**Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan**
Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name "Similac". To complement the range of "Similac" infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow-on formulae under the brand name of "Gain". The essential ingredient is liquid skim-milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.
Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. **Primary Function I Goals / Objectives**
- The Food Safety Specialist has the responsibility for reviewing all SOP's for any job task he/she may carry out and ensure he/she fully understands and adheres to the SOP.
- The Food Safety Specialist provides guidance and direction of plant sanitation for manufacturing operations, warehouse and plant grounds.
- The purpose of the job is to implement food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance policies, procedures and training.
- This Job function will change where update procedures to GMP, EHS, Technical/ New Equipment, Quality Procedures & SOP's are made.
- This list of responsibilities may change depending on plant needs and employees are expected to be adaptable and flexible were this need arises.
**Major Responsibilities**
The role of the Food Safety Specialist is part of the site's success and compliance by:
- Driving and implementing holistic plant sanitation programs, policies and procedures for plant, warehouse and plant grounds; Assuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and all food safety policies and procedures
- Acting as sanitation support in the process of assessing and mitigating safety risk associated with construction and major maintenance.
- Collaborate/Coordinate with Facility Supervisor, Operations Leadership, Operations Associates and Site Cleaning staff to achieve desired Environmental Monitoring performance and Pest Control performance
- Evaluating facility sanitary conditions, assessing risk based on food safety and public health principles, prioritizing corrective actions, and verifying sanitation activities and validation testing
- Evaluating monthly environmental samples for monitoring of pathogenic organisms in plant, trending the results and developing corrective actions
- Conformance to master cleaning schedule and applicable cGMP guidelines, best practices and requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing all sanitation related training for sanitation and plant employees as needed;
- Ensures all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper
chemical storage, MSDS, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and procedures.
- Maintaining and writing detailed clean up procedures and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures for all plant equipment, driving towards reduced water and air usage.
**Education & Experience**
You will have BSc a in plant quality/food safety/Sanitation with a minimum of 3yrs experience in a similar role with demonstrated Leadership skills (direct or cross functionally leadership skills)
Certification as a Sanitarian and Pesticide Application is an advantage for this role
**Key Skills:**
- Understanding and application of microbiological principles with in depth food borne pathogen knowledge.
- Knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation principles and Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPC)
- Understanding of the appropriate wet cleaning and dry cleaning methodology.
- Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment.
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Project planning & execution experiences
- Process control knowledge
- Proven plant financial understanding
- Experience with working on Continuous Improvement Projects
- Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
**Accountability / Scope**
- The Food Safety Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Food Safety Manager. Position assists and with all phases of sanitation, pest control, microbiological and cleaning programs for the site. The decision-making process of this position is key to the ongoing compliance of the production operation, and to the quality and safety of the food products.

The Role The HSEQ Officer will be based in our newly refurbished Ashbourne Office and will be required to cover work locations in the Greater Dublin Region. The ideal applicant will have relevant HSEQ experience in the Construction Industry. The duties of the HSEQ Officer include: Promote a Positive Health and Safety Environment & manage HSEQ administrative functions. Carry out Risk Assessments and prepare other Site HSEQ Documentation Responsible for maintaining Employee & Subcontractor Training Records & Training Register Carry out Induction & Training for new employees, subcontractors & visitors Ensure compliance with Irish Legislation, Regulations & Codes of Practice. Regulatory Preparation & delivery of Toolbox Talks & Safety Briefings Carry out internal HSEQ Audits Ensure compliance with and assist in the preparation of ISO & 45001 Audits as well as other External Audits Assist in Incident Management Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications Excellent knowledge of relevant Construction related HSEQ requirements. Recognised third level Health, Safety Qualification i.e., BSc in Health and Safety. Highly proficient with computers, IT systems and Microsoft Office. Excellent written & verbal English and have the communication skills and the ability to influence Safety performance. Understanding in Health & Safety Incident Investigation Ability to communicate with peers both written and verbal. Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role. HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR OWN VECHICLE AND A FULL CLEAN IRISH DRIVING LISENCE The Role will be based on sites located in Dublin - 2x sites The role will come under the supervision of the HSEQ Manager, who will be on site 1-2+ days each week to provide guidance to the successful candidate. The candidate will be a self-starter who has the drive, determination and capability to maintain and improve our Health and Safety systems. They will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating health and safety company standards, procedures and policies on site. The ideal candidate will have a recognized Health and Safety qualification and previous experience of coordinating Health and Safety in the Construction industry. Responsibilities include: Delivering Health & Safety induction programmes for new employees or sub-contractors working on site. Liaise with Site Managers to ensure compliance with current H&S statutory requirements and Company's procedures. Management of site H&S documentation, including site training records, machinery certification, and other statutory H&S records. Scanning/Filing of H&S weekly documentation Assist employees with SPA's, Permits, etc. Attend regular Health & Safety meetings. Assisting with continual improvement on existing Safe T Cert, ISO and 45001 certification. Ensuring sub-contractor safety statement's and required RAMS are available on site and review subcontractor statements and RAMS, assisting where required Advising & assisting site management in drafting and communicating RAMS, Safe Plans of Action (SPA) and Tool Box Talks. Provide advice, guidance and instruction in all health & safety matters to management, safety representatives and employees (including sub-contractors where appropriate). Conduct regular inspections and site audits, reporting findings to site and company management. Strict follow-up is required to ensure that corrective actions are dealt with immediately. Investigate, record and report accidents, incidents and near-misses promptly, ensuring any corrective actions are implemented without delay. Managing and making recommendations for Personal Protective Equipment required for all Employees Desirable Skills and experience of the Health and Safety Officer Hold a relevant Health & Safety Qualification/Degree. Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation, Standards and Best Practice * Willingness to show initiative and drive in addition to being a team player. Hold up to date Safe Pass, Manual Handling Due to the nature of the role and occasional travel to company sites, full driving license and vehicle is required Minimum 1 year + experience in a similar role within the construction sector. Must be IT Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Excellent command of English, written and spoken. Confident proactive and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative. Job Type: Full-time position (Mon - Thurs 7-3:30.
