The post holder is responsible for managing the care of patients and the needs of their families, ensuring quality is maintained. The post holder is required to develop additional clinical skills specific to the area of critical care cardiothoracic nursing and to work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care to patients within St James's Hospital.

The role
The post holder is responsible for the daily operational function of the Intensive Care Units. This will include responsibility and co-ordination of clinical practice, professional practice, practice development, service development and clinical and professional leadership on a rostered shift and the management of all nursing and health care assistant staff, students and other allied staff rostered on duty during the Intensive Care Shift Leaders rostered shift.
The post holder will provide clinical supervision of staff and their practice on a daily basis and be responsibility for the implementation of formal clinical supervision structures for ongoing staff and service development.
The post holder will provide effective and efficient management of the Intensive Care Units during the rostered shift in such a way as to provide a safe and quality service for patients and staff while making the best use of time and resources
