Main responsibilities:

The Data Centre Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The Shift Engineer maintains relationships with third party vendors. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

** This role will work on a 2-shift work pattern including night shifts.**

Requirements

  • Manage all SLA's towards customers 100% Uptime (Temp., Hum, power, PUE/WUE, relation).
  • Responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of planned maintenance, that meets all standards and procedures, by leveraging competent contractor/vendor resources with attention to quality.
  • Ensures that the Manager of Operations is fully informed and briefed on all planned and corrective work occurring in the datacenter.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical systems in use in the Datacenter environment including transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS & STS units, RPP units, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units
  • Strong communications, both written and verbal, in leading teams and coordinating with peers and other disciplines on driving projects/issues to closure.

You'll work with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure our assets deliver safe, efficient, and reliable performance—while contributing to innovation and continuous improvement.

Welcome to Onshore Operations
You'll be part of the Technical Operations team where you, together with your colleagues, will manage and optimise a growing portfolio of renewable assets. The team brings deep local expertise and collaborates closely with technical, commercial, and digital teams to drive smarter asset performance. As a team, we value collaboration, curiosity, and continuous learning.

You'll play an important role in:

  • managing a subset of our renewable asset portfolio, using engineering insight and operational data to maximise performance
  • analysing SCADA and BI dashboard data to identify trends, quantify commercial impact, and recommend improvements
  • collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless operations and contractual compliance
  • supporting predictive maintenance and process automation using AI and other digital tools
  • maintaining high standards in reporting, data integrity, and continuous improvement
  • contributing to the development of new capabilities as our portfolio expands to manage solar and battery energy storage across Ireland and the UK.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have a completed degree within engineering, or equivalent experience
  • are proficient in data analysis and visualisation tools such as Excel, SCADA, or BI dashboards
  • bring experience in renewable energy operations, asset management, or similar analytical roles
  • are structured, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong sense of ownership
  • hold a full, valid driving licence.

Bord Gáis Energy is currently commissioning two 100MW flexible gas fired Peaking Power Plants in Dublin and Athlone, and we're looking for an
Operations Engineer
to join the O&M Team This O&M Team will be responsible for the management of these assets on a 24/7 basis.

Location:
This
Operations Engineer
position can be based at either our
Dublin
Profile Park Peaking Plant or our
Athlone
Peaking Plant. However, flexibility will be needed to travel between our sites in Ireland.

In this role you will ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Peaking Plant assets through a focus on operational excellence and integrating 'Safety from the System' principles.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead by example in safety and quality, consistently demonstrating BGE values on site.
  • Collaborate across teams to build a strong safety and environmental culture, ensuring full compliance with regulations and licenses.
  • Manage the day-to-day interactions between the Peaking Plant O&M Team and the Operations Team in a separate Energy Management Centre that will remotely operate and monitor the Dublin and Athlone Peaking Power Plants and other energy assets in Ireland, UK, and Europe.
  • Manage and report operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and lead all operational event investigations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and reliability improvement projects.
  • Develop and own all operational and emergency response procedures. Act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), ensuring safe systems of work and managing permits.
  • Coordinate safety across systems and boundaries, including Eirgrid and GNI interfaces.

Here's who we're looking for:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and teams.
  • Experience in the operation of Energy Assets and SCADA control systems.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure, and cyber security concepts, as relevant to Industrial Control Systems and the interfaces with other plant systems and corporate networks would be advantageous.
  • Strong data analytical skills with experience on OSI PI Systems, Power BI and Excel.
  • Proven track record in the sourcing, combining, analysing and presentation of large datasets.
  • Experience in incident management and managing root cause investigations and tracking actions to completion.
  • Experience in the implementation of Safety Rules to deliver 'Safety from the System' at power generation assets (including acting as a Senior Authorised Person on mechanical and electrical systems).
  • Strong technical knowledge of equipment and process.

Our operation will be 24/7 therefore flexibility is required to support a 24/7 Operations function. You will also be required to be 'on call' outside of normal working hours, on a rostered basis.

Operations Support Engineer

The Operations Support Engineer
works within the Technology directorate responding to the management system team and Integrated System team.

Responsible for coordinating system installations and/or upgrades at customer sites, working collaboratively with suppliers and operators to actively resolve technical issues with all systems;

  • Responsible for addressing all service-related issues at operator sites, included (but not limited to) troubleshooting minor software problems, firmware upgrade, hardware troubleshooting, providing training to customers and new operations personnel;
  • Being accountable for the development, operation and maintenance of practices, processes and procedures as applicable to the Operations Team;
  • Developing and updating documentation covering all aspects of Operations Support to facilitate knowledge transfer and standardise operational support interfaces between service providers, operators and the organisation;
  • Ensuring the timely and prioritised management of incident faults relating to equipment and relevant back office systems through a managed service desk;
  • Support ongoing and new project initiatives being implemented by the organisation and Technology directorate;

The role will be based from the Dublin offices, but is a 'hands on' support role that requires frequent off-site visits to Service Providers and end-users premises. This will involve travel in and around Ireland, mainly focused but not limited to, the greater Dublin metropolitan area.

Full training in supporting the equipment and systems will be provided.

Desired Qualification and Training:

  • More than three years experience within similar technical service environments;
  • Hold a National Craft Certificate in any of the following; Electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and/or Automotive.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot issues within complex technical environments;
  • Demonstrable ability to fault-find and troubleshoot technical issue (e.g. electrical systems, work with technical manuals, specifications, drawings/diagrams);
  • Systems analysis and design experience, customer facing a benefit;
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
