals.Listen to their wishes and support them to advocate for themselves; while encouraging them to take responsibility for decisions in their day to day lives.
- Support the service user to carry out a swimming programme, which will include entering the pool.
- Act as a key worker for the service user. (A member of staff appointed to assist and support individuals to achieve their goals. The keyworker is the central point of contact for the individual and for families)
- Personal assistance for service users in the areas of personal needs including Intimate care.
- Work as part of a team in contributing to the design and further development of the Day Services Programme in line with New Directions.
- Have responsibility for running various aspects of the day programme and recording activities on the electronic information management system.
- Responsibility of the development of individualised programme of activity for a service user/s.
- Use a flexible approach to help meet service user's individual needs.
- Attend and participate creatively in team meetings.
- Maintaining record systems in accordance to Adult Services policies.
- Maintain a code of confidentiality and discretion in all dealings with service users, families and staff.
- Driving duties as required.
- Escort duties to transport service users to and from home each morning and evening as required.
- Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
- Obtained or near completion of a full Major FETAC Level 5 (or equivalent) award in a relevant Healthcare Qualification.

- To accompany residents to outside clinics, hospitals or other centres where they have been transferred for specialised treatment or care and to give a preliminary verbal report on returning to residence.

- To accept delegated responsibility for residents when requested as directed by the Manager/Social Care Worker or Nurse in Charge.
- To attend In-service Training Programme and lectures educating on the development of service users.
- Attend Fire Prevention and Emergency Training Sessions and become conversant with them and to implement fire orders as per letter of appointment.
- Observe strictly the Code of Confidentiality.
