Overview The primary responsibility of this position is to support / lead on the design, development and taking to market of medical devices for Cook Medical. Reporting to: Team Lead, Research and Development / Manager, Research and Development Responsibilities Perform Duties of Research & Development Engineer 2: Design development, prototyping, test method design, design evaluation, design reviews, design specifications, design verification and validation, design protocols and reports, transfer to production activities in a timely effective manner. Product testing and evaluation, completion of test reports to support design selection. Preparation and presentation of design reviews. Product risk analysis and risk management. Contribute towards process development during introduction /development of new equipment and production processes as required for any new manufacturing techniques. Source new materials components and equipment. Development of component specifications, inspection methods, bills of materials and manufacturing processes. Introduction of new equipment, materials and technologies. As required work closely with Key Opinion Leaders, physicians, product managers and team to develop innovative medical devices to improve patient care. Work closely with Project Lead and take responsibility for assigned research and development project tasks: Manage and drive assigned project tasks to ensure timely completion of project milestones. Work closely with cross functional groups to achieve project and company goals. Product performance evaluations. Contribute to innovation and creativity within team through filing of disclosures and patents. Hold regular project meetings and document minutes and actions. Ensure project milestones are achieved to meet business metrics. Communications: Regular communication to cross-functional teams and senior management. Project status communications and reporting. Remain on the forefront of emerging industry practices. Educating oneself in the medical area for which the new devices are being developed in order to have an appreciation for what needs to be achieved with these products. Support other cross functional groups to deliver company goals. Ensure that Cook's Code of Conduct is considered in all business matters carried out on Cook's behalf. Qualifications Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in engineering or a related field. Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience is desired. Project planning/execution skills. Execution of project in a timely effective manner. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Good mechanical design and understanding of engineering fundamentals with medical device materials knowledge. Statistical understanding and experience. Manufacturing design and process understanding. Good working knowledge of Solidworks and/or Pro Engineer CAD. Strong technical writer. Knowledge of relevant ISO, EU, FDA medical device standards regulations is required. Willingness and availability to travel on company business. About Cook Limerick Cook Medical has been in Limerick since 1996, starting out with labeling and distribution and steadily growing and evolving to include manufacturing, centralised customer support and on to collaborative product development in the Innovation Centre. The Ireland location is our European headquarters and houses our EMEA Support Centre. This location currently employs more than 1000 people and manufactures 10% of Cook's products for global markets. Research and Development in Limerick Our mission with R&D is to invent, manufacture, and deliver a unique portfolio of medical devices to the healthcare systems of the world. Our R&D team in Limerick is split into two divisions, Vascular and Medsurg. The R&D engineering teams are responsible for bringing a product from idea or concept all the way to market launch. The MedSurg R&D team in Limerick has two programs, Endoscopy/EndoSurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) that it is responsible for designing and developing new and innovative products for. The R&D engineers and scientists have the opportunity to explore and create novel ideas within feasibility, bring a medical device through verification and validation phase and be a part of bringing a new product to the market. The MedSurg R&D team works in collaboration with Cook's sister site in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Key job responsibilities
You will own the organisation strategy relative to the usage of ML, GenAI and propose the best technology to advance our ability to better detect, faster root cause ,and correlate to prior incidents to shorten customer facing AWS incidents. Your work will enable us to identify gaps in our current strategy, learnings from past incidents. You will contribute to shortening incident response through deep analysis and introduction of new technology.

Basic Qualifications
- Masters degree (or European advanced degree equivalent) or PhD in Computer Science, or related technical, math, economics, or scientific field
- Several years of relevant experience in developing large scale machine learning or deep learning models and/or systems in a production environment
- Experience in using Python, R or Matlab or other statistical/machine learning software language
- Several year experience specifically with deep learning (e.g., CNN, RNN, LSTM, etc.)
- Experience hiring or mentoring more junior colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, or related technical/scientific field
- Hands on experience building models with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, or similar
- Experience with machine learning, time series, NLP and CV solutions
- Proven communication skills, presentation skills, and attention to detail

The role of Associate Research Scientist is responsible for the regulatory and scientific conduct of development and stability projects in the Biopharmaceutical Laboratory. Performs troubleshooting across multiple assay formats, clients and cell lines. Calculates and interprets data and records data in adherence with PPD SOPs and any additional requirements specific to the lab and/or client.
**A day in the life:**
+ Independently performs analytical testing, method optimization/validation, and/or other speciality technologies studies OR method transfers for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems. Understands and conforms to methods, and protocols applicable to assigned tasks. Designs and completes experiments independently.
+ Reviews and critiques study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.
+ Prepares and reviews study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.
+ Communicates data and technical issues to clients on a weekly basis (or as needed).
+ Provides technical mentorship and training to staff.
+ Leads analytical (procedural and instrumental) troubleshooting sessions.
+ Assists in preparation and implementation of SOPs and quality systems.
+ Reviews, interprets, and analyses data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.
**Education and Experience**
+ Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Biochemistry
In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
+ Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years).

+ Knowledge of general chemistry, biochemistry techniques (Western Blot, total protein by BCA or micro BCA assay, ELISA, HPLC/UPLC)
+ Proven experience of method development of identity and purity assays by Western Blot.
+ Ideally experience in leading CMC studies for biopharmaceutical products including method validation
+ Proficiency on technical operating systems (including Image Lab software)
+ Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
+ Ability to independently perform root cause analysis for method investigations
+ Proven ability in technical writing skills
+ Time management and project management skills
+ Good written and oral communication skills
+ Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
+ Ability to train junior staff
