This full time role is based in the Elm Mount Unit at St.
Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin, and offers the chance to join a highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and experienced Occupational Therapist to work in an acute mental health setting, leading on assessment and intervention, supervising staff, and developing the Occupational Therapy service within the unit.
You will have the support of well experienced Occupational Therapist's with a wealth of expertise across general adult and specialist mental health services.
Role Purpose The successful candidate will provide high-quality Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to service users within an acute mental health inpatient unit, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
You will contribute to service development, supervise staff, and ensure regulatory compliance, while benefiting from strong peer support and opportunities for CPD and career progression.
The Adult Occupational Therapy Service, provide services to the following clinical areas: Community Mental Health Teams Community Rehabilitation Teams Psychiatry of Later Life Teams Approved centre Psychiatry of later life service Approved centres - acute units Mental Health Intellectual Disability Eating Disorder Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive OT assessments and evidence-based interventions to adults in an acute mental health setting.
Be responsible for managing own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards Be responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated service area(s) by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale and team working in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager lead service planning by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users Supervise and support a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the OT service within the approved centre.
Promote quality by reviewing and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services, in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager and relevant others.
Develop and implement service / business plans, quality initiatives, audits etc.
and report on outcomes in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager.
Maintain service delivery in line with HSE standards, policies, and regulations.
Engage in service meetings, care planning, and multidisciplinary case discussions.
Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice within Ireland and in accordance with local guidelines Essential Requirements: BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist.
Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience as an OT.
Previous experience in mental health desirable.
HSE mandatory training completed (or willingness to complete before starting) Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills A collaborative, recovery-oriented, and person-centred approach.
Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to enable service users to regain and develop skills for daily living, recovery, and community integration.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist - Adult Mental Health Carry out comprehensive OT assessments of occupational performance, function, and recovery needs.
Plan and implement individualised treatment programmes using evidence-based, recovery-oriented approaches.
Facilitate bothindividual and group interventions(e.g., life skills, creative therapy, social skills, sensory regulation).
Support service users in developing skills forself-care, productivity, leisure, and community living.
Contribute todischarge planning, including community liaison, home assessments, and activity-based recovery planning.
Maintain high professional standards in documentation, confidentiality, and record keeping.
Provide specialist OT input to holistic treatment and recovery plans.
Work collaboratively with service users, families/carers, and external agencies to support recovery.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist - Adult Mental Health Bachelor/Masters degree in Occupational Therapy recognised by CORU.
CORU registration.
Experience (clinical placement or post-qualification) in mental health or related area.
Desirable: Post-qualification experience in adult mental health (acute in-patient or community).
Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice.
Training in group facilitation, sensory approaches, or cognitive remediation.
Experience in outcome measurement tools (e.g., MOHOST, COPM, OCAIRS).
