DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting the Management & Construction Teams, you will be:
· To maintain close working relationship with the business teams to provide active assistance and advise to ensure the effective implementation of the Group Safety Management System.
· To participate in the appointment of competent persons to undertake key safety roles and work closely with managers and trainers to ensure their training needs are identified and provided.
· To ensure risk assessment processes and systems are established for ensuring production, approval, communication, implementation and monitoring
· To monitor for effectiveness, the procedures for the management of lifting operations, temporary works, inductions, fire and emergencies, permits and other bespoke procedures required for the safety execution of the works.
· To participate in setting up and maintaining safety committees.
· To ensure risks to third parties / other contractors are understood and actioned.
· To contribute ideas to the team for the continued developed of the Company wide Safety Management System.
· To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all health and safety matters relevant to the works and liaise with appropriate safety managers, safety organisations and trade associations.
· To ensure that accident and incident investigation is properly carried out to identify both immediate and underlying causes, actions to prevent recurrence and a robust defence of claims.
· To provide reports on health & safety performance to the relevant managers.
· Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within the construction industry community.
· Maintain professional and close working relationship with directors, contracts managers, project managers and site management teams.
· Promote Group health and safety abilities to staff and customers.

- Ensure strict adherence to site rules by all contractors.
- Assist site management to comply with statutory H&S requirements.
- Assist Health & Safety Manager to develop and implement Risk assessments and improvements to the Cairn Homes Safe Systems of Work.
- Assist Site management to ensure Contractor Compliance on Cairn Homes Sites.
- Assist H&S Manager and Site management to coordinate the safe systems of work for contractors.
- Enforce site specific disciplinary procedures.
- Carry out H&S auditing on site and address non-conformances as they are identified with site management and contractors.
- Contribute to accident and incident investigation.
- Contribute to the Tool Box talk topics, discussion and delivery.
- Identify training needs on site for Cairn personnel and the contractors.
The Candidate
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in in managing safety systems in construction is required, including a qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
- Member of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) preferred
- Able to manage Health and Safety on-site using their own initiative within the scope of the management system
- Strong relationship builder and ability to leverage key relationships across the full spectrum of project stakeholders and statutory bodies
- Ability to manage risk and implement control measures
- Able to work and build strong relationships with contractors from various backgrounds and trades
- Able to chair and deliver Health and Safety meetings and presentations
