**Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan**
Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name "Similac". To complement the range of "Similac" infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow-on formulae under the brand name of "Gain". The essential ingredient is liquid skim-milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.
Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland's reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.
**Primary Function I Goals / Objectives**
- The Food Safety Specialist has the responsibility for reviewing all SOP's for any job task he/she may carry out and ensure he/she fully understands and adheres to the SOP.
- The Food Safety Specialist provides guidance and direction of plant sanitation for manufacturing operations, warehouse and plant grounds.
- The purpose of the job is to implement food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance policies, procedures and training.
- This Job function will change where update procedures to GMP, EHS, Technical/ New Equipment, Quality Procedures & SOP's are made.
- This list of responsibilities may change depending on plant needs and employees are expected to be adaptable and flexible were this need arises.
**Major Responsibilities**
The role of the Food Safety Specialist is part of the site's success and compliance by:
- Driving and implementing holistic plant sanitation programs, policies and procedures for plant, warehouse and plant grounds; Assuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and all food safety policies and procedures
- Acting as sanitation support in the process of assessing and mitigating safety risk associated with construction and major maintenance.
- Collaborate/Coordinate with Facility Supervisor, Operations Leadership, Operations Associates and Site Cleaning staff to achieve desired Environmental Monitoring performance and Pest Control performance
- Evaluating facility sanitary conditions, assessing risk based on food safety and public health principles, prioritizing corrective actions, and verifying sanitation activities and validation testing
- Evaluating monthly environmental samples for monitoring of pathogenic organisms in plant, trending the results and developing corrective actions
- Conformance to master cleaning schedule and applicable cGMP guidelines, best practices and requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing all sanitation related training for sanitation and plant employees as needed;
- Ensures all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper
chemical storage, MSDS, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and procedures.
- Maintaining and writing detailed clean up procedures and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures for all plant equipment, driving towards reduced water and air usage.
**Education & Experience**
You will have BSc a in plant quality/food safety/Sanitation with a minimum of 3yrs experience in a similar role with demonstrated Leadership skills (direct or cross functionally leadership skills)
Certification as a Sanitarian and Pesticide Application is an advantage for this role
**Key Skills:**
- Understanding and application of microbiological principles with in depth food borne pathogen knowledge.
- Knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation principles and Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPC)
- Understanding of the appropriate wet cleaning and dry cleaning methodology.
- Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment.
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Project planning & execution experiences
- Process control knowledge
- Proven plant financial understanding
- Experience with working on Continuous Improvement Projects
- Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
**Accountability / Scope**
- The Food Safety Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Food Safety Manager. Position assists and with all phases of sanitation, pest control, microbiological and cleaning programs for the site. The decision-making process of this position is key to the ongoing compliance of the production operation, and to the quality and safety of the food products.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire engineering, preferably within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of Irish fire safety regulations, building codes, and relevant international standards.
Experience in fire safety design, risk assessment, and fire protection systems for a variety of building types, including commercial, residential, and industrial.
Proficiency in fire modelling software and tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative fire safety solutions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is an advantage.

Responsibilities On a day to basis you'll be involved in the following: Originating and checking PRD sizing calculations for Pressure Relief Valves, Bursting/Rupture Discs and Conservation & Breather Vents as per International Standards in API.
Specification for purchasing PRDs Generating Pressure Relief Philosophy documents.
Problem solving potentially complex process systems for pressure relief solution options.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced Process Engineers working on PRD calculations.
Qualifications We'd like to hear from candidates with: A degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.
Good interpersonal and communication skills essential.
Experience in Pressure Relief Device (PRD) sizing calculations in Pharma / Bio-Pharma / O&G sectors on Client side / EPC side Minimum 15 years' experience, with over 20 years preferred, in Pharmaceutical / Biopharmaceutical process design, preferably with an EPC firm working on PFDs, P&IDs, Equipment sizing and PRD calculations.
Self-motivated and self-driven Strong awareness of process safety engineering Design experience with clients from Europe and the USA is an advantage.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with the European Machinery Directive and other international safety standards while enabling efficient and reliable crane performance.
The position may include occasional business travel within Ireland and overseas, the duration and location being defined by the nature of the visit.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Liaise with the risk assessment team to interpret safety function requirements and identify safety generate Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), based on risk assessments and international standards (e.g., EN15011, EN ISO 13849, EN IEC 60204).
Support the electrical and software design engineers to translate safety requirements into practical electrical design solutions, including safety circuits, safety PLC logic and selection of appropriate components.
Review and validate safety related parts of the control system and carry out performance calculation using Sistema software application.
Generate safety function descriptions, verification reports and compliance checklists.
Provide support during functional testing, commissioning and validation of safety systems.
Assist in maintaining standard safety design templates and blocks for uses across various products.
Stay current with developments in machine safety standards, components and best practices.
Participate in internal design reviews and provide input on safety related aspects of the system design.
Liaise with technical documentation department to apply risk assessment outputs to instructions for use.
Other duties will evolve and arise from time to time.
Qualifications Requirements and Experience A recognised qualification in engineering in the fields of electrical, software or mechanical engineering, functional safety, or a related discipline.
Knowledge of European Machine Safety Directive or internation standards in safety related parts of control systems is desirable.
Third level qualification or suitable experience in health & safety or a related discipline is desirable.
Qualification as a Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) and/or Certified Expert in Functional Safety (CEFS) is an advantage.
5+ years' experience in a regulated industry, preferably in a design/manufacturing background.
Strong communicator and influencer with experience of communicating at all levels within an organisation.
Competent to coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to interpret safety requirements and specify risk reductions.
Lateral thinker to achieve optimum solutions that are compliant with regulation and aligned with business goals.
Excellent organisational skills Excellent IT skills Knowledge of Liebherr cranes or crane applications in general is a distinct advantage.
Provision of training to close knowledge gaps will be considered.
